But beneath the quiet intimacy of the moment, the Regent calmly confronts her husband about the scandal caused by the photos published in Voici. Already familiar with Laura Delcroix from their years at Polytechnique, Charlotte refuses to see the young woman as a romantic rival and instead condemns Louis’s irresponsibility for dragging a serious and discreet naval cadet into a humiliating media scandal. Ashamed, Napoleon tries to apologize, but Charlotte ultimately chooses to end the conversation without drama, revealing a disappointment far colder.

Charlotte: You look better.

Napoleon: I was sleeping quite well until a valet opened the curtains.

Charlotte: That must be less disturbing than the bugle at military school.

Charlotte: Henri and Marie-Joséphine will be arriving soon. They want to see you as well.

Napoleon: Very well.

Charlotte: It’s also out of love. They don’t just want to blame you for what happened.

Napoleon: Do you really read that trash?

Charlotte: Apparently, the whole Francesim does.

Mais derrière la douceur du moment, la Régente confronte calmement son mari à la polémique provoquée par les photos publiées dans Voici. Connaissant déjà Laura Delcroix depuis leurs années à Polytechnique, Charlotte refuse de voir la jeune femme comme une rivale et condamne surtout l’irresponsabilité de Louis, qui a entraîné une élève-officier sérieuse et discrète dans un scandale médiatique humiliant. Honteux, Napoléon tente de s’excuser, mais Charlotte préfère clore le sujet sans drame, laissant apparaître une déception bien plus froide.

Charlotte : Tu as meilleure mine qu’au réveil. Napoléon : Je dormais très bien avant qu’un valet ouvre les rideaux. Charlotte : Ce doit être moins dérangeant que le clairon de l’école militaire.

Charlotte : Henri et Marie-Joséphine vont bientôt arriver, ils veulent te revoir eux-aussi. Napoléon : Je m’en doutais. Très bien.

Charlotte : C’est aussi par amour. Ils ne veulent pas seulement te blâmer pour ce qui est arrivé. Napoléon : Vous lisez vraiment ce torchon ? Charlotte : Apparemment, toute la Francesim l’a fait.

Charlotte : Louis. Laura passait déjà son temps à corriger vos erreurs à Polytechnique pendant que Joachim essayait d’organiser des soirées clandestines.

Charlotte : Elle est sérieuse. Discrète. Travailleuse. Tu n’aurais pas dû l’impliquer dans vos bêtises. Napoléon : On ne l’a pas forcée.

Charlotte : Le pays traverse une crise majeure. La Polynésie menace de s’auto-déterminer. Je suis enceinte. Je termine mes études. Et je dois assurer la régence pendant que mon mari fait la couverture de Voici en sortant ivre d’une boîte de nuit.

Napoléon : Je suis désolé. Je pensais que –

After learning that his nephew has been frequenting nightclubs, Imperial Prince Henri sternly reprimands him about his responsibilities, reminding him that he is no longer merely a student, but a sovereign and soon-to-be father. He then informs him of an upcoming state visit to Thornolia in order to strengthen diplomatic ties with King Aurélien. Later that afternoon, Louis confides in his mother, Empress Marie-Joséphine, about Laura, who now refuses to speak to him after he confessed his feelings to her. Devastated, the Emperor admits that he loves Laura and acknowledges that she has become his closest confidante since the death of his father. Marie-Joséphine then tries to reassure him and encourages him to speak calmly with Laura once they are both ready.

FRANCESIM & THORNOLIA: Two French-Speaking Monarchies

H.I.H Imperial Prince Henri: It is a very protocol-conscious kingdom, rather isolated. Its origins and royal family line are deeply connected with Thalia, which as you know is a country who sought independence from us back in the 15th century.

The Kingdom of Thornolia has maintained a complex relationship with the Empire of Francesim for centuries. An island kingdom, Thornolia is renowned for its almost obsessive attachment to protocol, diplomatic discretion, and a certain form of aristocratic isolation. Yet behind its immutable traditions lies an old history deeply intertwined with Francesim.

The origins of the Thornolian dynasty can indeed be traced back to the ancient royal houses of Thalia, a territory once under French influence before the wars of independence in the 15th century. Following Thalia’s separation and the conflicts that followed, several French-speaking noble branches sought refuge on a island, gradually giving rise to the Thornolian monarchy. This shared history explains why, despite their profound cultural differences, the two crowns have always maintained a mutual respect.

Over the centuries, Thornolia became one of Francesim’s most steadfast diplomatic allies, particularly during periods when imperial legitimacy was uncertain. During the 1980s and 1990s, when the late Emperor Napoleon IV sought to consolidate his accession to the throne prior to the Imperial Restoration, King Aurélien was among the first sovereigns to officially recognize his coronation and provide discreet yet essential support on the international stage.

Henri : C’est un royaume très attentif au protocole, assez isolé. Il ne faut pas les froisser. Ils sont parmi nos premiers alliés, lorsque ton père cherchait du soutien pour se faire couronner.

Le Royaume de Thornolie entretient depuis des siècles une relation complexe avec l’Empire de Francesim. Royaume insulaire, la Thornolie est réputée pour son attachement presque obsessionnel au protocole, à la discrétion diplomatique et à une certaine forme d’isolement aristocratique. Derrière ses ses traditions immuables se cache cependant une vieille histoire profondément liée à Francesim.

Les origines de la dynastie thornolienne remontent en effet aux anciennes maisons royales de Thalia, territoire autrefois placé sous influence française avant les guerres d’indépendance du XVe siècle. Après la séparation de Thalia et les conflits qui suivirent, plusieurs branches nobles francophones trouvèrent refuge dans les îles, donnant progressivement naissance à la monarchie thornolienne. Cette parenté historique explique pourquoi, malgré leurs différences culturelles profondes, les deux couronnes ont toujours conservé un respect mutuel.

Au fil des siècles, la Thornolie est devenue l’un des alliés diplomatiques les plus constants de la Francesim, notamment dans les périodes où la légitimité impériale vacillait. Durant les années 1980 - 1990, lorsque feu l'empereur Napoléon IV chercha à consolider son accession au trône avant la restauration impériale, le roi Aurélien fut ainsi l’un des premiers à reconnaître officiellement son couronnement et à lui apporter un soutien discret mais essentiel sur la scène internationale.

Henri : Ton père aurait été furieux, tu le sais. Napoléon : Je sais.

Henri : Tu peux organiser des fêtes dans tes domaines, mais pas une boîte de nuit en ville. Tu imagines si des manifestants… ? Napoléon : Je… Je n’y avais pas pensé.

Henri : Ecoute-moi, Louis. Je me fiche de Voici magazine. Mais je tiens à toi et j’ai promis à ton père de te protéger. Tu n’es plus un jeune homme, tu es l’empereur. C’est ce que tu es, en tout temps.

Henri : Tu n’es pas un étudiant couronné en permission prolongée. Napoléon : Je fais de mon mieux.

Henri : Ce n’est pas suffisant. Tu es bientôt père, tu dois montrer l’exemple.

Henri : Le conseil de Régence a décidé de te confier une visite d’Etat le mois prochain. En Thornolie. Le roi Aurélien veut se rapprocher de l’Union Européenne. Napoléon : En Thornolie ?

Napoléon : Maman… Je vais bien. Marie : Tu es sûr ? Je suis là pour toi mon chéri. Tu as maigri…

Marie : … Et Laura ? Tu as des nouvelles ? Napoléon : Elle ne me répond pas. C’est… compliqué.

Marie : Tu peux tout me dire, si je peux t’aider ne serait-ce qu’un peu.

Napoléon : Je ne sais pas ce que je fais, Maman. Marie : C’est bien, l’honnêteté, mon fils.

Marie : Tu n’as pas à résoudre ça seul, Louis. Je suis ta mère, tu ne peux pas me blesser. Je ferais tout pour toi et ta sœur Napoléon : Hortense a plus de chance que moi.

Marie : Ne détourne pas la conversation. Napoléon : Je ne la détourne pas. Marie : Comment ça ?

Napoléon : Laura… Ne veut plus me voir. Elle est catégorique.

Marie : Oh mon fils... Et toi ? Que veux-tu ? Napoléon : Je… J’aimerais qu’elle soit là.

Napoléon : J’ai été idiot, elle me manque déjà. Marie : Elle ne veut plus te revoir du tout ? Tu en sûr ?

Marie : Je suis persuadée qu’il lui faut juste un peu de temps. Napoléon : Combien de temps, Maman ?

Marie : Tu es si affecté, Louis… Est-ce que tu me dis tout ?  Napoléon : C’est que…

(Napoléon V hésite, puis prend son courage à deux mains.)

Napoléon : C’est une femme très intelligente, avec un grand cœur. On s’est vite entendus. Et… Elle est ma confidente, depuis la mort de papa.

Napoléon : Je la vois comme… une sorte d’ange gardien. Je ne sais pas si sans elle… Marie : Mon dieu...

Marie : Louis, tu l’aimes n’est-ce pas ?  Napoléon : Oui…

Napoléon : Je suis en train de foutre ma vie en l’air !

Marie : Non, mon chéri. Merci de m’en avoir parlé. Napoléon : Je suis un monstre…

Marie : Non Louis. Est-ce que tu l’as dit à Laura ? Napoléon : C’est pour ça qu’elle ne me parle plus…Marie : Tu vas devoir discuter avec Laura, posément, quand vous serez prêts. Vous devrez prendre tout les deux une décision.

Until now, their relationship had remained unspoken, allowing them to pretend they were only close friends despite their growing emotional attachment.

Concerned for his sister but touched by the sincerity of her feelings, Adrien encourages Laura to stop sacrificing herself entirely for others and to confront what she truly wants.

(Laura and Adrien sit in the car after leaving the apartment.)

Adrien: That was really him… The Emperor… Unbelievable. Laura: Adrien… Adrien: Sorry. You’ve been talking about him since last year, but… it’s still insane to me.

Adrien: Mom may be right, you know… You don’t have to leave the apartment so quickly. Laura: I can’t, Adrien. I don’t know how I’m supposed to handle any of this anymore…

Adrien: Handle what? Laura: What comes next. Everything.

As her brother Adrien helps her pack up her belongings, Napoleon V arrives hoping to speak with her. Upon discovering that she is leaving, he is overcome with emotion. Beneath his anger lies a deeper fear: that he may lose Laura forever.

Laura: Don’t worry, Mom. Adrien and I are almost done… There are only two or three bags left…

Laura: No, I’m not forgetting anything, and honestly, even if I do, it’s not a big deal… Yes, yes, I’m sure… If I stay here, I’ll never make it through the year…

Laura: I know Louis never wanted any of this… We already talked about it… It’s just that he won’t leave me alone and—

Laura: Ah!

(Napoleon suddenly appears inside the apartment. Laura startles and drops her phone.)

Napoleon: Laura?... You’re leaving?

Napoleon: You didn’t tell me. My security agents can help you— Laura: No, it’s fine. I had nothing to tell you or your agents before today.

Napoleon: Is this because of— Laura: Louis, stop. Please !

(Napoleon bends down to help her pick up her phone.)

(He hands her phone back. She sets her box down with a sigh.)

Laura: I’m the one who’s sorry, Louis. I’m not made for— Napoleon: Who cares what they think? Laura: Maybe you don’t. I do.

(Napoleon struggles to take the remark.)

(She stops for a brief moment.)

Laura: …You’re looking somewhere else! You’re putting me through this! Napoleon: I love you! And you love me too, I know it!

Laura: I don’t have to endure your aristocratic little games! If you loved me before your marriage, you should have thought about it then! Napoleon: I lacked courage, that’s true! Until today!

Laura: You’re right, I love you! But it terrifies me, and now it’s too late, and that’s the truth too! You have to accept it, otherwise we’ll— Napoleon: Laura, calm down, you don’t really think— Laura: Listen to me!

Napoleon: I don’t agree with you. We can fix our mistakes, together.

(Laura turns Napoleon toward the apartment exit, once again terrified by the intensity of the feelings they share.)

Laura: You drive me insane… Napoleon: Laura, don’t go. Laura: You’re forcing me to.

Laura: If I give in, my life will be dragged through the mud forever, unfairly. Napoleon: At least let us try…

Laura: No means no! Good God, Louis! Napoleon: I can’t spend years passing by your side pretending none of this exists! It’s impossible!

(A man in his thirties appears, his coat still damp from the rain. The same dark eyes as Laura, the same restraint in his movements.)

Adrien Delcroix, her older brother.

Adrien: Laura? There’s nothing left upstairs. Laura: Adrien… Mon grand frère…

(Adrien looks toward Napoleon. He greets him briefly, without open hostility, but without any particular deference either.)

Adrien: Wait for me in the car. I’ll bring down what’s left. Laura: Alright. Napoleon: Laura...

(Laura leaves the apartment.)

Adrien: Sire… My sister explained everything to me.

(Napoleon sighs. As if this situation were not already humiliating enough.)

Adrien: Please… let her breathe. She needs it. Napoleon: What exactly are you accusing me of? Adrien: Nothing, Your Majesty.

Adrien: With all due respect, Laura is suffering terribly from all of this — the rumors, the paparazzi harassing her. If you truly care about her wellbeing, then stop insisting. Napoleon: I’ll pay for whatever care and security she needs.

(Napoléon apparaît dans l’appartement, Laura sursaute et fait tomber son téléphone.)

Napoléon : Laura ?...  Tu pars ?

Napoléon : Tu ne m’as rien dit, mes agents de sécurité vont t’aider... Laura : Non, c’est bon. Je n’avais rien à vous dire, à toi et tes agents, avant aujourd’hui.

Napoléon : C’est à cause de … Laura : Louis, arrête.

(Napoléon se penche pour aider Laura à récupérer son téléphone.)

Laura : On en a déjà assez discuté. Je n’ai plus la force de le faire. Napoléon : Justement… On devrait en discuter.

Laura : Pour dire quoi de plus, exactement ? Napoléon : Beaucoup de choses.

(Il rend le téléphone, elle pose son carton en soupirant.)

Laura : Merci… Qu’est-ce que tu fais là ? Napoléon : Je voulais t’attendre ici, pour m’excuser. Pour ces derniers jours.

Laura : C’est moi qui suis désolée Louis, je ne suis pas faite pour- Napoléon : On s’en fiche de ce qu’ils pensent. Laura : Toi, peut-être. Pas moi.

Napoléon : Tu me punis ? Si tu pars de la coloc’, les paparazzi vont le remarquer. Laura : Ne rends pas ça injuste. Je fais ce que toi, tu es incapable de faire.

(Elle s’interrompt un petit instant.)

Laura : … Tu regardes ailleurs ! Et tu m’infliges ça ! Napoléon : Je t’aime ! Et tu m’aimes aussi, je le sais !

Laura : Je n’ai pas à subir vos petits jeux d’aristocrates ! Si tu m’aimais avant ton mariage, tu n’avais qu’à y réfléchir ! Napoléon : J’ai manqué de courage c’est vrai ! Jusqu’à aujourd’hui !

Laura : Moi aussi, j’ai manqué de courage jusqu’à aujourd’hui ! Napoléon : De quoi ?

Napoléon : Je ne suis pas d’accord avec toi. On peut réparer nos erreurs, ensemble.

(Laura tourne Napoléon vers la sortie de l’appartement, encore une fois terrifiée par la force des sentiments qu’ils partagent tout les deux.)

Laura : Tu me rends folle… Napoléon : Laura, ne pars pas. Laura : Tu m’y obliges.

Laura : Si je cède, ma vie sera à jamais traînée dans la boue, injustement. Je n’y survivrai pas. Napoléon : Essayons au moins…

Laura : Non, c’est non ! Bon Dieu, Louis ! Napoléon : Je ne veux pas passer à côté de toi pendant des années, c’est impossible !

Un homme d’une trentaine d’années apparaît, manteau encore humide de pluie sur les épaules. Même regard sombre que Laura, même retenue dans les gestes.

Adrien Delcroix, son frère aîné.

Adrien : Laura ? Il ne reste rien en haut. Laura : Adrien…

(Adrien pose son regard sur Napoléon. Il le salue brièvement, sans hostilité ouverte, mais sans aucune déférence particulière non plus.)

Adrien : Attends-moi à la voiture, j’apporte ce qui reste. Laura : Très bien. Napoléon : Je t’aime.

(Laura quitte l’appartement.)

Adrien : Sire… Ma soeur m’a tout expliqué.

(Napoléon soupire. Il ne manquait plus que ça.)

Adrien : S’il-vous-plaît, laissez-la respirer. Elle en a besoin. Napoléon : De quoi m’accusez-vous, au juste ? Adrien : De rien, Votre Majesté.

After a tense discussion with Joachim in the operations center of the training ship, Napoleon V follows Laura into the corridors of the vessel. Shaken by the press article that has suddenly exposed her to all of Francesim, the young officer cadet feels completely overwhelmed. Laura refuses to become a threat to Charlotte, whom she deeply respects, and accuses Louis of losing himself in grief, scandals, and the confusion of his own feelings.

But Napoleon finally admits that his attachment to her has existed for months. Despite his marriage and his imperial duty, he always finds himself coming back to her. Torn between his role as sovereign and his emotions, he finally confesses that he loves Laura, whom he considers the only person around whom he no longer feels trapped by his life.

Just as they finally give in to a first kiss, another officer cadet abruptly interrupts them: the commander is demanding their immediate presence in his office.

Napoleon: Laura, wait. Napoleon: Station three may need a second operator. Laura: This is not the time, Louis. Napoleon: I’m sorry. Laura: For what? Napoleon: For everything. Laura: You didn’t write that article. Napoleon: No, but— Laura: I… I never thought that one day the entire country would talk about me like… like… My life has been reduced to vulgar headlines.

(Napoleon knows how badly Laura wanted to prove herself on her own, and he feels as though he has ruined all of her efforts forever. He hates himself for it.)

Napoleon: I never should have let this happen… I— Laura: You can’t control everything, Louis. Napoleon: I wish I could.

(Silence.)

Laura: Joachim is wrong. About us. There will never be an “us” Napoleon: Laura— Laura: You’re married. Charlotte loves you. She carries your name, your Empire, your child. And me… what exactly am I becoming? Napoleon: I— Laura: You’re grieving, the country is weakening, and I… I’m simply here at the wrong moment. Napoleon: No. I’ve had feelings for you long before my father died. This is not some passing weakness. Laura: Then why? Why did you marry Charlotte? What kind of game are you playing? (Another officer cadet, Martin, suddenly finds them. Startled, they immediately separate before more rumors can begin.)

Martin: Hey, where were you? The commander wants you both in his office immediately. He insisted on the word “immediately.”

Après une discussion tendue avec Joachim au centre opérationnel du navire-école, Napoléon V rejoint Laura dans les couloirs du bâtiment. Bouleversée par l’article de presse qui l’expose désormais à toute la Francesim, la jeune élève-officier est totalement dépassée. Laura refuse de devenir une menace pour Charlotte, qu’elle respecte profondément, et accuse Louis de se perdre dans le deuil, les scandales et la confusion de ses sentiments.

Mais Napoléon finit par lui avouer que son attachement pour elle existe depuis des mois, malgré son mariage et son devoir impérial, il revient toujours vers elle. Pris entre son rôle de souverain et ses sentiments, il reconnaît enfin aimer Laura, qu’il considère comme la seule personne auprès de qui il ne se sent plus enfermé dans sa vie.

Alors qu’ils s’abandonnent enfin à un premier baiser, un autre élève-officier les interrompt brutalement : le commandant exige la présence immédiate de deux élèves dans son bureau.

Napoléon : Laura, attends.

Napoléon : Le poste trois a peut-être besoin d’un second opérateur.

Laura : Ce n’est pas le moment, Louis.

Napoléon : Je suis désolé.

Laura : Pour quoi ?

Napoléon : Pour tout.

Laura : Tu n’as pas écrit cet article.

Napoléon : Non, mais –

Laura : Je… Je ne pensais pas qu’un jour le pays parlerait de moi comme… comme… Ma vie est réduite à des titres vulgaires

(Napoléon sait à quel point Laura voulait faire ses preuves par elle-même, et il a l’impression d’avoir réduit ses efforts à jamais, pour toujours. Il s’en veut.)

Napoléon : Je n’aurais jamais dû laisser ça passer… Je…

Laura : Tu ne peux pas tout contrôler, Louis.

Napoléon : J’aimerais.

(Silence.)

Laura : Joachim a tort. A propos de nous. Il n’y aura pas de « nous ».

Napoléon : Laura –

Laura : Tu es marié, Charlotte t’aime, elle porte ton nom, ton empire, ton enfant. Et moi, je suis en train de devenir quoi exactement ?

Napoléon : Je –

Laura : Tu es en deuil, le pays est affaibli, et moi… Je suis juste là, au mauvais moment.

Napoléon : Non. J’éprouve des sentiments pour toi, bien avant la mort de mon père. Ce n’est pas une faiblesse passagère.

Laura : Alors pourquoi ? Pourquoi avoir épousé Charlotte ? A quel jeu joues-tu ?

Napoléon : Mon père a toujours voulu qu’il en soit ainsi. Et j’ai essayé, pendant des mois. Mais chaque fois… c’est vers toi que je reviens.

(Napoléon tente de l’embrasser. Elle ne le repousse pas.)

(Un autre élève-officier, Martin, les retrouve. Surpris, les deux se séparent avant qu’il n’y ait d’autres rumeurs.)

Martin : Hé, vous étiez-où ? Le commandant vous attend dans son bureau immédiatement. Il insiste sur le mot « immédiatement ».
