Sachlav

Sachlav is something in-between food and beverage: a thick, milk-based drink served hot and topped with pistachios, grated coconut and raisins. It is not unique to Israel – its roots lie in Turkey and it’s popular in numerous Middle Eastern countries today. After quite an adventure traversing down the narrow winding road amidst rain and mist to Altaf's Cafe, the warm comforting Sachlav is just the drink which we needed to soothe our frayed nerves . Ground bulbs of the purple orchid flower gives the floral starchy porridge consistency of this drink flavored with vanilla and cinnamon and topped with coconut shreds, almonds and cashews.
