April 29, 1922 The Five-Fifteen by E.C. Segar

[ID: John Sappo sits by himself on the train. /end] Sappo: I wonder why all the employees dislike the boss. He's not a bad scout if you know how to take him.

[ID: Sappo walks down the road, hands in his pockets. /end] Sappo: I'm going to buy a swell box of cigars for the boss and show him that I appreciate my job.

[ID: Sappo, now hatless, stands around in the office, holding a box of cigars. /end] Sappo: I'll take 'em in to him right now. This will prove that I think he's O.K.

[ID: Sappo struts across the hallway. /end] Sappo: Hello Boss, here's a--

[ID: The boss turns away from his flattop desk to glare at a startled Barney. /end] Boss: Say, you know better than to rush into my private office when it's busy.

[ID: Back at his own office, Sappo sits in a swivel chair and angrily smokes cigar after cigar. A cuspidor on the floor is surrounded by still-smoking cigar butts. /end]
