These promo pics for 2x08 gave me some inspiration so I wrote a quick one shot (my first Malec one shot lol) I hope you guys enjoy it anyway
“Magnus?” came a little voice from behind as Magnus was just about to have a drink with Alec who smiled at him with a beautiful honest grin on his face.
A bit startled Magnus gracefully turned around to look down into Max’ face who was accompanied by his mother. Maryse had her hands on Max’ shoulders looking from him to Alec and to Magnus.
“Max!” Magnus said in excitement. “How do you feel about your first rune? I am sure you will be an amazing shadowhunter just like your brother.” Alec’s lips curled into a grin while he looked at Magnus who winked at him at this. It was their first appearance as a couple and he felt comfortable and proud.
“I sure hope so” Max beamed. “I also got you something…” he said as he showed Magnus what he was holding in his hands which he was hiding behind his back. It was a bottle of liquor which either Alec or Maryse had obviously bought that had a cute yellow bow on it.
“Just to thank you for throwing me this party” he added.
Magnus smiled in honor and bowed down so he was level with Max. He put a hand on his shoulder as he received the bottle from Max.
“You know,” he began “ that is really nice of you but you don’t have to thank me. I have to thank you you let me part of this great moment of yours! I am totally honored,actually.” Out of the corner of his eyes he could see how Alec was still proudly looking at him. Maryse,still standing behind her youngest, cleared her throat.
“Magnus, can I… can I have a quick word with you? Privately?” She glanced nervously from him to her older son who,too, suddenly stiffened and had a confused but nervous look on his face.
“Sure,Maryse” Magnus just answered handing Alec the bottle he had just gotten and slightly playfully rolling his eyes at him as he followed Maryse into a nearby room to assure him he doesn’t have to worry about what was about to come which eased Alec a bit. His gaze followed them until he saw the door of the room they entered in closing in it’s lock.
For a moment neither Magnus nor Maryse spoke a word. In the weirdness of this silent situation Magnus turned one of his rings around his finger.
“So, I think you didn’t order me in here just to admire my wallpapers,which by the way were a gift from Madonna in exchange for a warlock thing I did for her.”
Maryse closed her eyes and took a deep breath before she sternly looked at him saying “Magnus!” She crossed her arms in front of her chest. For a second she seemed to look for the right words before she said something that got Magnus completely off guard.
Confused he took a step closer to her. “Oh,that is just a little party,nothing to thank me for. Like I just told Max, I am honored to do this.”
But before he could say anything else, Maryse interrupted him by holding up her hand. “No,that is not what I mean right now.” Again, she took a deep breath.
“I meant to thank you for being there for Alec.”
As the words left her mouth, her face and her posture got less stiff. Magnus,still being a little confused,looked at her.
He felt himself being lost for words which didn’t happen often. He knew Alec’s mother didn’t like him at all ever since Alec had kissed him on his wedding in front of the entire institute and the clave. This was just not what she had in mind for her son,since being her oldest son he was in charge for saving the family’s name in the shadowhunter world.
“Maryse, I…I ..” he began but he was soon being interrupted by her again.
“You know I don’t approve of my son being with a warlock,” her look was again very stern as she looked Magnus directly into his eyes. “But I approve you as a person.”
Magnus still didn’t know what to say, he couldn’t get around why Maryse changed her mind all of a sudden, not that he would have minded if she hadn’t.
“I see how Alec has changed and how good you are for him. You make him smile and that is saying something about you” she said as her stern face slowly turned into a light grin and Magnus knew that she was being honest. He felt his eyes getting watery which hadn’t happen in a very long time as well.
“Alec would blow the very spot he is standing on to make something right” she continued and Magnus smiled because those were the words he had,too, said to Alec a while ago.
“So you mean a lot to him and that means a lot to me again.”
“Maryse, I know I can’t change who I am” Magnus finally said “But I will try and give my best in any way possible because your son means a lot to me and I haven’t felt like this in a while.”
A little smile was forming on Maryse’s face as she heard these words coming from Magnus.
“He deserves to be happy” she whispered.
“Yes, he does” Magnus replied with a similar smile plastered on his face.
Maryse nodded in approval before she put her hands on Magnus’ shoulders to lead him back out to join the party again.
As he saw his mother and his boyfriend smiling as they entered the group of partying people again, Alec was even more confused. Confused but at ease all of a sudden.
Magnus was approaching him again,grabbing his hips and greeting him with a passionate kiss which Alec happily replied. As he looked over Magnus’ shoulders, he saw his mother,engaged in conversation with some other party guests, looking over to his them and nodding in approval with a grin on her face.
And it was that moment right there that Alec realised how immensely lucky he was and how much he loved the high warlock of Brooklyn. His high warlock of Brooklyn.
