I just cut a pineapple and I was really looking forward to eating it but it tastes weird, kinda like nail polish remover.
Nailpolish remover consists of acetone (CH3)2CO. During fermentation of fructose and glucose of fruits, ethanol C2H5OH is produced, which can be turned into acetone by oxidation and further chemical processes. So fruits naturally contain trace amounts of acetone. If it also smells alcoholic, then the fruit is off and already far fermented, which can result in the bad taste.
But it is also possible that some chemical residues of fertilizers, or chemical treatments for shipping and preservation to prevent mould or insects, were still left on the fruit and caused this taste.
The human body can handle small amounts of acetone as it is degraded in the liver, as we are confronted with it nearly daily, however bigger amounts can lead to headaches, skin and respiratory organ irriation if inhaled, nausea, unconsciousness and other effects. But I do not think that enough would be contained in the fruit, to really experience poisoning one would have to handle pure acetone like nailpolish remover.

Johnlock Love Letters #2006
1939. Soldier John Watson meets Sherlock in a bar for just one night. They continue their correspondence in letters. But will John make it through the war? WW2
Sherlock: John, imagine, with you’re military background and medical knowledge you’re the perfect assistant!
John: Sherlock, no, I’m in the middle of a tournament and my team needs me for this raid!
Sherlock: You said you’d call me before you raided the dragon’s temple... I wanted to watch you play. I thought we agreed... I have redbulls chilling in the fridge John...
John: *shoves at him* That’s not till tonight when HomelessAvocado84 is online! This is just a bandit stronghold, settle down. I’m not playing without you!
*Sounds of battle from game*
Sherlock: is that a pirate?
John: Sherlock! Will you please get off and go do your.. science
Sherlock: I’m not leaving without you! I need you!
Greg: Should I umm, wait in the car?
Sherlock: YES!
John: YES! TAKE HIM WITH YOU!
Sherlock: *moves closer* JOHN! JOHN you’re not realizing...
John: MOTHER OF GOD SHERLOCK!
Sherlock: How can you turn this down!? Look at this blue John, look at it! this is crystallized foot prints to the greatest drug lord of all time!
John: My knight is dying Sherlock..
*loud screaming*
John: make that my entire clan...
John: THAT’S IT GET OFF!
Sherlock: NO JOHN NO!! *they fall over* Wow you’re using the body wash I picked out for you...
John: YOU LUNATIC GET OFF ME!!!
Sherlock: AGREE TO BE MY ASSISTANT!
Greg: Yup, (Walks towards the door)
John: Sherlock, you drove Greg out! This looks so wrong get OFF!
Sherlock: I have a grip like a python John
Greg: *from the stairs* And on that note, I’ll be in the car...
John: *tries to shake him off* OFF!
Sherlock: NNOOO!!! *clings to leg*
John: Sherlock, are you FIVE!? this is embarrassing!
Sherlock: But, I NEED you! Anderson is INCOMPETENT, Donovan is stubborn and rude, no one will work with me anymore cause I make them look so stupid just by observing simple things.
John: *Frustrated sigh* I know, okay, I know.
Sherlock: If you don’t like the case after we solve it then I’ll never ask you again.
John: Promise?
Sherlock: YES! I promise.
John: Okay, trail basis, first. can you get off me now?
Sherlock: Yeah
Sherlock: trust me John, you won’t regret this!
John: Okay, I’m trusting you.
PREVIOUS / NEXT?
*** I actually made this the day I made the first part, but the tones were so different I wasn’t ever going to post it. However after all these weeks I’ve just decided that okay...
Since I accidentally destroyed their apartment I’m not sure what’s going to happen next or what I’ll do but, I do enjoy making these even if they’re wacky and weird AF. These are fun to make. ***
How are you dealing with the heat, Sherlock? Any helpful tips?
Although my extremities are usually colder than the average human's (which I never miss to demonstrate @consultjohnwatson by putting my cold hands on his skin because he jumps so funnily then) and I do tend to have more troubles with my thermoregulation during cold weather due to my lean build, the heatwave now troubles me as well.
I have two main techniques:
A. Sheet, nothing else. And also restricting movement to a minimum, as excessive movement turns into thermal energy, heating you up even further. So I mostly lounge around the couch and let John do any movement like fetching me my phone, or Rosie when he is not here or too stubborn and tedious to do my bidding (which significantly increases during heatwaves). I already trained her well, she is very good at playing fetch.
B. Turning nocturnal. As the heat is highest during the day, I just stay awake the whole night to work, and sleep over the day. Which I also applied tonight, and as the temperature is now rising to 28 degrees I am going to sleep now. Works perfectly well for me, as I do not have a job with fixed working hours and I am my own boss. Another advantage is that you avoid most people that way, because humans tend to be diurnal.
Of course otherwise the typical techniques of increasing fluid intake, applying water to skin trying to use thermal evaporation as an advantage, creating aircurrents to cool down the room, et cetera. I also sometimes use endothermal reactions to cool down the surroundings, like mixing ammonium thiocyanate and barium hydroxide octahydrate, although the cooling is limited to the immediate surroundings of the beaker. Or using liquid nitrogen which is more effective at cooling a whole room, although you have to be careful with the fumes as it can cause suffocation with the accumulating nitrogen if the room is not well ventilated.
Or I just go and lie down on a table at Bart's morgue.
Another anon tried to impersonate me. I thought you’d realize the difference, since someone of my caliber would never use the words “crunchy” or “mm” when there are far better adjectives and interjections.
So, I have not eaten the hair. It will go on a place of honor, where I can gaze upon it. Maybe it will be the muse to my revolutionary cloning technology. Though our world has not developed the formula, maybe I will be the first. I will use other humans to hone my art, and once it is perfected, I will use your John’s hair. After all, experiments often fail, and I would never waste his hair on a poor attempt.
Anyway, enjoy your night. I certainly will.
I did realise the difference and knew that it was someone else. As was my reply not as eloquent as usual.
However, you did not completely read my last message, as I already mentioned that cloning is not possible with one human hair.
Cloning is done by somatic cell transfer of a somatic cell of a bodie's living tissue like skin or muscle, and the nucleus of the cell is transfered into an oocyte devoid of nucleus. And this does not work with hair as hair is mostly dead cells thus no nucleus anymore, no viable DNA. It is not possible. Even if you try to develop a technique, it is unlikely to be possible. Well, I have an idea how it could work, but I for sure won't tell you.
So I will stay the only one with a John Watson.
Maybe you should kiss John, you know test how long he will last until he’s out of breath or something.
Would the physical strain of kissing lead to a quicker depletion of oxygen than simply holding one's breath without any activity? How could the oxygen depletion be comparable to other activities like physical movement? Does emotional strain also influence oxygen depletion, as hormones like adrenaline could influence oxygen requirement and respiration rate? That could be an interesting experiment.
Why did you put the eyes in the microwave? Cooking yourself a little meal?
It was for an experiment. Eyes contain vitreous fluid, and I wanted to test if the eyes would explode if heated up enough due to the fluid turning gaseous, pressure in the eye increasing until it ruptures. Just like an egg explodes when you microwave it.
I’ve examined the hair. I can see you’ve changed his old shampoo out with professional shampoo. A leave-in conditioner wouldn’t go amiss, but it is quite satisfactory.
Now that I’m finished, I think I’ll see what I can do with his DNA. Maybe I’ll clone him, have my own personal John. Then he wouldn’t be yours anymore because I’ll have him too.
I’ll have to deliberate the options, but that one does sound pleasing.
I doubt that you are intelligent enough nor have the resources for human cloning. Given the fact that no scientific institution has successfully cloned a human yet. And also the DNA of a hair would not be suitable for cloning, you would need several cells for somatic cell transfer, so living tissue would be better, meanwhile hair mostly consists of dead keratinized cells, and only a few living cells at the hair root, which still would not be enough. It's enough DNA to identify a person, but not enough still viable DNA to clone someone.
So go on, try it. Have fun in your little science fiction fantasy. Because that's all it is, fiction and fantasy.
