Today an angry customer made me cry. Which is something that hasn't happened in at least a year.
As a barista and SS I get yelled at a lot. Like, every day. And 99 out of 100 times I don't even blink at it. People suck and are entitled and seem to think that the second you punch in, you cease to be a person. If I didn't develop thick skin I wouldn't be able to do my job.
This is my reminder to people. To remember that the person making your coffee, ringing up your groceries, bringing you your lunch, is a person. Things go wrong, maybe you make a mistake, maybe they do. Maybe the espresso machine breaks down or the delivery truck gets in an accident. Just because something doesn't go the way you wanted does not mean you get to scream at or demean a worker.
Sometimes our skin isn't so thick. Sometimes we are having a bad day and you are the straw that breaks our back. Don't be mean to people just doing their job. Try to have compassion.
This has been a long rant. Thank you.
