what do you think each of the kids' favorite and least favorite subject in school was?
Marco
Favorite: Math. This one's pretty well-supported in canon; he effortlessly rattles off mental math in #14, #17, #4, pretty much any time it comes up. Plus he's the team's go-to expert on human tech, and his dad's a NASA engineer, so we can see where he gets it from. I'm sure this changes once his stepmom's the one teaching him math, but he's got the head for it.
Least favorite: English, maybe? We see him bullshitting last-minute papers and not reading the book, so I'll vote English.
Rachel
Favorite: English, maybe? It's hard to tell because we don't see her reading for fun, but then no one on this team really does. But she has quotes from Sun Tsu and other famous writers on her bulletin board, and Cassie mentions in #4 that she's had that board going for years. And she knows what "hubris" and "expedient" mean. Plus, she compares herself to an ancient Greek hero in #37.
Least favorite: Gym, probably. Because she hates doing any kind of physical skill in public and mentions a few times how much she hates the shoes.
Tobias
Favorite: Art. Like Marco, it's hard to tell if he likes the subject, but he's definitely good at it; he gets ranked in a national contest in #33 and MM4 mentions he's crazy-good at mental visualization. And Jake does mention Tobias drawing all over his notes in #1, so it seems like it's probably something Tobias also does for fun.
Least favorite: Lunch. An educated guess from MM4, where he mentions that lunch is the time he's most in danger.
Ax
Favorite: Xenobiology. He's clearly fascinated by alien languages and histories, and he mentions that he's always wanted to see a lebtin javelin fish in a zoo somewhere (#12). He knows lots of trivia about venber and leerans, and always seems super curious every time they run into a new species.
Least favorite: Physics. This kid does not give a rat's ass about how z-space or morphing or Dome ships work, and he doesn't care who knows it.
Cassie
Favorite: Biology, probably. It's the only subject we ever see her attempt extra credit in, and the reasons for her interest are pretty obvious. She also values how useful biological knowledge is for medicine and ecology, even before she starts morphing.
Least favorite: History, I'm guessing. She has basically no context for much of MM3, and — unlike Tobias and Marco — doesn't have a sense of how things are supposed to be.
Jake
Favorite: History. That's canon, in everything from #36 (where he effortlessly identifies eras of warships) to #33 (where he mentions reading world leader biographies) to #10, #16, #17, #47, #53 (where he talks incessantly about the American Civil War). He also seems specifically fascinated by family history, between getting a whole ethnography from Cassie's grandmother to reading through all of Grandpa G's documents.
Least favorite: Anything STEM, probably. He relies on Marco for math and Ax for science, and doesn't seem to know even basic computer concepts despite being a webhead.
