imagine after seeing how they interact Lucia tells Karadec that he should pursue Morgan and then at the very end of the season after multiple instances of closeness he’s finally convinced himself that they could really be something and is about to confess his feelings to her when all of a sudden BAM Roman makes his grand entrance into the show and the season ends
The Romanticization of Roman: Or Why High Potential Fans Don't Care About Roman Anymore
So, I have seen some discussions around about Roman and the fans (me included) not caring about the case anymore and wanting it to be over as soon as possible because it's getting tiring and too dragged out. I have also seen a lot of discussions about the why this is happening. Has the situation been handled badly by the show? Does the case not make any sense? Have other fandoms disappointed us way too many times already? Or are the theories getting us too excited and the show is not delivering? Among others.
I agree with many of these and it might be a combination of all these and more so here's my take on it. I hope you enjoy!
My thoughts after the S2 finale of High Potential:
I love when Adam caresses Morgan’s cheek or rubs her shoulders. This slow burn is so delicious. I’m not worried about other love interests since it’s clear Morgadec is endgame.
I don’t like this reveal that Roman is a murderer. I would have rather found out he was dead tbh. I wonder who they’re going to cast in this role. Maybe Laz Alonso? He’s Afro-Latino and looks to be in the right age range
I know Willa is evil but I still want to see more scenes with her and Soto. They would never pursue it because of the show’s format but in my headcanon they’ve got a cat and mouse thing going on.
The reveal Lucia has been working with a con artist is wild. I thought it was a red herring and she’d be innocent but nope. Karadec looked so defeated omg.
Wagner’s dad is so evil for getting him stabbed, assuming he’s the one who put out the hit. It would be interesting if he did end up dying. He already got closure for his fiancées death and stood up to his dad so he’d die a hero.
I can’t wait for season three 😭
high potential and the roman problem
i binged rj decker the other day and they managed to do something in 9 episodes that high potential didn’t do in 2 seasons: move a damn plot point forward. then i realized this was an unfair comparison so then i pivoted to the mentalist, a show where we spend the entirely of it searching an unknown and unseen character and they did it better.
the issue with roman isn’t that we’ve spent 2 seasons looking for him, it’s the fact that it’s boring and the one person who’s truly motivated in looking for him, isn’t included. and that the show has tied the entire show to this one mystery and when all is revealed, they’ll be faced with the choice to end it or pivot drastically in order for the show to continue.
morgan isn’t as motivated to find roman as patrick was to find red john because she had to make peace with it because she had a child to take care of. she couldn’t be motivated by the need for answers because ava still had and needed her mother.
morgan was likely content to never find out because she had to learn to make peace with it even if she didn’t want to, her motivation is ava. ava wants to know and deserves answers, so morgan will find them because she cares but not as much as patrick did because he had nothing to lose but morgan does. however, since ava isn’t (and can’t) be included in the search, there’s a disconnect in the emotional investment of finding roman.
you rooted for patrick jane and stuck with him through 7 seasons because you shared and understood his feelings toward red john and watched him constantly struggle with letting it go for the sake of his life and the teams or continuing because his wife and daughter deserved justice. there was also the overlap of red john and the team, when patrick gets the call that teresa is taken by red john, you panic with him, you feel guilt with him when he finds her on that gurney with the smiley face on her and he realizes that this search could cost him her and the team. there is none of that with morgan.
and again the issue of tying so much of these characters and their plots together because of roman which means that again, the show has to pivot. morgan considers the team family and i believe she enjoys working on the cases so if they find roman, that means that she can stay because now they’re her family.
but they could go the way of the mentalist, lucifer, once upon a time, the nanny, etc. all those shows ended because the main characters got what they wanted:
patrick got revenge and married lisbon, lucifer healed and got to be with chloe, regina got her happy ending (it sucked but still), fran got with maxwell.
i’m just over this roman stuff and it’s literally because outside of ava, no one else cares so there’s no investment emotionally in this character or the idea of him from morgan so why should we as the audience care ?
I’d really like a High Potential episode where we get Ava and Ludo bonding.
Like I know she obviously wants to know more about Roman and I’m looking forward to seeing how her relationship develops with him once they actually find him, but for the longest time Ludo was practically her father, so I’d love to see them in a subplot.
I want to see them spend a day together, maybe an episode where Ludo is distracting Ava from being worried whilst Morgan is on a Roman centric case and they both reassure each other that even once Roman is found, things don’t have to change between them and Ava will still have Ludo in her life and that he loves her just as much as he does Elliot and Chloe.
also hate to say it but the Roman stuff has been making me groan for a few eps now. Like... It's not Red John level of importance enough to drag it out and it's not as enticing as Jamie Moriarty in Elementary so like ... I'm just .... Tired? Like. It's a disappearance/kidnapping of a old Love interest and a murder of an FBI Agent that may or may not be entangled w the core team but like .... Again. It's no Red John or Jamie Moriarty/ Irene Adler and so the dragging of this is kinda getting bad.
Like I had hopes. Willa Quinn had the potential to be a Jamie Moriarty but sadly the gravitas is not there.
Looks like High Potential's milking the Roman mystery like Castle milked Kate's mom's murder, so don't hold your breath for resolution any time soon , lol
