I did the TC10k race this morning. I completed it in 1:05:52!!!
This beat my last year’s time by a whopping 13 minutes!
I am super proud of myself.
I’m still nearly 15 minutes slower than my best 10k race. lol. But that’s when I was young and healthy.
I ran my very first 10km race in 2010 when I was 33 years old. I did it in 1 hour and 8 minutes. I’m 15 years older, with stage 4 cancer and a broken neck so even beating that time is absolutely incredible for me. I never thought that would or could happen.
I’m so lucky to have such a supportive kid. They came to cheer me on. I was very hot. Hence, the tomato face.
There were over 9,000 people there!!! It was packed! We had about 9 waves!
I felt pretty good through the whole race. I had some lower back/pelvic pain at the start but that dissipated. I was able to run up the hills. I stopped only at aid stations and forced myself to drink water. Around the 9k mark, I stopped to walk for about a minute to drink some of my electrolyte. That was the longest break I had. I tried to stay slow and steady.
My neck was sore and the upper back and shoulders but it’s always sore. I took 1mg hydromorphone, 1 Celebrex and 1 extra strength Tylenol 90 minutes before the race and it seemed to help.
This past week I’ve been feeling extra exhausted. I was thinking there was no way I was going to PR today. Goes to show, we are often a lot stronger than we think we are. ☺️
