I just love Jason Todd. His story arc — whether intentional or not — went from one of the most vilified DC characters to one of the most complex and interesting.
Now the controversial second Robin is having one of his best stories reissued for the first time since 2011.
Batman: Red Hood - The Lost Days by Judd Winick, Jeremy Haun and Pablo Raimondi tells the story of how Jason Todd dug his way back up from the dead to become the brutal vigilante, the Red Hood.
Seeing a golden opportunity when she finds the reborn Jason wandering the streets catatonic, Talia al Ghul restores his vitality in a Lazarus Pit, then hones his vengeful wrath into a righteous anger with anyone who harms the innocent.
Target: the Joker. For countless reasons, including killing Jason to begin with, The Joker must die. And for his refusal to put the mad clown down permanently after he took Jason's life, plus the countless murders The Joker has committed in the meantime, Batman must die as well.
This is one of my favorite Jason Todd stories of all time! A beautifully drawn tale of grief, revenge, redemption, love and forgiveness. Don't miss it!

Ok I’ve been reading some reverse robins au fics and tbh I think the fam is a lot healthier that way
think about it, when dick came along he was innocent and lighthearted and needed someone to keep him safe and protect him and a young inexperienced Bruce projected his own issues and insecurities onto teaching him his paranoid self sacrificing tendencies and trust issues and was extra hard on him the way he was with himself
then because of their horrible destructive relationship he took the opposite approach with Jason and gave him too much leeway and not enough training and supervision which lead to Jason’s death and Jason didn’t have dick around to mentor him because Bruce had ostracized him
then Tim who needed love and approval was neglected and pushed away by the person he most desired affection from because Bruce was broken after Jason’s death and dick made Tim constantly feel inadequate because he spent too much time thinking about Jason
then Damian came along and felt that he was never enough and was always compared to everyone else and none of his siblings except dick could see past his abrasive personality because they didn’t know how to connect with someone from his background
alternatively a young Damian comes to Bruce who doesn’t need protection, he needs someone to teach him empathy and hope in humanity even those who do bad things, just by virtue of existing he forces Bruce to become more positive and optimistic finding reasons to see the glass half full instead of half empty
Then little Tim comes around calm and nervous and vastly different than Damian and Bruce changes again, he learns to give more praise he finds things in common with this sweet little boy teaches him how to be a detective and use tech
After that Jason comes along, Bruce is experienced enough with trauma to help him and Damian helps him constructively channel his anger and Tim is there to teach him how to be more cautious and observant and safer
finally dick arrives and bruce sees himself reflected in this little boy and he gives him a family, they’re able to comfort him to teach him how to be careful and how to fight and they’re there with him to temper his grief and mentor him, Bruce knows not to push him too hard, Damian knows how to bond with siblings, Tim talks with him about the flying graysons and Jason helps him with English and shows him the beauty in the darkest parts of Gotham
oh jason.
lyrics from fireworks by mitski, which is my motivation to do basically anything. one night ill hear fireworks outside and ill listen to the memories as they cry, cry, cry, thank you very much.
the first panel I actually drew last and was debating on including, especially as it’s not the most visually interesting, but I think the lyric really contextualizes the rest of the piece. in my own little canon, jason does eventually rejoin the family because he loves them and they love him and idk they peacefully figure out the whole undead murderer thing because 🤷🏻♀️. batman does NOT throw a batarang at Jason, because that’s his son.
2nd panel is Jason after the death of his mother. The weird figures in the back are either mourners or cops or cps, some form of adult that remains faceless in his mind
3rd panel is Jason’s death. Not sure if I love it but what’s a girl gonna do. I need to stop using that as my only excuse.
4th panel is Jason’s confrontation with Bruce in the utrh movie. But with white hair? Idk. my version of canon my favorite fics plus some of the comics plus some of the movies, so if anything here doesn’t make any sense that’s why
yes there are 3 different art styles for the three different eras of Jason, no idk why. let’s just pretend it’s because Jason is three different people
get it? cause jaybin is always stuck in nightwing's shadow as he was the best robin
I propose a question to my fellow nerds:
Which of the following afterlife's would Jaybin go to?
Valhalla (Norse)
Elysium (Greek)
Fields of Aaru (Egyptian)
Heaven (Christian)
Olam Haba (Rabbinic Judaism)
Celestial Kingdom (LDS Christianity)
The Underworld (Roman)
Pure Land (Buddhist)
Svarga (Hindu)
Other (please elaborate, especially because I'm out of room here)
For the purposes of this poll, and because he's my favorite, we'll be treating Jaybin as the hero is was, meaning that we should assume he was given the highest honor in every afterlife.
Requirements for each afterlife according to limited/quick research under the cut
