Slightly long weird not that great story thing with a bit of a horror-y-ish tone but with nothing horrific actually happening is contained under this read more
What if a character of yours stumbles across an opening into a deep secluded dark cave, and despite how treacherous entering it could be they have an insatiable desire to step inside.
After a little deliberation with themselves they enter, while the opening itself was fairly small in diameter the area they now find themselves in much more vast.
The stone that surrounding them is roughly, greebly and coated in a thin layer of moisture making it all look a little shiny.
But there is something even deeper, even shinier, shimmering far far away from the opening they had just entered across the vast rocky area in front of them.
They know it's a poor decision, they know it's an illogical choice. But something is compelling them, beckoning for them, telling them that they need to go deeper. So they do.
What they find at the far side of the cave is an entrance leading to a narrow passage covered in pins and streaks of that alluring shimmering light.
They will go deeper, they must.
The narrowness of the passageway makes it a little difficult to traverse through, requiring crouching, shimmying, and pushing to get through.
It's dark the place they find themselves in, pitch black not even the shimmering of the passageway visible.
Before panic can begin to set in once again they feel that strange urge and want to move forward. So they do, after all panicking in a dark cave sounds much less enjoyable than satisfying this strange urge.
Time seems to stretch and shift as they walk, seconds feeling like minutes minutes feeling tenfold as long, and then those in turn feeling like hours.
Then they stop their footsteps in the cool stone floor stopping with them. They take a deep breath letting their mind reacquaint itself with how the flow of time typically works before beginning to walk again.
Eventually they spot more shimmering light, they hurry over to it, unsure of weather they've circle around to the entrance or found another passage deeper into the cave.
Before they know it they're once again shimmying and slivering down zigzagy a passage way, which they feel is taking them further into the heart of the cave.
With one final push through a particular tight squeeze they are once again illuminated, though not by the outside world.
The room they've entered is coated or formed from some sort of metal, or crystal, or perhaps polished stone.
Every surface has that same shimmering shine they saw while delving deeper into this cave, yet there seems to be no light source to cause this eerie and alluring shimmering.
In the very centre is a geometric pillar which seems to hum and vibrate in an indescribable way.
Then silently amongst that indescribable hum a voice that is heard. It is not their own but it is in their mind, softly it and calmly is whispers a few words.
Then another voice begins to whisper, and another and another and yet more, till there are a thousand soft voices or one voice talking in a thousand different soft tones offering up compliments of all kinds.
"so brave of you to enter" "you're dressed impeccably" "you smile warms my metaphorical heart" "wow you're so cool" "if I wasn't an immobile stone pillar I'd high five you"
After a good few minutes the complements stop, the complimented adventurer is smiling their face red from slight embrassment at all the kind words.
They closes there eyes for a moment.
Wind is blowing birds are chirping and the air feels warmer. Opening their eyes back up shows the obvious, they're back outside the entrance to the cave.
"What a strange but ultimately positive experience that was" they remark nonchalantly.
So anyway yeah what if that happened to one or more of your characters wouldn't that be weird or what?
