“Hey.” Rude’s voice, bitter and biting, cuts through the black, then fades as fast as it came.

Reno takes a shallow breath and tries to bring his upside-down world back into focus as it careens violently to the left.

“Don’t die on me.”

Don’t be so dramatic, he wants to say, but the words don’t form. His mouth feels like it’s been stung by a thousand bees, puffy and swollen and hot.

He remembers a bright light—the sound of gunfire—and then…

A tilt and a whirl to the right this time; Reno’s stomach jams into his throat.

“Reno!” Rude’s voice is thick, not with its usual confident timbre, but something much more alarming: raw, honest-to-gods fear.

You don’t gotta shout. I’m right here. He has no idea if his brain turns the thought into sound before everything comes to an abrupt, stuttering stop.

According to that compilation post, Reno loves gossip, Rude is the only one that can sleep through his driving, and says Reno's name in his sleep sometimes. 😶‍🌫️

Still enjoying the mental image of Rude and Reno as Jaeger pilots. I think they'd look good in white drivesuits like Raleigh and Yancy wear at the beginning of Pacific Rim. They'd probably pilot a fairly light Jaeger - maybe not quite as light as Tacit Ronin, but probably lighter than Lady Danger. I can also easily picture Reno bantering with Tendo Choi. (And now that I think about it, you could easily put Tendo in the world of FF7 and he'd fit right in. Tendo and Zack Fair would get along like a house on fire.)
