A while back I mentioned I was planning to do some covers based on the original stage version of songs from Repo - so here’s the one I plan to do first!

CAN WE PLEASE APPRECIATE HOW PRETTY THIS VERSION OF LEGAL ASSASSIN IS PLEASE, IT’S ALL CELLO AND ACOUSTIC AND I’M IN LOVE WITH IT AAAAA

The uploader of this song mentions it’s from a CD, and this sounds like a clean studio recording - but I haven’t found any mention or evidence of this original CD anywhere else. If you have any info or even own one, please let me know! I will pay actual money to hear it.

I am certain this is the version that would have been performed in the stage version of Repo, since the lyrics here match up exactly with the libretto I have.

And more to the point, I am planning to do some videos on the history of Repo as a sort of casual documentary, as well as reconstructing and covering the original songs from recordings, the libretto and intuitive guesswork.

Day 17 of #28daysofblackcosplay is Blind Mag from Repo! The Genetic Opera. Yep, we’re revisiting the Opera again. When I first joined a shadow cast I was casted as a GENtern which I loved since I’m a dancer. But in truth, rewatching the movie as many times as I’ve had I at least once wanted to cosplay Blind Mag who grew to be my favorite character. And with the help of my shadow cast ATTK (Addicted to the Knife) it was possible. I got to play her in the show in 2 key scenes: The Geneco party (Mag’s Green dress) and Mag’s finale (Chromggia) getting to play the tragic singer with the bionic eyes was a lot of fun and a conquered goal. Maybe some day I’ll visit Mag again with a costume of my own making. As a Black cosplayer, I’ve long since realized that black cosplayers in the community don’t get there just dues and appreciation for the work they do. We are always called “variants” or “(insert character name) if they were black”. I think it’s time we break that negative stigma and show appreciation for cosplayers of color. FOUND IT! Repo 2002 Libretto

I found the webpage! Navigating an archived version of a defunct website through internal links alone is awkward work, but here we are.

I present the first half of the script for the original Repo! The Genetic Opera.

This was hard to find since it was only on the website between 2003 and 2004, so I had to find other webpages that had archived versions from this timeslot to get the link to it.

So I’m currently trawling the old website for Repo - since it’s no longer online, I’m using the Wayback Machine, and oh boy are there some treasures just out of reach.

But - I found the original source for some videos! So have a trailer, featuring a section of the song “Eye For An Eye”, which is clearly recognisable as what would eventually become “At The Opera Tonight”. (Interestingly, the version in this trailer is slightly different to the libretto in that Mag sings both the first two verses, whereas the script has Shilo singing the second verse.)

I’m still looking for the webpage that contains the first half of the original libretto! I’ll post a link when I find it!
