PLOT SYNOPSIS:
After Quirin has been freed and Zhan Tiri absorbs her powers, Rapunzel loses her hair.
Everything seems well again, except that the rocks are still there and with Rapunzel's hair now gone, Varian doesn't know why they're still around. He still wants to get rid of the rocks so he seeks her in the hopes that with his father now free they can work on this together again. Rapunzel, however, is furious with him for the things he has done.
Varian decides to look into matters on his own. Zhan Tiri tells him of the Opal and Varian approaches Quirin about it, who is also still less than favorable of his son making deals with the warlock.
Feeling abandoned by everyone Varian packs up and decides to seek the moonstone out on his own.
Varian's faith in Zhan Tiri begins to shake when he finds that the moonstone is now tied to Cassandra and the disciples insist that the only way to obtain it is to slay her.
They try to egg Varian on as he's already been close to doing it once, but Varian is not on board with it. Sensing his resilience they try to gain Varian's cooperation by buying what they know to be his weakness: Quirin's wellbeing.
Varian feels stuck as he realizes that he cannot fight against Cassandra, because he still owes his life to her and decides to sabotage the mission. A hard task, given that Zhan Tiri is still in his head.
While Varian is dealing with his own demons, the other minions are beginning the assault on their own.
When push comes to shove Varian steps up to defend Cassandra. Very displeased with this Zhan Tiri orders for Varian to be taken out, using none other than Hector, who's all the while been lurking.
He sicks a mind-controlled Hector on them to finish the job. When Varian jumps back into action, Hector manages to regain control and sides with Cassandra and Varian to even out the odds and try to take Zhan Tiri down.
Disclaimer: It should go without saying, that any interaction between Varian and Cass in this video is platonic, but I’m going to say it anyway ;)
(I didn’t manage to post this before the start of the season, but at least I got to post it before the Mid-season hiatus /wipes brow.
I am SO glad to finally move on to other projects.)
