Can we please talk about this, I love it so much

I sit in my wheelchair like this all the time! Seeing ambulatory wheelchair users on TV is so unheard of! Yes I wish they'd used a disabled actress, but I'm also SO convinced with the addition of the k-tape on her arm at the end that the character has hEDS and we love to see representation T^T

2D being non-binary is fantastic. As someone who went by they/them for years before coming out as trans male to now being 10 months into transition & questioning whether I can re-adopt they/them alongside he/him... it makes me feel seen knowing I don't have to know myself 100% at any one point in my life.

All the love to 2D! Gorillaz has been a big part of my life since I was 11/12 so this really just makes me happy to know that my favourite thing is always gonna be open to change. They're part of my reason for being comfortable enough to come out in 2020... and they're my reason for feeling comfortable rediscovering parts of myself I thought I had to leave behind.

Jlb had the best opportunity to make atleast one of the three main characters in TGG to be a part of the lgbtq+ community canonically.

She has done representation through side characters before which is good but the point is we don't see their stories develop because the main characters have had first person pov. So tgg is one of the biggest missed opportunity in my eyes.

I personally would have loved to see atleast one queer love stories taking centre stage in TGG where we could see them develop

Another personal opinion (no one is obligated to agree please scroll if you don't agree) is that in GU instead of Hannah's pov (Which is literally the same in TSBAF I don't understand having the same content twice is two seperate books) we could have gotten Thea and Rebecca's story instead

Now I am well aware not everyone has to write a queer story but Jlb has done so before with her side characters (which shows she is capable of writing a queer story), so why not give a queer story to a main character a who has connections to main plot and play a vital role (aka representation that matters and not just for the sake of it)

All I am saying is no hate to the canon couples but yeah one of the pov characters could have easily been a part of lgbtq+ and their story would have been just as beautiful

This is no hate to anyone be it the fandom or Jlb herself. This is just my opinion. Please let me know if anything in the post sounds offensive, because that was not my intent (in my eyes the post is fine but I overthink alot and in the past I have not worded my opinions in the right way soo yeah just lmk instead of going to other people's blog as anons).

there's something to be said about how public unawareness about aspec identities contributes to the infighting within the aspec communities.

for example, I've seen a lot of "don't say ace people don't have sex because that's harmful to the sex favourable aces" and the opposite: "don't say ace people can have sex because what about the sex repulsed/averse?"

and they're both valid points, but because of it, aspec posts have to cater to the entire spectrum or risk starting arguments over this. Ideally, people could look at an aspec post and accept that it's for a different part of the aro/ace spectrum to where they are, but that's where the public unawareness comes in

because outside of the aspec communities, there's so little understanding of what the terms mean, that people within the community have to make every post generic so that the unaware won't see one post and make an assumption for the entire community based on it.

I see where every side is coming from, but infighting doesn't really solve any of the issues. The only thing that can start to solve it is more expansive aspec media representation, and spreading the "aro/ace identities are a spectrum" posts as much as possible to reach outside of the community, rather than trying to make specific posts fit that generic message.

Add on to the Alastor Aroace rant

I know Vizi said that you can have "respectful fun" with Alastor ships but there really is no way to "respectfully" ship a aroace character (unless it's queer platonic ig?) I know it's silly to expect a fandom not to ship especially with a character like Alastor but I thought more people would at least attempt to respect his sexuality.

Like I said before if it was any other character's sexuality being disrespected and disregarded people would throw a fit (rightfully so) I'm just sick one of the only aroace characters in the media is being erased by the fandom like this.

ADD ON: in my other post I talked about how people use the excuse when shipping Alastor that aroace is a spectrum while yes it is and that should be respected there are people on the spectrum that don't want any relationships or sexual acts and Alastor is our rep and it should be respected
