My thoughts on the RWBY Manga Adaptation

As you guys know, I’m a pretty big fan of RWBY. While I did start this series quite late, back in late 2018, it has quickly become one of my favourite shows of all time and one of my most active fandoms. As far as fan content goes, there’s never any shortage of this ranging from great fan art, fanfiction, comic fandubs and even a fan made RPG.

I also love manga and when I heard that Rooster Teeth were going to release a new manga based on RWBY, I was excited! One of my favourite shows being adapted into one of my favourite mediums? Sign me up!

I read some other RWBY manga before this, done by Shiro Miwa, and it was a fun read with very cool artwork.

Since January, I’ve been regularly reading this manga, this time done by Bunta Kinami. After reading all the current chapters so far, my opinion of this manga is................... it sucks.

I’m sorry, but as far as adaptations go, this was one of the most disappointing ones I’ve ever read. Sub-par artwork, needless cuts, very little in adding in anything new, a complete 180 of certain characters and it just doesn’t feel like RWBY anymore. All the charm, fun and spirit is just gone from this. It’s such a shame too, because it actually started out pretty good. I don’t know what the hell happened but Rooster Teeth dropped the ball with this one.

If RWBY prime was the MCU, this would be the Zack Snyder DCEU; trying to tell a more “serious” story while completely disregarding all the moments that made the original worthwhile. If you’re fan of RWBY, or a newcomer, I would not recommend this manga. I’d stick to the show.

This is the only Weiss cosplay I have that I did not actually make myself. My friend Lee made it for me as a gift and surprised me with it at Detour earlier this year.
