Vaati's former mentor and father figure, after Vaati's betrayal and theft of the mage's cap, their relationship has been understandably... strained. Any sign of Ezlo forgiving him or acting kind to him as Vaati blowing up in bitterness and anger. But they still know each other well after all this time, and Vaati can't completely suppress the sweet memories of what once was, no matter how much he tries to. His pride won't let him apologize. His reason won't let him deny the need for one. Vaati has spent years thinking about his dead master, and now when his family is placed in front of him again, he can't do anything but make more and more mistakes and push himself further away. Typical.

The first brave hero who defeated Vaati during the Force Era. But it's been a long time since then, and to be honest, Vaati is only being bitter against this boy out of spite, not any real hatred or malice. In fact, he actually sympathizes with the kid a lot, not that he would ever, ever admit it to anyone. Right now he mostly just acts like a schoolyard bully and enjoys getting a rise out of the hero. Prodding and prodding incessantly, but never where it hurts the most. At least, intentionally.

Considering that their first meeting involved Link nearly freezing to death on an isolated mountaintop and Vaati blowing a mound of snow into his face, it's a wonder how the mage hasn't immediately caused the other to mark him as an enemy. Vaati's actions, of course, stem from his inherent dislike for Links in general, whether that's deserved or not. At least a frozen Link is a Link less likely to wave his holy sword at his face, and out of the "deep wells of kindness in his heart" (yeah, he doesn't believe it either) Vaati can at least spare a minuscule amount of pity for the Hylian. Maybe. He also thinks seeing him suffer is funny, so who knows.
