I wanted to anonymously submit this to @ozpin-defense-squad as a surprise but she has submissions disabled. So now she has to reblog it from me.
Jinn's Final Question
So a key thing I'm looking forward to is finding out how they'll use Jinn's last question and I thought of something.
Imagine, in Atlas, Yang and Jaune talking, I dunno what about but at some point Jaune brings up Pyrrha, and Yang remembers Raven mentioning people coming back from the dead.
She tells Jaune about this and he looks over to Jinn's lamp before picking it up and hesitantly calling her name...
"Jinn... is there a way to bring people back from the dead?"
Nora - Warrior, Sister, Friend.
So, this is going to be my first post about RWBY where I’m going to give my reading of Nora’s character and development throughout the series. It’s probably going to be garbage and I’ll regret it later, but fuck it, let’s start.
Nora Valkyrie is without a doubt one of the most beloved characters in RWBY, her spunky hyperactive personality can captivate anyone, as well as her capacity of reducing the biggest monster in Remnant to dust, and her boops that take anyone’s breath away. But for someone with such an upbeat personality, Nora has one of the darkest backstories in the show, which, when contrasted with her current history, makes her into one of the most amazing characters in the whole show.
In “Kuroyuri”, the tenth chapter of volume 4, we see Nora as a kid for the first time in one of my favorite moments of visual storytelling in anything.
This image tells so much about what her character has been through, the way she holds the bread shows that she’s famished, her dirty clothes show that she’s been surviving alone for quite a while. The design of the clothes also gives a lot to speculate on, the more western influence gives the ideia that she’s not from Kuroyuri, possibly not even from Mistral. Than another great scene gives something to speculate about what happened to her family.
The fact that Nora freezes when the Grimm attack shows that she went through something similar before that traumatized her to a great extent, most probably the death of her family. Here’s where we get into a lot of my speculation, I like to think that, given her real life cultural influences, Nora’s family where travellers who didn’t stay for long time in the kingdoms and prefer to wander through Remnant like the vikings but without all the pillaging and murder, Raven already has that part covered. To me that could also explain how a child would survive for so long on her own in such a dangerous world.
Seriously, congratulations to the CRWBY for informing so much about a character using mostly visual storytelling. It’s a rarity with so much stories that try to milk every aspect of their foundation, and it was done incredibly well here.
But to me what make Nora such a great character is not just her dark and tortured past, but the reading you get of the character when you analize her in the context of that past.
When it comes to her personality, having Ren at her side allowed Nora to be happy again, more than anything she could be a kid again. So Nora’s explosive, exagerated and childish attitude that we all love so much comes from her finally being able to reconnect with the childhood she lost with her family.
But there isn’t the risk of Nora becoming lost in an imaginary reality where she relives her child days because of the other side of the thunder goddess, the warrior side of Nora. With Nora as a warrior we have a courageous and fierce brawler who’s always ready for a fight, who relishes in combat and brings a big smile every time she’s charged up for battle and has the chance to fight monster the size of houses. .
And even then, she’s also kept from being a one dimensional brute who’s in love with violence thanks to her relationships with her friends and loved ones. Nora’s loyalty to the people she loves is to me her greatest attribute, that goes from her love and dedication to Ren in upholding their promise of keeping each other safe.
To she being ready to protect Ruby at the smallest suspicion that someone could be a threat to her.
To her more fraternal love towards Jaune, talking in a very calming and comforting manner when he doesn’t understand what’s happening to him.
And all those elements together gives us a powerful, lovable and caring warrior who’s ready to break the legs and everything else from the scariest beings in the world if it is to protect the people she loves.
Who’s also an overall very well rounded and layered character who’s not defined by only one aspect of her narrative and who’s every second of screentime is a delight.
Basicaly, Nora Valkyrie is the best.

So for who had the patience of reading all of this, this is my reading of Nora and the reasons why she’s my favorite character in RWBY. I did this mainly to train my writing, but also because though Nora has a lot of fans I don’t really see people talking about how well written a character she is, but then again the thing I see the most in this fandom is bullying from all sides so maybe that’s why, let’s hope a positive post makes a little difference.
There was some stuff I didn’t talk about, specially Nora’s relationship with Ren, but to me that’s something that deserves it’s own post.
For who read this, first of all thank you so much, and please tell me what you think, of Nora, of my garbage writing, give some hints of how I can get better. Thanks for reading and a good morning, afternoon or night to you.
Ruby: Jaune!
Jaune: Yeah?
Ruby: I’m gonna need your sandwich.
Jaune: Huh why?
Ruby: Because our child needs it! *has a large stomach*
Jaune: Ruby as amazing as that is, please get Zwei out of your corset....
Ruby: Gasp! How dare you not feed your pregnant Ruby!!
Yang: Honestly vomit-boy you knock up my sister, and don’t pamper her?! You disgust me Arc!
Weiss: Hmph, honestly if I bet your kid will just come to me, or Yang if their father won’t even feed their mother
Blake: Shame Jaune
Zwei: Bark! *looking at Jaune from out of Ruby’s top*
Jaune: Ugh fine I’ll make you all sandwichs if you stop!
Ruby: Oh Jaune you know just what to say *hugs*
Yang: Extra mustard for me!
Zwei: Bark!
Jaune: Yeah, yeah Zwei I know you love evenly cooked Roast Beef
You know, I was gonna keep put of this, but screw it.
If you don’t like Jaune, fine. If you don’t like the writing, whether it be for Jaune specifically or various other things, fine. It’s okay to not like something and to give criticism to the showrunners. You know what is NOT okay? Both assuming that one person in particular is the problem and bullying them for it. Miles in general gets the flack for EVERYTHING wrong in RWBY, even if hes probably the least involved among himself, Kerry, and Gray. Remember, when RWBY started his main job was as the showrunner for RVB and he still acts as a supervisor for Joe Niclosi’s run. His job ends at writing, voice work, and pre-production (that may be different with V5, but still). Doesn’t mean he’s blameless, like in the V4 commentary they confirmed that he wrote most of Blake’s plotline so any issues you had with it are most likely on him. That doesn’t mean he deserves to be hated, branded a sexist homophobic racist, and bullied about it like he has been.
But the biggest issue is people claiming he made Jaune as a ‘self insert’. One, NO HE DIDN’T. Sure he helped make the character, but he did NOT push for his larger role. Guess who did? Kerry and Monty. Want proof? Here is Kerry himself explaining it. All Miles does is voice the character. A character that he didn’t even initially choose to voice. Monty I believe asked him to audition for it. And yeah, Miles had to audition like everyone else did to get the role. Miles doesn't even write for Jaune. Why? Because people were utter assholes to him and accused him of making Jaune a self insert. You bullied and actually hurt an actual person who did absolutely nothing wrong. But you’re not going to blame Monty cause he could do no wrong, right? You’re not going to blame Kerry because he has a lesser social presence and will likely ignore it anyways. Miles is simply easy to target because hes the VA, a writer, and has an active social media presence.
It doesn;t matter what flaws RWBY has... okay yes it does. but non of them deserve the outright bullying that the showrunners get. You call it criticism, bu it isn;t. Criticism is when you see a problem and explain why it is a problem. But you do so in a civil, insightful way that may be insightful for the writers so that they can take it and do better, not a way to bring them down. Saying “I feel that Jaune has been given too much screentime and that that time can be used to better develop others” is not the same as “JAUNE IS HORRIBLE! HOW DARE YOU FORCE HIM ON US!” And even then... this argument is no longer relevant. Jaune got major focus in V5 in Chapters 11 and 12. That’s it. He had major parts in other episodes, but he didn’t get four focus episode sin a row like in Volume 1. This argument has been dead for a long time, get over it.
Miles has worked his damnest for RWBY, even while working on various other shows. Even when Monty died, he and all of CRWBY kept going. Even when people bullied him about Jaune, he still voiced him and wrote for the show. Even though him deciding to quit because the fandom treated him like shit would have been absolutely understandable. If the man didn’t want to do RWBY or voice Jaune, he wouldn’t. But he does, and he gives it his all. Even if the result isn’t always good, it’s better than never trying at all. And he does do good. His work as Jaune in V5 was one of the best voice performances among the cast by far. Miles is a good guy devoted to the series and to the fans. He deserves to be treated better than how he is. So do Kerry and the rest of CRWBY. Int he end, RWBY is a show and the people working on it are real people with actual feelings. And words do affect them, even if they at professional about it. Am I saying don’t critique them? No. It’s needed to make something better. What I am saying is remember that you’re posting about another person ho is only making a show. Show them some human decency.
Drawing prompt
I'd love to see artists in the fandom draw the girls of team RWBY but with appearances inspired by my AU.
Which would be Weiss' parents are Qrow and Willow.
Ruby's are Kali and Tai.
Blake's are Ghira and Summer.
Yang's are still the same but she was raised by Raven instead.
If any artist is interested in drawing these, tag me or something whenever you do!
