[ARTICLE] SM Entertainment Reveals NCT Dream Will Be a Co-ed Group

On August 21, SM Entertainment revealed that their new NCT unit would be co-ed with seven boys and one girl. SM Rookie, Min Hyeri, is now Rory of NCT Dream! 

Rory was originally to debut in Red Velvet but was pulled out of the lineup due to her young age, and it seems like SM had a new place for her!

Rory’s the last member to be revealed, and now all we have left is the MV! Are you excited for NCT Dream?

January 23, 2014 "I'm so happy we're going to be debuting together," Sooyoung smiled, her and Hyeri's intertwined hands swinging in between them as they walked down the hall to the female trainee's practice room. Sooyoung sighed happily, "We'll have so much fun! It'll be you, me, the unnies, and Yeri-ah! We'll be the perfect little family." Hyeri giggled softly at Sooyoung's clear excitement before frowning, "Ah, unnie, don't you think I'm too young?"

Sooyoung looked puzzled, "Too young? For what?" She stopped them from walking any further, tugging the younger closer to the wall. Hyeri looked around awkwardly before staring down at her shuffling feet, detaching their hands and placing them behind her back, "I mean ... All of you are at least born in the 90s but I'm in the 2000s ... It's a huge age gap and--" Sooyoung interrupted her by scoffing, making Hyeri startle, "Hyeri-ah, just because you're younger doesn't mean you're less talented or less capable of being in Red Velvet!" Her face softened when she looked at how startled Hyeri was, "Look, I'm saying this because you're absolutely talented for a kid your age and you deserve to debut in Red Velvet. You deserve to be on that stage with us. Don't doubt yourself." Hyeri still looked unsure but nodded anyway, glancing away uncomfortably at the eye contact Sooyoung was trying to hold with her, "We should go before we're late to practice and get punished." Sooyoung reluctantly let Hyeri pull her to the practice room, knowing Hyeri still didn't believe her.

"Hey, Ri," Hyeri looked up from her notebook to see that Seungwan was smiling down at her, "What are you doing?" She scooted over slightly to Seungwan could sit next to her, which she did. Hyeri looked down at her journal, blinking before saying, "English." Seungwan laughed, "I see that, but why? Any special reason?" Hyeri shrugged, looking back down, "I just thought if I knew more languages-" "Then you'd be more capable of joining Red Velvet?" Seungwan finished for her, raising her eyebrows as Hyeri looked at her in shock. She smiled, "Sooyoung told me." At Hyeri's sigh, Seungwan wrapped her arm around her shoulder, pulling her closer, "Look, you don't need to learn English to be more capable. You're fine just the way you are." Hyeri sighed again, "It's not that, unnie, I mean-- it is kind of, but most of the world can speak English, right?" Seungwan nodded, so Hyeri continued, "Which means that if I learn English, I can communicate with international fans better. They'll like me more." "They'll like you whether or not you can speak English," Seungwan reassured her, squeezing her shoulder, "But if you really want to, I can help you with your English." Hyeri's eyes widened in surprise, sitting up straight and opening her mouth to speak but Seungwan quickly raised a finger, "But-" Hyeri deflated, knowing where this was going. "But, you have to promise you'll work on becoming more confident in your abilities. Trust me, Hyeri, you're a very talented girl and you deserve to debut. SM thinks so, too, so obviously that's the highest praise there is," Seungwan laughed, making Hyeri smile a bit. "But what if the public doesn't see it that way?" Hyeri asked, fiddling with her fingers. Seungwan sighed, "You know how Korea is. Very picky with what they like, and will be sure to tell you what they don't like. You've seen it with Girls' Generation, and other groups. And they'll be jealous, and lie. But the important part is that you don't let it get to you, because you know your own self worth and that you're very talented. So, please, work on it, and I'll help you with your English." Hyeri hesitated before smiling, nodding her head and Seungwan felt relieved. Seungwan tugged her closer, "Come here, maknae," and laughed at Hyeri's unusually loud shriek of protest, ignoring it and squeezing the younger girl tightly. "I love you, Hyeri." My First and Last Era!Rory

oh GOD

this was the WORST era for rory

actually second worst right after we go up but we'll get into that later

she absolutely hated it for one reason:

jaemin wasn't there

she was absolutely heartbroken when they told the group he had to go on hiatus for his herniated disc

they didn't show it on camera but her and jaemin were very close

he would always cheer her up

she just was not feeling this era

she talked probably even less than chewing gum

at least in chewing gum, jaemin would encourage her to speak up

the other members tried too, but it was always him who made her feel best

okay anyways .. besides the hurt and empty feeling she felt all this time

she grew an inch so she was happy abt that

her hair was platinum blonde! she got permission from her parents so

also even if they said no she was gonna do it anyway

umm 2 fansites opened up for her this era! 'WINTER WOLF' and 'SUGAR CREAM' !!

once again, red velvet and nct dream's promotions clashed again!!

when rookie won, joy gave a huge kiss on rory's cheeks and rory blushing was all over twitter

once again the fucking SKIRTS

this was especially bad because they had to get on the floor multiple times during the choreo

thank god for her safety shorts

actually most of the time though, luckily, she was in the back of the choreo

even though she was literally .. one of the dancers but anyway still grateful since she mostly wore skirts during this era

also she probably had the most almost wardrobe accidents this era

so many times there was a lot of wind and her skirt would almost blow up but either she'd notice or the other members would and would quickly cover her

that happens almost every era though but like it was bad because all they wore were their fucking uniforms to perform mfal

okay right

the fans loosened up more and liked her more than they did in chewing gum

it was clear to them that she was not leaving the group at all

so there were more hyeri stans <3

international fans and korean fans alike were angry at the fact that she had to wear a skirt while being on the floor

but sm never changed the choreo so :/

(dw it gets better now she never wears skirts or dresses whenever they have to get on the floor for choreos)

this era she gravitated more towards renjun and jeno

they were probably the closest to jaemin besides her before so she felt like she was still with jaemin while with them

thus making the nororen/hyeno/hyejun ships

one of nctzens favorite moment is when rory said she thought renjun's snaggletooth was cute and for him to never get it fixed to which he promptly began blushing

yeah she stayed quiet after that from surprise

oh during the mv

at the start she was walking with jeno and when he turned to look at the teacher, she was still talking and when she noticed he wasnt paying attention she hit him in the arm

the whole mv is just her being annoyed by the boys not paying attention to her and focusing on the teacher more

during her rap w/ mark(kinda) she follows and tugs on mark's arm for his attention but doesnt give it to her

when they run for the teacher's mug and almost drop it, she's the one who quickly grabs it from smashing on the floor

the camera pans to her with a disgusted look on her face

either from how the boys were acting or the fact that the teacher left her lipstick mark on it

oh during the car thing .. she's literally just shaking her head in disappointment but helps them anyway

when they get outside and she sees the boys' disappointment to the teacher having a child and husband .. she's literally just sitting there laughing

.. until she sees the husband's face and is shocked

and then the boys make fun of her

for dunk shot she's pretty much neutral on this song

but she does like that she got to wear either jeans or shorts for performing it :D

when renjun throws the ball and like then haechan is supposed to catch it,,

okay so the concert started with the vcr/video from the dream show ..

rory's little scene was her as a teacher !!! so cute

OOH and then the transition into her into her teacher clothes into a suit .. thats my girl

her hair is still like this. much more vibrant than it was because she redyed it oops

first song was GO!! change ur ways

she was wearing this [ black cargo pants, a black crop top, belt, along with chains lmao idk how to describe. oh and black boots ] for go, drippin', we go up, and stronger performances!

it was kind of awkward at first but then she saw nctzens' faces so she was happy

"to the world, this is the nct! we are nct dream”

she clapped excitedly, jumping up and down

"beyond the dream show~"

when haechan asked the time where the fans were, she read the comments, squinting funnily at the screen before gasping

"one of the czennies said it was 3am!"

the other boys gasped in shock before clapping slightly

"thank you for watching us even though it's 3am!" rory said to the fans. "but go to bed as soon as this is over~ or whenever you're feeling tired, that's okay too!"

"for our global fans, we prepared something special, right?" haechan said and rory nodded, smiling

"so we prepared our greeting in various languages"

rory's greeting was in french! fans went crazy bc she sounded SO good and her pronounciation was good too

after that she says, "renjun took english from me" in english and playfully glared at the older boy who laughed.

she turned to the fans and said, "but um, wendy-unnie taught me that so .. if it sounds bad it's all her fault." she claps as the other boys laugh

when they were talking about how they felt, rory said "i watched superm and wayv's concerts so i was excited because i knew we'd hear from the fans just like they were here with us in person. they were really loud, too" and laughs

when renjun told them to scream, she hit him lightly and said "yah, don't you remember what i just said? some fans it's 3am there!"

"oh dont scream then," renjun laughed, making her laugh before she went back to waving at the fans as they waved their lightsticks

when the fans appeared behind them, her eyes widened and she immediately ran to the screen, waving in all directions

she noticed when she got close to a fan's screen, they'd start waving their hand/lighstick even harder and it made her laugh

"rory, come back!" jaemin laughed, tugging her with him back to where the other 5 were

"wow, pretty grass" rory mocked mark as she stared at the lightsticks where the audience were supposed to be and on the screens

haechan had to hide a laugh

then there was we go up performance

she was in a school uniform standing in between jeno and jaemin

"you guys suck," rory laughed, watching the boys try to succeed

when renjun comes over and succeeds in under one minute and one hand, she gasped in shock lightly before watching him walk away coolly and put his head back down on the desk

jaemin nudged her as she laughed, "you guys are just losers!"

and then it ends on her walking over to renjun and bending down to face him and tapping him on the shoulder

he jumps from how close she is and she laughs, grinning at him, "that was cool" before going back over to the boys and he watches her

she gets hit in the head by the basketball(she's after chenle) and luckily saves it before it falls to the ground and throws it towards the basket, renjun jumping up to hit it in

why is she always getting hit in the head rip rory's head

next performance is dunk shot!!!

she hated the outfits tho jfc

she was wearing white loose shorts that ended midthigh and a pink button up over a white t-shirt

yeah super plain im so sorry rory that the stylists did you dirty like that

she hyped up jisung so loud during his solo dance

and had a huge ass smile on her face during it

she was in the middle of renjun and chenle at the bottom

"i think chenle changed the most" rory laughed, talking about the difference from now and almost four years ago when they debuted

"you changed a lot, too" chenle poked her and she huffed out a laugh, choosing not to respond to him and shook her head

when it was time for the interactions, she had to hide her wince because since she watched wayv and superm's, she was worried about how it would go because some fans' wifi connections were bad(so were sm's but anyways--)

oh luckily the first fan spoke korean !!

"hi!" she waved excitedly at the fan

when the fan said her name, she quietly repeated it to herself but it was still heard from the mic

"there's a song called 7 days in your album. what do you guys mean to each other?"

rory's mouth went dry at that question as she rubbed her hands together, looking at the boys silently as they ahhed and oohed

she smiled slightly as she saw how big their smiles got at the question

chenle said that the members were his family. they're literally siblings

she laughed at that

hyuck said that the members were apart of himself and that he grew up with all of them

jisung said bc they're older than him, they're like his younger siblings

rory had to look away in order to not laugh at his answer LMFAO

she couldnt contain how big her smile got when jaemin said that he couldn't live without them

she literally almost cried from tears of laughter from jeno's answer "onion"

renjun said that the members are youth to him

and him bringing up the stupid bottle to his face . i s2g she quickly yanked that from him so quick while laughing

"um, thank you for the question, siyoung!" she clapped slightly before continuing. "to me, the members are .. my childhood" she nodded slightly as she spoke. "we all grew up together so each of them have a piece of my childhood that i dont want to leave"

renjun pulls her into a side hug as jeno says "cute~"

when the fan said she'd stick with nct dream seven days a week, she laughed from the sudden overwhelming feeling at her words and bowed towards the fan, keeping her eyes to the ground so the camera wouldn't catch her teary eyes

too bad the camera did once she looked back up

"nct dream have 8 members--" when haechan said that, rory smiled big and nodded her head

"infinity" rory cheered, the members following behind

the next caller was up!

"ooh, poland" rory smiled

the fans question was "what are your biggest dreams" which she translated for them

rory's answer was "i have no doubt that nct dream will stay together forever so ... i my biggest dream is nctzens staying with us forever. even when we all grow up and have our own lives, i hope nctzens will some day think of nct dream and smile"

jaemin literally walked over and pinched her cheek, cooing at how cute she was

rory rolled her eyes playfully but let him

after the other members continue she then reminds them all to "wash their hands and wear their masks over their noses if they have to go out"

when renjun says bonjour her eyes widen and she says "wow, so you stole my english and now my french?" she jokingly raises her hand to hit him but all he does is laughs and grabs her hand to 'stop her'

last is boom!

they shouldve performed dear dream or mfal but i guess booms good too not like they havent had to hear that song for 9 months

she was still so short back then and her hair were always in pigtails

her hair was black, her hair was still virgin

she still thinks her outfits and everything were so bad

anyways

rory was VERY quiet this era

but not because of the boys

no, no

these eight were very close

even when chenle and renjun joined later

it was because of knetz/fans

she  tried her very best not to get on sns during this whole era because she  knew people would be upset that she was the only girl in an all boy  group

but sometimes she didn't even have to, instead getting  mail from those who didn't like her or the times when some were bold  enough to say it to her face

of course, the boys protected her from it

however  she did have some fans! she had three fansites from the start which  made her glad bc she didn't want to be embarrassed and not have any ...  unlike the others DLDFN

'ENCHANTED' (who was actually a male fansite!), 'ROAR', and 'RISING MOON'

she wasn't very comfortable dancing in her skirt but she figured she'd just have to deal with it

especially because the stylists wouldn't let her wear shorts like the boys

sigh

but  nct dream and red velvet's promotions clashed this era!! she got to see  her red velvet unnies more which was probably the most excited nctzens  had seen her yet

red velvet made her sing some of russian roulette btw

fans went crazy bc they knew she was supposed to debut in red velvet

she got to meet blackpink!! her and nari became really close despite the age difference

she loved being on the hoverboards though

she found them so cool

and was very glad she never fell off of them in public

she still has her hoverboard btw

she was mostly around mark or haechan during this era while they were out in public

overall she was just very glad to be debuting finally but she wasn't happy about how fans were treating her

she could do boy group dances just as well

and her voice actually did fit in well with the boys, too

thats why they put her in nct dream

ngl  although she knew, deep down in her heart she deserved to be there and  that she was put in dream for a reason, she was still a 16 year old girl who was hurt at the insults hurled at her

so of course the hate got to her

but she always had her members and red velvet!! <3
