Week 3: The Dark Artifices

Wednesday:

1- Share your favorite moment of this series.

““He’s immortal?” Alec’s voice was colder than Kit had ever heard it. “I wish you’d told me before. I would have turned back time and found myself a nice mortal husband to grow old with.”

“Well, wouldn’t that be better?” Zara said. “Then you could get old and die at the same time.”

“At the same time?” Alec echoed. He had barely moved or raised his voice, but his rage seemed to fill the room. Even Zara was starting to look uneasy. “How would you suggest we arrange that? Jump off a cliff together when one of us started feeling sickly?”

“Maybe.” Zara looked sulky. “You have to agree the situation you’re in is a tragedy."

 Alec rose to his feet and in that moment was the famous Alec Lightwood Kit had heard about, the hero of past battles, the archer boy with deadly aim. “This is what I want and what I’ve chosen,” he said. “How dare you tell me it’s a tragedy? Magnus never pretended, he never tried to fool me into thinking it would be easy, but choosing Magnus is one of the easiest things I’ve ever done. We all have a lifetime, Zara, and none of us know how long or short it might be. Surely even you know that. I expect you mean to be rude and cruel, but I doubt you meant to sound stupid as well.” 

She flushed. “But if you die of old age and he lives forever—”

“Then he’ll be there for Max, and that makes both of us happy,” said Alec. “And I will be a uniquely lucky person, because there will be someone who always remembers me. Who will always love me. Magnus won’t always mourn, but until the end of time he will remember me and love me.” 

“What makes you so sure?” said Zara, but there was an edge of uncertainty in her voice.

“Because he’s three thousand times the human being you’ll ever be,” said Alec. “Now get out of here before I risk his life by waking him up so he can turn you into a garbage fire. Something that would match your personality.” 

“Oh!” said Zara. “So rude!” Kit thought it was more than rude. He thought Alec meant it. He kind of hoped Zara would stick around to test the theory."

2- Of all the non-main ships, which one is your favorite and why?

Malec Um, I’m counting Jemma, Kierarktina, and Gwyndia as the mains, so I guess my fave would have to be Kitty. They are just in the very beginning stages of their future relationship, but they are already very sweet and I like them a lot. I’m just worried because I know how much drama the couples in this series have to go through in order to be together. And I think that it will probably start in Queen of Air and Darkness. 

Edit: Haline would be my other favorite, they are wonderful, and I can't wait to see more of them in Queen of Air and Darkness.

Week 2: The Mortal Instruments

Wednesday:

1- Share your favorite moment of this series.

Alec’s entire existence. Please don’t make me choose I really can’t say one moment is my ultimate favorite, but here’s one of the moments I love the most-

“Even if it were just days, I would want to spend them all with you. Does that mean anything?” 

“Yes,” Magnus said. “It means that from now on we make every day matter.”

This line just makes me want to curl up into a ball and cry (in a good way)

2- Of all the non-main ships, which one is your favorite and why?

Non-main means outside of Clace, Malec and Sizzy, right? I’d have to say Haline. They’re just so sweet and supportive and when the Clave sent Helen to Wrangel Island I was so angry, like how dare they? Why does the Clave always have to ruin everything? They won! They saved the world! And then they gotta be vindictive short-sighted idiots and go back to ruining innocent people’s lives. Anyways, Haline is adorable, I’m so glad they got married and that they’re finally getting off that island. (and that I get to read about them falling in love in The Red Scrolls of Magic) And I hope Lazlo Balogh falls into a volcano.

(honorable mentions to Luke x Jocelyn and Bat x Maia, they’re pretty great too)

Week 3: The Dark Artifices

Tuesday:

1- Appreciation Day: An exclusive day on which you can talk about minor and underrated characters.

The Lightwood-Bane family. Every time any of them was mentioned or on page, it was just the best thing ever. Magnus and Alec are just so married, and everyone can see how much they love each other, even Kit, who had just met them, wondered why they weren’t getting married, and their children are the absolute cutest and how taken Kieran was with Max was just precious. And where would the main characters be without them? Alec was great as the temporary head of the London Institute, and getting rid of Evelyn really was for the best. Every interaction he had with the other characters was pure gold. And he’s going to be the best consul ever. Lord of Shadows proved just how hopeless Shadowhunters are without Magnus around to help them solve their problems. Idris needs better historians to give Magnus proper credit. Maybe Diego could do it. He did want to write a paper on Magnus. Diego needs more appreciation too. I really like him. I hope that he lives. 

2- Mention a character you would your day with, what would you do, where would you go?

Can I just babysit Max and Rafe for a day? Or babysit Max and Rafe for a day with Cristina? My Spanish is not great, and Cristina is really nice, so I think it could be fun to babysit them together. And maybe Tavvy too, so we can give Dru a break from babysitting.

Week 3: The Dark Artifices

Friday:

1- In your opinion, what is the most important message of this series?

How about, punishing an entire group based on the actions of a few is stupid, shortsighted and wrong, and will have terrible consequences? Also, Shadowhunters should read X-Men.

Or for a more hopeful one, no matter how terrible things are, there will always be good people fighting to make things better. Basically, what Clary said to Emma about heroes in City of Heavenly Fire.

I will probably be able to give a better answer once I’ve read Queen of Air and Darkness.

2- If you could read a book about one of the antagonists of this series, who would it be about?

Still don’t like stories with evil people as the protagonist, and although I’m perfectly capable of liking characters who were once good, but fell down the slippery slope of evil, Malcolm is not one of them, and a story about Annabel from before she died would just make me sad. I would read a story with all the characters taking turns insulting Zara, starting with Alec and Diana. That would be fun.
