Dad AU
Part 1
-------------
She’s in a panic. Her mind is muddled with fear in every direction she turns, she always ends up back where she started.
“Father! Father help me!”
She screams with a trembling voice. Her call met only void as she runs further from the point she began again. Hoping she’d making it somewhere else.
“Father? Dad? Are you there? Please! I need you!”
Her eyes swelling with tears, staining her cheeks and her makeup running.
At last she sees the distant figure of her father. She eyes widen and she runs faster to catch him. He walks ever so calmly away from her. She holds her arm out to grab him. Her voice growing loud in an attempt to get his attention.
“Dad! Dad? Daddy Please wait! Dad stop! Come back! Can you hear me? Dad! DAD!”
Her clumsy, tired body collapses. Her body is drained of energy. She looks up to see her father’s stoic expression. His eyes dully look into hers.
“You are not my daughter. She’s right here.”
She sees a distorted version of herself. It grins at her with a vicious sneer in its eyes. Her father turns and walks towards the fake. She tried to get up, only to find that she’s sinking into the ground. She calls out to her father.
“Dad! No wait! That’s not me! That’s not me! Dad! Dad, please listen to me!”
She can only cry as she watches it stare her down and raise a gun to her father’s chest. It shot him down.
-------------------
She wakes up into a sitting position and looks around her. She’s covered in sweat. To calm herself down, she goes to the joint bathroom to splash water in her face. Then she takes a shower.
--------------
She walks down the stairs and into the kitchen. She sees her father. He made nods to her and speaks.
“I’ll be out for two weeks, stay safe and don’t forget to lock up before bed.”
“Whatever.”, she speaks coldly.
He turns to her and frowns.
“You look nice, is that a new haircut?”
He tries to smile, but he isn’t much of a smiler. He quickly gave up. She looks at him unimpressed.
“It’s a month old, took you long enough.”
He sighs and hugs her goodbye.
“Love you, my little apple blossom.”
“Hm...”
-----------
He wasn’t cut out to be a father, regardless he’s done the best he could. After all, a man racked with insecurities can only do so much. Sometimes he feels like he’s ruined the kind and cute baby he met all those years ago. He thinks maybe he really is a screw up?
He pulls up to his workplace.
“Shadow! I got your coffee.”
Shadow looks up at the G. U. N. main entrance, he sees Rouge waving him over.
-------------
They both sit in the briefing room, wait for assignment details. Rouge starts to fix her makeup.
“You know Shadow, I never asked why you never do jobs that take more than a month at most.”
“And I will never tell you why, so don’t ask.”
She rolls her eyes and continues to fix her makeup.
“Mysterious as always....”

BYE!
What is the silliest thing Rayla did and what was the first thing she did that made Runaan be soft?
When Rayla was just a tiny baby, she did what all babies do and grabbed whatever brushed her little hand. That often tended to be either Lain’s braid, or Runaan’s side tail. Lain would always pry the braid out of her fist and tickle her nose with its tip, but Runaan would just freeze up and decide that he had to hold still until she let go herself. So sometimes he’d be walking around with this infant in his arms, happily gnawing on his side tail and her fist at the same time, and he’d be wearing the softest, proudest smile.
I blame his constant interactive training for some of Rayla’s more daring ideas. When she was four, she decided that she needed to learn to do a handstand off Runaan’s horns.
And he let her. He was so proud once she could balance there that he’d walk around the village as if he weren’t wearing an elfing on his horns, and he was so serious about it that everyone else had to act as if he didn’t, too. I nearly burst a vein from trying not to laugh! It was utterly adorable!
Your reaction to Rayla dating is the most adorable thing you've done; I dont think we've ever seen you this flustered about something that's not Ethari! Remember, you and Ethari are a team right? So what if *you* didnt teach her about romance; it just means she's learned from both of her dads, not to mention she's probably taking after Tiadrin. If it makes u feel better, she's definitely not perfectly smooth; stuttering blushy Rayla is as adorable as it sounds. You did good Shadow Dad.
“Shadow Dad”?
I... I love it. Thank you.
Rayla’s as awkward at flirting as I was, then? I think that’s a good thing. It’s definitely a kind of relief. She’s got more than a little of my heart, but she’s finding love just like I did. There’s hope for us yet.
