That's me around 1 year ago. I mostly was in a dark room with eardefenders, but I still had a sensory overload in this environment relatively often.
That's me today. Two lamps are on , light is coming through the window and I'm only wearing an in ear headphone on aone ear. And I'm absolutely not sensory overwhelmed
Thinking about that makes me happy and proud, but it also feels weird how I was one year ago.
All this stuff changed because I noticed that I caused myself to become much more severe sensory sensitive due to avoiding more sensory input than needed
Sensory sensitive tips #1
Do you avoid brushing your teeth because of the discomfort it causes? I have a couple suggestions
Does the minty flavor affect you? I personally struggle with super minty toothpastes, but fear not! First and foremost, you don't necessarily need toothpaste at all. The brush itself will do enough to dispel plaque. Secondly, and i know this is kinda obvious, try kid's flavors! These will be designed to be less overwhelming. Plus you can find preferred flavors to make the whole ordeal less stressful. If you prefer mint, just not to the intensity it has in other brands, try Biotène! Its still nice and minty, but tolerably so. Its also made to prevent canker sores, so if that's a problem, you kill two birds with one stone!
Does the brush affect you? Though its not an everyday solution, on especially bad days you can use a clean washcloth. But, seeing as this is not a long-term solution, you can try different brush types. I don't really know what exists, per say, but i have heard "soft bristle" brushes, so that is an option.
As with anything, please do your own research! I don't know everything, and everybody has individual issues that, in some cases, need to be managed on a personal basis!
Staying somewhere new? No worries I’ll find a way to watch Red Dwarf 😉
Honestly though I struggle with sleeping in new places so I need something that brings me comfort …and that is my blanket and RD!!
…I’m an adult I swear, I’m 26 honestly 😂
Oops sorry for the sudden Ben spam 😅
I’ve got an ear infection that is not only painful and making me feel crappy but is also making me slightly deaf and the stuffy sensation makes me want to either cry or rip my ear off. I just need soft Ben to come take care of me and watch crappy tv with me till I feel better 😥
If there is one thing I hate the most about Christmas, it's how LOUD my family is. Not only do we have to contend with the sheer amount of loud voices, they love having the TV on LOUD as well. And Cody and I are sensory sensitive (autism and bpd/mental illness) so being around my family is h e l l
