Štarekeǎgmǎt  n. anim.  In folklore, a spirit which lures travelers out into the open ocean, away from land, esp. during a storm. Literally, ‘one who carries it out to sea.’

The directional prefix šta- like many others has a dual purpose meaning. One is the general sense of from the open into a concealed or hidden place, while the other is out into the open sea (as opposed to out onto the water generally). Perhaps the connection here is something to do with the way one is concealed from the shoreline when they are far out in the water. This is supported by the fact that a speaker can never use a verb with this prefix in the first person (i.e. ‘I am going out to open sea, am going into a concealed place’).

Abbreviations key: COMP = complementizer

Managed to scribble up this guy’s robot mode today, so I can post him along with his altmode study sketch! (Kaman SH-2.)

His name is “Seasprite” - yes, that’s pretty much the actual helo’s name, but I liked it. It sounded TF enough! It might be a nickname he ended up taking up, if anything, based on his backstory.

Also wow it’s about time I posted some OC stuff. I know I started out with a lot of fan art stuff around here, but at some point I want to add original designs too!

This nerd ended up getting his alt mode from an aircraft carrier museum (Specifically, the USS Midway,) thinking it was an active duty warship at the time. (He was not yet briefed on How Things Work on this planet.) Shenanigans ensue!

Seasprite ends up keeping the SH-2 mode, and just chills part-time as a museum display as a disguise, befriending a few members of the volunteer crew who end up finding out the truth! (I had a story in mind for this which I should write sometime, if I can find the patience.)

He’s a super chill mech, who would rather just fly around and listen to the sounds of the ocean via his sonar buoys than fight anyone (he enjoys oceanography and is really interested in Earth’s marine life...!)

I could probably have him upgrade to a, SH-2G “Super Seasprite” at some point, but since these machines are no longer in service in the US either way, it wouldn’t exactly matter. At most - if he just paints himself the same grey as a UH-1Y, he could loosely pass as one, I doubt anyone (except avgeeks and some military folks) would even notice, ha!
