For the @polyshipweek prompts 'aro/ace' and 'meet the family' as well as @thedrabblecollective's day 22 prompt 'table', here's a McSpirk quintuple drabble for @septemberbells! The summary is also exactly 100 words so a drabble in its own right btw :D
All Cards On The Table
500 words, rated T, no warnings, POV Kirk
ft. aromantic Bones & ace spectrum Spock
Summary: How, Jim wonders as he sits across from Sarek and Amanda, just how does one phrase a situation like "the two of us are hooking up, but also I'm very much in love with him (the other him, aka Spock, your son) as well, and he's in love with us both but we're not sleeping together as often as I'm sleeping with him - the first him, Bones, who's not in love with either of us by the way but is still definitely a part of this thruple and loves us in his own way" in a way that's parent appropriate?
gd damn that's tough. don giovanni is my #1 but i have no clue how to rank the next four. maybe (in no particular order) rigoletto, carmen, st john the baptist, and marriage of figaro? but if you asked me on another day i might give you a totally different answer so don't take this as set in stone 😭
My most played song was Starlight by Muse! Went absolutely mad thinking about My Characters with it.........
11. Something you want to do again next year?
I answered this in a different ask but something else I'm hoping to do again is go to Italy lol. We went on a short trip this year, and I didn't get to do much that I was interested in. But we are trying to get citizenship so I hope I can go back and do more fun stuff!!
18. A memorable meal this year?
The first thing that comes to mind was a meal I ate in the aforementioned Italy trip lol. It was rabbit, which I don't think I've eaten before. And it was served really bizarrely imo, it was like..... kind of cold? And looked like a can of tuna?? It tasted alright I just found the temperature and presentation odd LMAO. We were there right when it opened and my brother also got it so it wasn't like it was cold by accident.
hey, how does the gift exchange treat do not wants (elements someone does not want to receive in a work?)
Hi! Apart from the ratings and warnings that you don't click, you can add Do Not Wants to the text in the 'description' form at the end of the request, just make sure you tell your giftee that it's things you do Not want and not additional requests. You can also add for example your tumblr url asking them to reach out for more information about prompts and dislikes, in that case please turn on anon asks so they can contact you without already revealing who they are!
When creating, if you are unsure whether something violates your giftee's Do Not Wants, please contact [email protected] and a mod will pass your questions along and make sure there are no misunderstandings!
If you are worried your sign-up description text is getting too long, you could also add a click for more (kind of like a readmore line on tumblr but with Ao3 html) like so:
<details><summary>YOUR HEADING </summary>YOUR TEXT </Details>
So for example
<details><summary>Do Not Wants </summary>no pregnancy, no kidfics, no character E, no on-screen violence</Details>
<details><summary>Story Ideas Fandom XY</summary>I'd love for character A to fall in love with character B while they're on vacation with character C in episode XYZ. Or any getting together story with meet-cute and lots of fluff really!</Details>
only 2 to choose from so im picking the one that wasn't metaphorically written one-handed lol. (link) it was ch2 of a friend's fic so it was fun to try to match their writing style in terms of pov swaps etc (where i tend to be one pov all the way thru), and also "fun" to deal with writing shauna shipman which is kind of like dealing with a completely untrained bite-risk dog whose favorite activity is doing whatever you most dont want her to do in that moment. melissa is a pleasure to have in class brain though at least comparatively. BUT. i think it turned out good and im proud of it :)
23. fics you wanted to write but didn’t
A LOT. UNFORTUNATELY. im including wips in this so top of the list is the miserable lottietrav ive had like. 85% done. since uhhh. MAY of this year.
second on the list is my amanda/elsie one (destiny) that i fear is going to snowball to be much longer than intended or wanted.
29. shortest fic you read this year
hmmm it has also been a bad year for me in terms of Reading but i think Eurydice by one of my friends. utterly miserable (positive)
for the anon who asked about folk ballads about dead activists along with hymns: joe hill, the ballad of sacco and vanzetti, my name is lisa kalvelage, and i will not be moved (listen to the version by rhiannon giddens)
For today's @duckprintspress May Trope Mayhem prompt, and for @septemberbells who prompted 'body swap' for Bering and Wells (Warehouse 13), another ficlet in my fake dating on an artifact hunt series!
I'm cross-posting this series to Ao3 with bonus material: more connecting scenes info about the artifact, and an epilogue. You can read it here: Fake Married in May! 10k words, rated T, no warnings apply.
3k shorts on tumblr: Part 1 - Part 2 - Part 3 - Part 4:
"...well, that explains why none of the whammied people came forward and explained what exactly happened to them," Myka muses, her voice sounding strange to her ears; "they probably thought we'd think they've gone insane."
"Or they thought they actually had gone insane." Through the Farnsworth, Myka's voice answers in Helena's British accent. "Well, I daresay we are on the right track to find this artifact!"
Nodding, Myka looks around the room, finding the book she had just put back on the shelf. She bags it, and the customary sparks fly, but apart from that nothing happens - she is still stuck in H.G.'s body.
"Helena? You're up - it must be a two part thing, and the second half is more likely to be something you touched."
"Lovely." Helena sighs. "That could be anything!"
"If the artifacts activate whenever someone new touches each half, it can be anything you touched since the last people got whammied - and from the scene I saw at the bakery this morning, that limits it to the afternoon at least."
"Something in this house, then. Well, I just have to go through everything in here."
Myka laughs at Helena's disgruntled tone, and them quickly quiets - her laugh sounds eery in Helena's voice, wrong somehow. "Well, I'll settle in to wait, or do you want help?"
After Helena assures her that she will be fine and Myka should go and secure the first part of the artifact, Myka-as-Helena goes 'home', awkwardly trying to walk like Helena does, and gladly hides indoors.
~
Having locked the artifact in their safe, Myka is at lose ends. She could go and find Helena, but while it might speed up the process of finding the artifact, it might also attract undue attention…
Sitting down, Myka curses when something digs into her backside - why does Helena have to keep her phone in her back pocket? That's the best way to get it stolen! Well, maybe not in the middle of nowhere in a suburb in Maine, but still.
Taking out the phone, Myka is surprised when it unlocks in her hands. Right, fingerprint activated… security measures never take possible artifact induced body swaps into account. Oh, it opened to Helena's photo gallery! Holy fuck, how many pictures did she take alone yesterday? Helena's seemingly incurable need to take a snapshot of anything she considers beautiful is turning her into some kind of data hoarder!
Scrolling incredulously through the hundreds of pictures of Kazul the iguana, the flowers on their front porch, and their breakfast spread, Myka is startled to see her own face a surprising number of times as well. She lingers on one of herself on their porch swing, smiling with her eyes closed, having fallen asleep with a book in her hands. It has definitely been taken to capture Myka, not anything else in the background. 'Beautiful things', indeed…
Myka feels a flutter in her chest. If Helena is secretly photographing her, does that mean…?
Before Myka can really contemplate whether her feelings for the other woman might be returned, there's a disorienting sensation and she suddenly finds herself in front of a moving box filled with books and journals, one of them in a plastic bag, she must have dropped it when she switched back into her own body.
"Well, that's that…" she feels a bit disappointed about having already found the artifact after a mere week of her and Helena's fake married life. On the other hand - maybe, if she can find the courage to ask Helena out, and if she is reading Helena's picture gallery correctly, she will be able to be with her for real?
