Hey everyone!!!

while chatting over at the @jumpingpuddlespodcast (with @sassycordy and @rodneymckays) we decided to throw a super spontaneous Stargate Universe celebration in honor of the show’s anniversary next month!

When? October 2nd - October 8

Where? Tumblr, Instagram, AO3, Twitter, or wherever else you like to celebrate online :)

What? All fanworks are welcome! Including but not limited to: fanfics, edits of any kind, fanart, gifs, analyses, incoherent rambling… all are welcome!

Why? To celebrate and appreciate SGU!

To get you started we came up with a prompt for each day:

October 7th: favorite episode

October 8th: found family

Feel free to do as many prompts as you like, but if you want to create something else outside these prompts nobody can (and will) stop you ;)

I'm a day late for sgu week day 1, women of sgu, but I couldn't let the week go without posting something for the ladies, so here are some memes I've been forgetting to post

It's SGU week!!

I discovered SGU last year (I watched SG-1 with my dad as a teen when it was airing, but we somehow never knew that SGU even existed until like 11 years after the fact???) and it pretty much instantly became my hyperfixation. I am BEYOND excited for this event, and I'd love to make some more friends who love the show as much as I do.

I mostly just make ridiculous meme comic things like this and share them in shitposting groups on Facebook, so I hope the remaining denizens of tumblr dot com enjoy my sense of "humor." Destiny's crew lives rent-free in my head, and sometimes, when I see a funny post or meme, I'll force my faves to reenact it for my amusement.

Today's prompt is "Women of SGU," and I assume this counts since Lisa and TJ are both women. 🧠 It is TJ's turn to use the community brain cell today.

I'm also hoping to draw something for today's prompt because I had an idea, but I am slow at drawing and am out of practice, so it might not go up until later this week. 😅

The Destiny came home five years ago today, but Rush can't bring himself to post on the survivors' Facebook group. Instead, he watches and thinks and regrets. Some musings on the nature of loneliness and letting yourself be left behind. (For SGU Week 2023) - - - Throughout the day, the anniversary messages trickle in, slowly at first, then piling on as more and more people cave to peer pressure. Rush grudgingly turns his laptop back on and leaves the page open in a tab, flitting between different documents and projects, pulled back to the Destiny group every time the browser alert pings in his ears.

Hope you’re all doing well, writes Young. No less, no more. Simple and direct. Rush respects that. There’s no need to call attention to the occasion.

I miss you guys so much! gushes Eli, along with a paragraph updating them all about his new job at a game company, and another year’s worth of empty invitations to get together at the next comics convention. Rush wants to be happy for his success, but there’s a bitter taste in his mouth.

So hear me out… I like Izzy Hands from Our Flag Means Death for the same reason I like Everett Young from Stargate Universe. Both of them have spent a lifetime contorting themselves in order to fit into the very small box they're required to adhere to if they want to be A Man.

And then they get to realise they don't have to Perform a specific set of behaviours or limit themselves in order to remain A Man. They don't need to rely on aggression or violence. They can be gentle. They can meet people halfway and they won't lose face; no one will think less of them.

They spend a lifetime thinking that what they have is the best they can hope for, and despite something being wrong they've never been able to put a name to it. But then it arrives and forcibly smacks them in the face: what they've been missing this whole time is community. Brotherhood. Family.

Izzy thinks he has all that as a member of Blackbeard's crew before Stede turns up. Young thinks he has it in the military before Destiny. And then they realise they didn't, because a family you have to Perform for isn't a family at all. They don't have to stay in the box anymore. They can be free.
