Christmas Movie Review: The Santa Class
The North Star Camp, where they train Santas - that's amazing; Kate isn't loving it as it's Christmas all the time and she was looking for something different. Started to make plans to follow a different road but the business manager left (to pasture of more money and notoriety) she didn't tell her dad that she wanted something else and stepped into that role for him. Fast forward 12 years and her dad retires and there's a second organization that trains Santas lead by that particular business manager. But Kate is not happen, she has lost all Christmas magic and love.
Then there's Dan, who loves everything Christmas and has his dream job... which he gets fired from for the Board to get a bigger bonuses. (I appreciate the commentary around business making decisions based on money alone. I hate decisions like that because the Board doesn't need more money. 🫤)
Dan runs to Kate's Santa training camp and wiggles his way into it. Let the snarky banter begin!!!!! These two are amazing together.
Then they find a man wandering in the road, dressed as Santa, so they try to help. The man doesn't remember anything, so Kate and Dan investigate and find reindeer and a flying sleigh. They decide to bring him back to Santa school, to help his memory.
The students are a eclectic bunch: grandmpa, woman, nomad, puppeteer, actor and of course the real Santa. (Not to mention that Paul Campbell is playing himself as the actor. It's funny because he and Kimberley Sustad are writing partners on the the Tree Men and... movies.)
Dan and Kate are fun, they want to be together and fight it for a while until it all bubbles over with a kiss. 😍 It's all perfect. Until Dan gets upset that she may be considering selling The North Star, unable to separate his blossoming feelings for her, from his love of Santa training.
Nick gets his memory back just in time to help the camp win the 'cup' - it doesn't matter that it was predictable with him popping up the chimney, it was still great. And he gifted Kate a whistle to use if she every needed help with Christmas. (Sequel perhaps?!)
Really fun movie, definitely in the top tier.
Fave Dialog Paul Campbell: Tell the Network I'm ready for the role. ... What do you mean they gave it to Andrew Walker?! (haaahaaahaaa)
There has to be other people that think Leo Mendel is hot!
Day 24
Reflections on: There’s Someone Inside Your House (2021)
Full disclosure: I mostly watched this because I know one of the actors in this - Ryan Beil, who plays Dave the creepy Uber driver.
I was pleasantly surprised how much corn is referenced in the film, which is set in “a proud corn town” in Nebraska (yet was filmed in Vancouver). The high school football team is the Cornhuskers, the finale takes place in a corn maze, and there are signs all around town that say “Corn in the USA”.
At one point one of the teens (played by Théodore Pellerin AKA Cody Bonar from On Becoming a God in Central Florida) takes his crush to a cornfield where she recites her secret poetry in the “ocean of corn”!
The murderer taunts his victims with photos of their *secrets* printed on full colour 8.5″ x 11″ pages. If they want to find out who the killer is they just need to go to the local Staples and find out who is constantly buying more printer ink cartridges!
This felt a bit like I Know What You Did Last Summer (1997) but a bit dumber which is FINE BY ME! I love dumb teen content!
Further full disclosure: before I finished this post I went to a comedy show on halloween. It was Ryan Beil’s show and he named me one of the costume contest winners. My costume was corn.
Praise the corn lord.
Anyone who watched Mech-X4 and watched Legends of tomorrow can tell if it’s Ryan Beil who played Leo on Mech-X4 as DJ S'More Money?!?!
It might be, with the wiki having it mislabeled as Ryan Bell, because he has a distinct voice, and how many times I have rewatched Mech-X4? (considering that I used to have a rat named after Mech-X4 Leo)
Hilarious actor and comedian Ryan Beil joins the co-ghosts to discuss pranks, xenomorphs, raccoons and fast food.
