So I just caught up on Protocol and I wanted to know what it was like for you to record all the stuff happening in Germany?
Like were you and the VAs for Heinrich und Klara in the booth with you or did you record separately and if so how many of the lines did you listen to to properly react to their tone. And did Alex translate the German bits for you to understand or did you go in without knowing what was said just like Alice? And how much nitpicking was there in terms of pronunciation for both you and the other VAs? While what was said is grammatically mostly correct and the pronunciation is good enough to understand it very well, I still noticed that the VAs weren't native speaker because I am one myself, so I was wondering who commented on the pronunciation of the cast.
If you ever decide to answer this I thank you in advance.
PS: I love the way you portray Alice, she's so great and a lot of that comes down to your performance.
I’ve actually wanted to talk about this for a while so why not now? 😅
Firstly, the actors weren’t in the room with me. I recorded with Robert (Heinrich) over Discord but never actually met Claudia (Klara)
Alex, of course, commented on pronunciation when something was said a bit wrong but, being English himself, may have missed some stuff.
However, the big thing is, I’m actually conversational in German. I’m not fluent but I understood everything that was being said first time of reading it. It was actually harder for me to act like I didn’t know what was being said.
Having to purposefully mispronounce entschuldigung killed me inside.
