HIGH REPUBLIC APPRECIATION WEEK- DAY 2 | FOR LIGHT AND LIFE

To no one’s surprise Avar and Elzar are my fave Jedi, High Republic characters, and at this point probably favorite Star Wars characters ever. Honorable mentions to Reath, Silandra, and Gella though I love all three and also go crazy for the stuff they’re in. Silandra and Rooper are definitely my fave master/padawan duo but as I was working on the doodles I was listening to LotJ and started getting sad over Bell and Loden I MISS THEM TOGETHER ☹️!! Rooper also wins for fave interpretation of the Force, though Stellan is a close second.

The doodles of Gella, Silandra, and Reath are new, but the others are sketches/drawings I’ve been sitting on for awhile. The phase II ones are from when it was actively releasing that I know I haven’t posted here and thought I’d include 🕺

High Republic Week Day 4! i love love LOVE the ways the High Republic shows relationships, whether familial, platonic, romantic, or anything else. i especially love this with the Jedi characters, like Rooper Nitani with her friends Dass and Sky, who are able to really demonstrate that Jedi are not only allowed but encouraged to be compassionate and to forge strong relationships with others, and that the real doctrine of nonattachment comes when the Jedi must choose Life and Light over those they care for.

i also really want to shout out our first (? i think) queer-platonic relationship in Maz Kanata and Dexter Jettster in Phase II (and a little bit in Phase III!) and how that relationship, defined so beautifully during the Battle of Jedha, was at the emotional fulcrum of the whole comic run.

while i love and participate in shipping as much as any other alloromantic fan (i'm still not wholly convinced Rooper wasn't flirting back with Sky), i love that the High Republic gives us so many beautiful relationships of all kinds.

love that most of the time we spend with both silandra and rooper has them working primarily with non-jedi. love the idea that rooper subconsciously picked that up from silandra over the years so it just feels like second nature. of course she’d befriend dass and sky. it’s what silandra would do
