I need more Robert x Punch Up x Coupé aka Mechapunchblades. There's lowkey no reason for the ship to be so underrated even among Z-Team polycule fans.
Obvi there's a lot of Punch Up x Coupé which we love. Love that I'm starting to see more Robert x Coupé. Robert x Punch Up is where we start to lose people.
It's kinda wild that there isn't more people into Mechapunch. As long as you don't cut Coupé, Punch Up is probably the most respectful towards Robert compared to the rest of the ex-villains. Everyone claims to love an age gap relationship and older men, well Punch Up is 43 which is like 12 years older than Robert. Want Robert tossed around like a ragdoll? The man with crazy inhuman strength can absolutely do that.
There are a couple reasons I can think of as to why Mechapunch/Mechapunchblades isn't more popular. 1) The a lack of screen time together, but it's not that good of a reason because if we determined ships based on screen time then Waterprism wouldn't be a popular ship either. 2) Punch Up's voice is very recognizably Jacksepticeye which can be pretty jarring and weird to imagine his voice when reading fanfiction. I have my moments where I cannot separate Jack from the character, but this also is not the real reason. If Jack's voice was the problem with Mechapunch, then it would be a problem with Mechabat and how recognizable Moistcritical's voice is.
I think it's pretty clear that the biggest reason Mechapunch is so unpopular is because of Punch Up's height. The height difference between Colm & Robert (or anyone on the team) is seen as too weird or jarring to the average person. Especially when you take into account how heteronormative shippers can be when it comes to queer ships and deciding top/bottom dynamics. Punch Up is too short for them to comfortably imagine as the top, but too overtly masculine to be the bottom.
And before anyone mentions it, I know Phenomaman is also very physically masculine and seen as a bottom; however Phenomaman is a very conventionally attractive giant of a man who's naive, full of sadness, and has questionable genitalia while Robert's twunk ass is average height. It's not a good comparison.
Anyways, as a certified short king (not as short as Colm but still under 5'0 ft), we deserve love too y'all.
