OK so here goes the first recipe! It's amazing how many steps making something as simple as scrambled eggs has. Please let me know if there's anything that could be improved/made clearer.
Ingredients:
You must have:
2 eggs
1 slice of any bread
You should have:
Approx. half a tablespoon of any Milk
A couple of pinches of salt (seasoning)
A couple of pinches/grinds of pepper (seasoning)
Spread (butter or similar – for the toast)
You could add:
Grated cheese - a handful
Other herbs and spices (I like to add paprika) - to taste but I'd say no more than a teaspoon (seasoning)
Any sauces, to serve (I generally have mine with tomato ketchup)
Equipment:
You must have:
Microwave (scrambled eggs can also be made in a pan on the hob, but this recipe is for microwave scrambled eggs since that’s what I make most often)
Toaster
Knife
Fork/whisk
Microwave-safe container
Plate/bowl (to serve)
Method:
1. Get out the eggs, milk, seasonings, cheese (if using), bread, knife, fork/whisk and microwave-safe container.
- You can get the other things out too, but these are the ones you’ll be using to start with
2. Make sure the toaster is at your preferred setting.
3. Put the toast in the toaster to toast.
4. Crack each egg into the container.
- To crack an egg, take the knife, and strike the long side of the egg firmly with the cutting edge of the knife. You may need to do this a couple of times.
- Once there is a crack in the egg, put your thumbs in the crack and pull it apart above the container.
- Tip the eggshells so that all the white and yolk comes out into the container.
- If there are any large bits of shell, you can remove them with a half of the eggshell or with a spoon. Tiny bits shouldn’t matter, so don’t worry too much.
5. Whisk the eggs with the fork or whisk until the yolk and white are all mixed together.
6. Add the milk, if using.
7. Whisk milk in until combined.
8. Add any seasonings, cheese etc.
9. Put in the microwave, on medium to high for one minute.
- (my microwave is usually on high and it only takes a minute for the eggs to cook)
10. If you have not done so already, get out the spread, plate/bowl and any sauces or toppings you're putting on after the eggs are cooked.
11. Put the toast on a plate when it pops up from the toaster.
12. Butter the toast.
13. Remove the eggs from the microwave to check.
14. Whisk together.
15. If all the egg is cooked, skip to step 19.
- If it is only a little liquid and combines OK with the cooked egg, this should be OK to eat. It’s up to you how cooked or sloppy you like your scrambled eggs, you can always put them back in the microwave for 10 second intervals if you’d prefer them a bit more done.
16. If there is still liquid egg in the container, put back in microwave for another thirty seconds.
17. Repeat steps 13 and 14.
18. If there is still liquid egg, keep microwaving for intervals of ten seconds until cooked.)
19. Tip egg onto the buttered toast.
20. Add any sauces you want.
21. Enjoy your scrambled eggs on toast!
Tips:
If your microwave is less powerful or you think it'll take you a little while to prepare the eggs, don't toast the bread until the eggs are in the microwave. In my experience the toast takes a bit longer than the eggs (and you have to butter it), which is why the recipe has it first.
Melt the butter and mix with the sugar and cinnamon
Heat a skillet on low heat. Then, coat both sides of the banana slice in the sugar mixture.
Place the banana slice in the skillet, flipping halfway through to caramelize on the sides of the banana. Each side took about a little less than a minute. Now, this is very much Baby’s First Sugar work, because I’m just really not confident in my dessert making skills. I tried to make this as simple as possible.
If you’re new to working with sugar, make sure the sugar doesn’t burn (you can see where my sugar burned), and keep the area ventilated. If it starts burning, make sure to cut the heat as fast as you can. And most importantly, don’t get the molten sugar on your skin.
Pour the leftover caramel stuff on your bananas.
I didn’t eat them hot because, ya know, molten sugar, but oh these are so good warm. They are sweet delicious. They would be great over ice cream.
Please excuse the photo quality in this post. I got a new camera and I’m trying to get used to it.
Difficulty: easy, 10 minutes, serves 1
Ingredients:
Required
Egg
1 tbsp oil
Optional
Anything you want in your omelette, tbh
Scramble 2 eggs in a bowl with a fork. I like to mix in some salt and pepper.
Heat up the oil in the pan. (If you are putting meat in your omelette, fry that up first and put it on the side.) Then pour your eggs in and let them cook.
Once the bottom has cooked a bit, push one side to the middle a bit, and tilt the excess runny part to the exposed pan so it can cook.
You’re supposed to fill the hole with all the egg but I’m bad at taking photos while doing that. Put all your stuff on top of your egg.... pancake (?). Let it cook for a minute.
Then, get under your egg and fold it over. Slide it onto a plate.
It’s a great base for a quick meal. I put cheese and green onion in mine, but you can put anything, really.
I love how they say bird egg, like there might be the slight chance that you might use a dinosaur egg.
Difficulty: Easy-ish, it’s easier if you’ve made fried rice before, 20-ish minutes, serves 1
Ingredients:
1 cup White Rice
1 green onion
1 egg
Salt
1/4 tsp. Crushed Red Pepper flakes, more or less depending on your spice level
1 tbsp soy sauce
1 tbsp rice wine vinegar
1/2 tsp sesame oil
oil for frying
Prepare your rice. I’m using a rice cooker, so wash your rice, measure the right amount of water, and set it to cook. Cool completely before using. Leftover rice also works for this.
Thinly slice up your green onion. Set aside. In a separate bowl, mix the soy sauce, rice wine vinegar, sesame oil, salt, and red pepper flakes.
In a pan, heat about a tablespoon of oil on medium low. Crack your egg in the pan, and cover. Cook until it’s done how you like it.
While that’s cooking, heat another tablespoon of oil in another pan. Put your rice and fry for about 1 minute. Mix in the soy sauce mixture, and stir. When everything is incoperated, turn off the heat and mix in the green onion.
Put rice into a bowl. Place fried egg on top. If you want to add a protein to your fried rice, you can. Just fry it up before adding rice. It’s a super filling breakfast that’s easy (enough) to make and tastes great.
