About verbatim copy-pasting without credit…

Okay, I recently commented on another post by @bauern how much restraint it takes not to put people on blast who blatantly copy and paste whole chunks of text off my blog (and not just mine) and then sell it as theirs on other platforms, but I just about had enough and won’t block out user names this time.

The latest one is on Reddit, but it’s happened on Twitter as well, and it’s just really, really not cool, people. The Sandman fandom is fairly small, and just because I mostly post on Tumblr doesn’t mean that I don’t see what’s going on elsewhere, even if I don’t have the same handle or don’t post there at all (although my Tumblr URL is on my Reddit profile, so it’s no secret over there).

This isn’t the first time this happens and I was quiet about it so far, but there’s a pervasive trend in fandom (not just this one) to take other people’s work without giving credit that just gets worse. Maybe take this an opportunity to think if what you’re doing is okay, because you’re not as anonymous as you think you are—neither on Twitter, nor Reddit, nor here. Especially if you post the same stuff on all three (you tried it on here as well).

And because there’s absolutely no contrition and you’re still doing it: @/fairy-lilith and your several alter egos (like @/katherine87, but that’s just the latest, rest in tags) here and on the other platforms, at this point I’m just assuming nothing you post on Reddit (as Daenys_Dreamer90) or Twitter (as lady_katara) is your original thought because you’ve taken text, gifs and images from at least five different accounts on Tumblr. All without credit. And despite having been called out by several people on Reddit repeatedly, you keep on doing it. Quickly changing your Tumblr handle in a panic after being called out and then proceeding to mine people’s posts so you can post text and ideas that aren’t yours on Twitter and Reddit isn’t the flex you think it is. You might think we’re dumb, but I’m afraid the only one coming across as dumb at this point is you because you post the same stuff from your accounts across platforms, which makes you rather easy to identify. You and your other accounts on here are now blocked. I recommend other people do the same… Not that it changes anything because you keep on mooching off people’s accounts regardless if they’re public. So maybe putting you on blast is what’s needed since you obviously still think what you’re doing is okay. People like you who are just in it for clout and karma-farming are honestly everything that’s wrong with fandom these days…

So, I mainly just want to vent about this, yet another situation where my gif is stolen and the person doesn't want to take accountability. (It's long af btw.)

I spotted this fics and what do you know. There is one of my gifs, (the bottom one) and no shoutout or tag for crediting me in sight.

and before I call people out, I do my due diligence and make sure I'm not tripping by comparing size, color and the content of the gif. Sometimes I even ask a friend to make sure I'm not seeing shit. I made a calling out comment and the reposter responded. This gif happens to be on my other blog stephendorff, which is where the conversation took place.

Exactly the-fucking-same. Same size, quality, same frame rate, same amount of frames, same coloring. Now I can believe that someone can have the same quality, same frame rate, the amount of frames in a gif by sheer coincidence, but the one thing I don't believe is getting the exact same fucking COLORING. Now here's a screen grab from the movie:

To any gif maker mutuals who have taken the time to read this rant, I'm sure that you've noticed how WARM that scene is. See, the way I see it, gifmakers have at least one thing that makes them stand out from others, and that is their Coloring. That is exactly how time and time again I'm able to tag gifmakers (even ones i'm not mutuals with!!) about posts that have stolen their gifs, because I recognize their work and most times it's because of their coloring.

And I know my fucking coloring. I don't like heavy warmth in my gifs and I suck it right out to the max, where sometimes my shit looks dull af, but that's how I like it. This user is not about to lie to me and say they made the gif they put in their fic on a website like ezgif and get the same exact result as I did in Photoshop. 🤬

I tried to recreate my gif, without coloring just to prove how the movie looks naturally without coloring, and it also brought up another point of contention for me:

The distance of where Jake is placed, is off. There is no fucking way they managed to get the same placement of Jake & close up that I did!! There is no fucking way!! I'm so exhausted by people lying and not doing the simplest thing by crediting!!! 😤🤬

Gif reposter signal boost !

I messaged this person @yoursicklilbaby cause they'd been reposting my Killing Eve gifs along with a lot of other popular Killing Eve gifmakers' gifs and Agatha All Along gifs making parallel gifsets all from stolen gifs, I asked them to please delete the posts, they replied telling me that they didn't know but they're a gifmaker too and didn't see anything wrong in reposting

Long story short they said they wouldn't delete the posts, I assume because they have hundreds and thousands of notes, but that they would replace my gifs if I wanted, I had no intention of making a public post about this but I didn't even have a chance to reply cause they blocked me, they didn't delete the posts either of course, this person seems to think reposting gifs isn't a big deal

All their top posts are reposted gifsets, unfortunately I'm unable to recognize the original gifmakers and tag them but it's so clear they're reposted given the difference in gif dimensions and coloring
