The prelude to a modern dungeon RPG
Dear people of the RPG Maker domain.
How do we feel about the idea of using RPG Maker not for a video game, but for a show?
I was thinking it could be fun to make a Game System Isekai with actual video game graphics
Also, I feel like it kind of opens up possibilities for people who want to tell a story but are shit at making fun gameplay
(Guilty as charged)
You know when you're fixated on a task and you just can't figure out something so you just repeatedly get mad and stop then try again and repeat. Well I was making a blackjack game with JavaScript in RPG Maker MZ and to tell you how much trouble I had with following the UI part of the code... YESTERDAY something clicked and I totally understood it and was able to get it finished pretty smoothly. IT TOOK 2 YEARS TO CLICK. Why did my brain just randomly be like "ya boi I got this" just randomly yesterday wtf.
The two main characters for my next project: An old story set in the same universe as The Nian-Xi Chronicles...
Hey if you're interested in making RPGMaker Games...
... but find the cost prohibitive, especially if you've never done it before and just aren't sure if that sort of thing is for you...
The RPGMaker Engines are all on sale, the older ones at absurdly low prices but - and this is what you really need to know - RPGMaker MV, second to most recent, is 93% off right now.
RPGMAKER MV IS 5.59USD (taxes may vary) until FEB. 10, 2025 ON STEAM
POWERFUL enough for a developer SIMPLE enough for a child VERSATILE enough for any platform!RPG MAKER MV allows you to make the RPG of your
***NOTE: MV games, while originally Mac-friendly, got hamstringed by Apple and are really only good for PC and old Mac systems - check to see how old, I really don't remember.
If you're interested, the "latest and greatest" RPGMaker MZ is 55% off which is 35.99USD. As far as I know, MZ is still compatible with Mac.
You want to create an RPG, but every game making tool you have found was either too complex or too limited? RPG Maker MZ empowers you with s
DevLog 001
There is still much to be done, but I think I am on a good path. The video shows my progress of using the regular rpg maker assets to replicate what I want to happen within the combat runs. There are still a few errors, but I am already aware of how I can fix these bugs. Though I will try to work on commissions first and foremost.
I have a sketch for how the combat would go. You start a run that is very much inspired by that annoying Cookie run kingdom event. I believe it was called my cookie adventure. It's save to say I am honestly addicted to it so it was my first go to for inspiration.
What would make the combat special from other games like this is that it focuses on story-telling rather than combat gameplay. Each event is scripted separately and fixed. The only randomization occurring would be the DMG taken and given. I won't go further about explaining it in case it might involve spoilers. What I can say is... There are 3 different room types.
The enemy encounters, a resting area and special events.

As for what comes next- I want to make sure I can code an entire practice run. The combat comes second here though. And after I did this, I need to start using plugins to make the combat work. More information on that will be there soon :3
