I scrolled this blog for a while and didn't see it, so I'm gonna request Nicrophorus Americanus, also known as the American Burying Beetle.

They're critically endangered, and also one of few beetle species that actually exibit parental behavior. I love them very much. :]

Today's creature is this rove beetle (unsure what specific type) that I found at work some time earlier this year (I have a lot of bug photos to catch up on). It spent quite some time creeping around the shed while I was there, and was very fun to watch.

Rove beetles raise and wiggle their abdomens when they feel threatened, in an attempt to look more intimidating. To me it seems cute, though.
