So I’m starting to notice more and more people pointing out the flaws in how many RPGs weigh items, often putting weights on swords and other things that far outweigh the actual weight of those items.
I really have to wonder; is that weight increase in RPGs meant to reflect the size of the item as well? As in, how much more encumbered you are carrying a big sword or 50 feet of rope (both of which are given inaccurate weights most of the time), as opposed to carrying something small?
Games like Diablo, for example, actually have visual indicators for how large your inventory is, and how much room an item takes in that inventory. D&D doesn’t really have that, so increasing the weight of an item to sort of factor in the difficulty of carrying around a bunch of what would normally be lightweight items seems possible.
