Rhomboid.
Not sure why I like these two so much, but I decided to draw them in the style of the reboot.
Found a neat rock while walking the dog.
Eclogite
This is a thin section of the eclogite, a very high-grade metamorphic rock that forms deep within Earth’s crust. For this reason, it is quite rare to find it on the surface. Red and rhomb shaped crystals are garnets whereas bluish/green minerals among them is omphacite, a rare mineral which forms at very high-pressure conditions.
This rock has characteristic red-green physical appearance making it quite a pretty outcrop. It is also very dense/heavy and for this very reason it is known to drive plate tectonics, bring the continents on our planet together.
Example from the hearth of the Himalaya, Tso Moriri.
The Schlitz Rhomboid
This publication came out in 1951 and was created as “a common meeting ground for the many thousands of people near and far whose efforts are associated with Schlitz.”
We are showing some selections from Volume 1, Number 1. The cover of which features a lovely winter scene (a view we are currently missing here in Wisconsin). The glossy pages and impressively modern design are exemplary of a business that had been 103 years without a change of ownership in 1951.
In today’s selection is an article that talks about the history of the brewery, including the men who founded and ran it: August Krug, August Uihlein, and Joseph Schlitz. There are also renderings of the buildings that housed the ever-growing operations in Milwaukee.
Unfortunately, we don’t have a full run of this publication but be assured that we will be sharing selections of what we do have with you. If you are able to visit the UWM Archives the publication is available to use in our reading room.
So, why the rhomboid?
The rhomboid is the shape of the first paper label which was applied to bottles of Schlitz beer back in the early days when paper labels were first used.
And so the rhomboid...inscribed with the signature of Joseph Schlitz...has been familiar to people all over the world for more than half a century. That is why we have chosen the name “The Schlitz Rhomboid” for the publication which with this issue makes its initial bow to our friends.
