Shield Bearer with the Ducal Arms of Saxony, honestone (ca. 1520) Hans Daucher (German, ca. 1485–1538) sculpted this sentinel to guard the entrance to Duke George the Bearded's funeral chapel at Meissen Cathedral, Saxony, Germany. Commissioned by the duke to display his family coat of arms, only this figure survived from the original pair, the other is lost. Evidence suggests the figure once wore lead or wooden wings. Loc.
