Protecting Power
Summary: Being a siphoner came with enough problems. It wasn’t something I needed the Mikaelsons knowing and using but nothing ever stays secret.
I was planning on just doing one episode per chapter, but I made this one so short that I think it’d make sense just to add the next episode I wrote as well. Also yes I did skip a bit don’t worry too much this is fanfic.
Eventual Klaus Mikaelson x Siphoner! reader
Rose
Elena had been kidnapped. That was all Bonnie told me before she pulled up outside my classroom in the middle of an assignment.
She pulled us to Alaric’s classroom where Stefan and Damon were waiting worriedly with Jeremy. I'd met the brothers the night before but I still felt awkward as I stood by them while Bonnie set up a map.
"Ok all we need is Jeremy's blood," Bonnie stated simply. Jeremy went to cut his hand but paused. "Bonnie are you sure you can do this right now?" I looked toward Bonnie confused. Bonnie defensively shook her head at Jeremy but I decided to step in. "I can do it for you if you want?" Bonnie looked at me a bit surprised, "No it's ok, you know how that'll go."
"I think it's a good idea," Damon spoke suddenly. I was about to put him on my friends list before he finished his thought, "We can't have you messing up the spell and getting the wrong location." He gave Bonnie a pointed look. Bonnie glared back at him and moved to do the spell, but I took a step toward her. "No it's fine Bon, I'll do it and Damon can help me." I smiled at her and she seemed a bit nervous but nodded nonetheless. Damon looked at me confused but stood near my spot behind Alaric’s desk. I signaled to Jeremy to cut his hand and I watched his blood flow onto the map.
I quickly grabbed Damon's wrist and siphoned him as I did the spell to find Elena. My eyes were closed, but I heard him grunt and struggle at my siphoning. I let go when the spell was complete and opened my eyes to find him on his knees clutching his wrist.
He looked a bit scared of me but I just shrugged. "If you wanted the pain free way you should've let Bonnie do it." I looked over at Bonnie who was smirking slightly at the shook looking Damon. He looked at both of us quickly before turning his attention back to the map.
After I tracked Elena, Bonnie told me to go home, because school was over by then. I can’t believe I missed the last ten minutes of class to do a spell. Maybe life does get better. Bonnie said she thought it wasn't fair to drag me into shenanigans that were none of my business, and as much as I was saddened at Elena's kidnapping, I agreed with her.
I wanted to be friends with Bonnie, but I did not enjoy how the vampires were treating her. Maybe this was an off week for them, but it kind of felt like they always forced her to find a solution to the problems they created. I didn't hear from Bonnie until the end of the day. She sent a simple text "Elena's back and safe. Thank you for helping."
I asked if she was ok, but she didn't respond
The Sacrifice
Bonnie hadn't talked to me in days, so I was surprised when someone called me in the middle of my homework. "Hello?" I answered. "Hey, it's Elena. Do you mind if I ask you to do me a huge favor?"
I should've said no because this was ridiculous.
Elena, Rose, and I all came to some vampire named Slater's apartment to talk with him, only to find him staked and dead on the floor. His girlfriend was hysterical, and I felt bad for her until she agreed to help Elena open his computer, only on the basis Rose turned her after. Who the hell wants to be a vampire so bad they betray their dead boyfriend?
"What are you doing?" I heard Rose ask Elena. "Sending a message out. I'm telling Klaus I'm alive and I'm right here for him to come and get."
I turned around in shock, Elena had explained Klaus’ lore in the car. "You did what?" I reached for the computer but Elena moved it out of my reach. "I can't risk him hurting anyone I care about. It's better he gets me now then later." I rolled my eyes at the thought. Why would she tell the evil vampire where she is ever? More importantly, why would she do that when me and Rose are here too? Rose began arguing with Elena. While she was distracted I snitched her phone and walked into a room farther away. Damon's number was one of the most called so I just hit redial. It rang once before Damon picked up. "Elena did something again." I told him Slater's address, "Who the hell is this?" he sounded offended. "Y/N, I'm Bonnie's friend. I've helped you save Elena twice and I barely know you." He hummed in understanding, "Yea you're the torture witch from the other day. I'm on the way don't let Elena die please."
"I'll try but she's kind of in a self sacrificing mood." I said looking back toward the living room.
"She's always like that don't worry."
Damon arrived about 20 minutes later and by then Elena had still not snapped out of it. Damon was about ten seconds from dragging her kicking and screaming home when a knock was heard on the door. Rose looked to Damon who nodded at the door as a sign to open it. She did, and a man walked in with two backup guys.
"I got message about contacting Klaus?"
"Yes that was from me come in" Elena answered. Damon started cursing her out as I sent her a confused look from across the room. As the men entered the room I saw Damon look toward me. Great I'm on fighting duty, that's fun. Is this gonna be a new normal for me? The lead guy stepped toward me but seemed to sense my distaste for him and backed up. This was an unfortunate decision for him as his heart was then removed from his body.
He fell forward and I was able to see his killer standing behind him. Rose immeadietly left. I didn't know who he was but Damon seemed to.
"I killed you, you were dead."
The man looked at him contemplatively, "For centuries now."
He looked towards the two other goons who looked as confused as me. "Who are you?"
"I'm Elijah" he answered. I understood almost nothing still but the goons started trying to convince him they were getting Elena for him. "Does anyone know you're here?" Elijah asked. They shook they're heads feverishly. "Then you have been a great help," he said before ripping both of their hearts out.
"Jesus Christ." I mumbled and he looked towards me. I shot my hands and pointed towards Elena. He looked over at Damon and Elena then sped off.
"What the actual fuck?" I asked rhetorically.
Damon explained the lore of Elijah more in depth on the ride home. I made a mental note not to help Elena ever again once her and Damon began bickering like a married couple all the way to my house.
Damon examined my driveway, "Are your parents even home?" he asked.
"What are you a Jehovah's Witness?" I spat, slamming his car door shut.
The Scavenger
The Variable
Series 1 Arc: The Foundation of Malachai
Banished from the family table and treated like a ghost, Kai spends his days prowling the attic and floorboards, siphoning the "magic" out of forgotten heirlooms just to feel the high of a stolen spark.
Thirteen-year-old Malachai moved through the Parker house like a draft of cold air—unseen, unaddressed, and unwanted. The warmth of his tenth birthday was a distant, bitter memory. Now, his father’s gaze simply slid over him as if he were a piece of furniture. Joshua no longer called him "my boy"; he didn't even call him Kai. If he spoke to him at all, it was to give a cold command or a warning to keep his distance from the younger siblings.
I believe that if Mother Nature didn’t want something to exist, it wouldn’t exist or it wouldn’t exist for long. So, everyone calling Vampires, Hybrids, and Siphoners abomination and an act against nature made no sense. If Mother Nature didn’t want Klaus to exist, he wouldn’t have been able to survive that long. Presumably, there are thousands of Vampires in each sire line (excluding Finn probably) meaning they roamed the earth for who knows how long with a way to live and die like everything else in Nature.
Tvdu Poll! ♡
I'm obsessed with Siphons - they are my favourite supernatural in Tvd so I read a lot of Fanfics where the Ofc is one and I've seen so many different takes on if Sheila Bennett would care if someone was a Siphoner.
Would Sheila Bennett care if someone was a Siphoner?

Yes - She doesn't hate them but she doesn't think they should exist
No - She doesn't hate them but doesn't want them near her or her family
No - She doesn't like the idea of siphoning and pitties them
No - She is okay with Siphoners existing but doesn't care about them
No - She has no issues with them and stands up for them
She doesn't know they exist
She hates some but likes others (Depends on the ocs personality & Behaviour)
Untangling the Siphon Merge: Answering the "How Do They Even…?
Question:
So. Question about The Merge. Well, for the girls anyways, so. They’re siphoners. Meaning they siphon, of course, and that means they have no magic of their own and have to take it from someone or something else. If they need magic in order to do the spells. How can they Merge if they don’t have magic? Because. Wouldn’t they just absorb or siphon it from each other, I mean. How do they tell who’s strongest. Even though we already know. I’m just not sure how it works for them. Help? Explain maybe? 😊
Ughhh... well, this is gonna be long.
So, as far as I remember from the show (which I watched a long time ago and there might be some pretty big inaccuracies), the Gemini coven works like this: in each generation, the leaders of the coven must be twins who, at 22 (or 21, but let's take 22), have to perform a ritual called the Merge during a celestial event. The mandatory criterion for this ritual is that they absolutely MUST be twins, and that's it.
As I understood it, at birth (most likely only in this coven, but we haven't met other witch twins) their magic is kinda shared but split between two people, and thanks to this ritual, it gets collected into one, making the winner of this Merge much stronger and their magic more stable. Well, that's exactly how I understood this concept, because it might be different, and it's just two witches whose magic gets collected into one person, like in a harvest, but it's more stable because they're twins, but in the end, the winning witch still becomes much stronger.
So, when this ritual ends, all the lives of the Gemini coven members get tied to the new leader, meaning the winner of the Merge.
In this coven, there's a chance that a special kind of witch might appear who has no magic of their own but can absorb it from external sources. It's very rare, but it happens. It's unknown if siphons can appear outside this coven, but all the siphons we know came from it.
The siphons themselves, as I already said, have no magic of their own but can absorb it from outside their body, meaning from other supernatural beings, magical objects (so, cursed ones), enchanted places, etc. This makes them simultaneously powerful and relatively weak without an energy source (magic).
And what's important is that they have a one hundred percent chance of winning the Merge against a witch opponent because they'll immediately suck out all the magical power from their opponent during the Merge.
But the problems start when two siphons fight in the Merge. This is exactly the headache you gave me (I thought about this damn Merge for several hours) with your question, because all the concepts I laid out (namely, the two most logical ones, and everything else stems from them, and only the craziest Merge theories go down a different path which is totally unclear) say that the Merge for two siphons is completely impossible.
If you say that they just need to pull magic from outside and then start the Merge ritual, I'll wanna break your neck and say that it makes no sense because that's magic they pulled from something else, it's not their opponent's magic, it's foreign.
Or maybe you'll say that they assimilate the energy, and after they've absorbed it, it becomes theirs, but that also makes little sense because even if they assimilate that magic, it doesn't change the fact that it won't become the magic they got at birth
(So, witches in their universe have innate magic in their bodies; it regenerates on its own, it's theirs from birth, and they can increase it through training. In their bodies, there's an overall, let's say, limit (which can increase), and their magic regenerates to this limit during rest, while the magic in siphons is simply absorbed by them; it's just placed in a flask (which, if you think about it, might itself be this same limit, which can also increase if it's constantly subjected to heavy filling) which runs out and gets refilled through using magic and absorbing more. It's not the same as with witches, and the opponent sucking out all their magic shouldn't kill the siphon, just deplete them of all accumulated magic!)
Аnd when it's taken away in the battle of will and magic during the Merge, their flask would just become empty, and it would simply wait to be refilled from another source later, not kill them! And of course, this isn't their innate power that needs to be taken in this ritual! Even if you consider it "their" magic after absorption, it's still like pouring all the liquid out of a flask – the flask remains a flask even without water.
The loser would still survive unless the ritual itself implies the automatic death of one of them (which is sad), and that still wouldn't give the winner ANYTHING, because the magic they both absorbed could have been absorbed by one person alone without losing a twin in the process.
You could just say that this ritual for siphons would increase the volume of how much they could absorb without harming themselves, but that's weird because it's still unclear how exactly the ritual is supposed to work, because my sanest thought about how they could increase the flask's volume is how they exchanged magic with each other during the battle, trying to absorb way beyond their limits since both were almost full to the brim.
And during this battle, their limit itself would increase rapidly (though it would probably be very painful and harmful). Or they could try to absorb some kind of spark that made them siphons, but that's in the realm of crazy thoughts that are unclear how to implement.
We reject the first option because they could do that without this ritual, just maybe without such strong loads on their limit.
Oh, and yes, I already said that the most logical option in this whole situation would be for Lizzie and Josie to just NOT use the Merge ritual.
Because listen up, sweethearts, it's not mandatory. Yeah, I don't know about Legacies season 4, but in The Vampire Diaries, it's clear that the ritual itself is needed to find a new coven leader so you don't die when the previous leader gets old.
And even if you think that the consequences didn't catch up with Jo and Kai because one voluntarily stripped themselves of magic and the other got stuck at one age, that wouldn't be very logical because when Kai got out of the prison, the consequences should have dogged him until he merged with Luke. So that's all a hypothetical situation.
And since the previous coven leader is dead, they don't need a new leader to avoid dying. (Maybe I missed something because I didn't really watch season 4 of Legacies properly, I barely watched it, but whatever happens there should fit into this framework.) So from this, we should understand that the Merge ritual should have either not worked or thrown a system error. And that it most likely could not happen after 22. And most likely, Julie Plec really did mess things up.
(And seems like my obsession with siphons is back.)
(Oh, and yeah, I didn't know how to start this sentence with this parenthesis, so I'm writing with it, but most likely during the Merge, it's not just magic that gets absorbed, but also a part of the magic wielder's essence, which technically doesn't change things that much because it's an addition to the magic which is part of the witch's very core. So if you think about it that way, the magic carries a pretty strong imprint of the one it was in, which is exactly why Kai developed the ability to feel things from Luke.
Hmm... Still, this can be chalked up to precisely that and not to some life force whose traces of gain/loss we don't see.)
So they absolutely cannot perform this ritual in any way without some huge failure. And if it does determine who's stronger, it's only by how much magic they can absorb while resisting the siphoning of what they'd absorbed before.
And that would be a battle of will, like I already said. Also, it's about how much magic they can hold in their flask without bursting, because it would definitely be more than they had before and beyond their limit. Well, like I said before, they could do that without the ritual to practice siphoning (or whatever it's called).
So it's IMPOSSIBLE. And yes, Julie Plec most likely ruined the canon.
Thank you so much for your attention, and I hope you enjoyed what I wrote. ❤️💗❤️

god, she's so beautiful.
he thought as he stared at your drowsy form.
at the soft arch in your back, at your silky smooth curtains of hair and the way it cascaded onto your face, swaying softly with the breath of breeze that travelled through the double doors on either side of the corridors.
it was kai who had carried you bridal style through the empty hallways of mystic falls high and tied you up to the ceiling tiles. he'd done it all so meticulously, locked your handcuffs in around each of your smooth, porcelain wrists. wrapped a black headband around your lids, letting his fingertips graze the cold skin of your cheeks.
he could feel a twitch from under his kaki cargo shorts form as he let his mind drift to a vision of you wailing and moaning in pain as he practiced his magic on you. the thought of you writhing in agonising pain on your knees in front of him, relaxing into his touch as he grasped your chin tightly was enough to send him over the edge.
he yearned nothing more but to break you. to break you and bend you to his will. to mark you and claim you as his. but most importantly, to make you love him as much as he adored you.
flinching, you turned your limp head away from the white haze of lights seeping your vision through the black material covering your eyelids. you hear the monotonous hum of electricity.
what the fuck?
you jerk your head up suddenly, twisting your head from side to side as you try your hardest to see through the fabric tightly wrapped around your eyes. you finally feel the rest of your limbs outstretched and when you try to move your right hand you hear the loud jangle of chains.
is this some sick joke?
your heartbeat accelerates in your chest, ready to leap out of your ribcage and out of your dry mouth. you inhale shakily and try to tap into your magic but it's as if it's been dried up. panic surges through you tenfold as you realise you can't feel your magic through your veins.
"i'd give up trying if i were you, i've sucked up most of your magic. thanks for that by the way doll face.”
suddenly a pair of hands settled on the sides of your head and snaked around to reach the knot holding the folded fabric over your eyes on. with a small tug, the fabric came undone.
you blinked hard as your eyes focused on a tall figure towering over your restrained form, inching slowly toward you.
you’d be lying to yourself if you didn’t think he was breathtakingly gorgeous, with his chiselled jaw and button nose and the lopsided smirk resting on his plump lips.
but what entranced you most were his metallic blue eyes, a mixture of asphalt and gas-stove-blue flames, sparking with azure embers.
his eyes were kindled with excessive excitement, but the churning feeling from within the pit of your stomach and the goosebumps creeping over your bare arms outwardly showed the dread you had for the man shamelessly trailing his gaze down your shackled body, almost undressing you with your eyes.
fucking perv.
“who are you?” you hesitantly asked.
“oh i’ve forgot to introduce myself. manners, i’m kai, pleased to make your acquaintance. i'm quite offended damon and bonnie haven't mentioned me.”
“oh, they have. i know you're a social pariah and fucking psycho and i want you to unshackle me right now-“
suddenly, he gripped your jaw in his hand, interrupting you. the cold, silver metal of the ring on his index finger burning against your skin as he turned your face in his soft palm and you felt disgust at yourself the pang of warmth the action sent through your abdomen, spreading like wildfire to your cheeks.
his eyes squinted as he analysed every detail on your face, as if committing the sight of you to memory, photographing you into his dirty, perverse twisted mind.
"you've got quite the mouth on you, i'm surprised. considering how cute you look."
he let go of you gently, smirking at the look of distaste on your face.
after all, he loves the idea of a challenge.
“sorry about earlier, i didn't mean to knock you out. in fact i think i might’ve accidentally killed you, judging by the colour of your skin and the veins bulging out of your cute face, you looked like mouldy cheese” you crinkled your nose at this.
"why did you take me?" you whispered
"oh. i thought it was obvious. you're a freak of nature, well that's rich coming from me but i find you truly fascinating. besides, your regenerative powers make me feel less awful about toying with your life."
"my friends will come get me soon." you tugged against your chains, moving as much as the fetters allowed toward him threateningly, staring him down. you rattled against your cuffs and kept on tugging on them.
"nothing a little invisique spell can't fix. do me a favour and stop making such a fuss? it's insufferably annoying."
he lifted his hand toward you and you winced as a wave agony lashed across your face. you felt an invisible force tracing across your cheek painfully and you screamed at the sight of blood dripping down your jaw. your heart lapped against your ribcage in fear and you moaned with pain as kai's magic gouged lines into your face. soon the pain resided and your head lolled down as you stared at the floor.
you heard a loud crack and glass shatter onto the floor and from your peripheral vision noticed him pick up a shard. he advanced toward you, tilting your head up once again with his index and thumb abruptly, extending the mirror toward you. you stared back at your reflection, trails of tears under your sunken eyes and a bloody "K" letter carved into the skin of your cheek.
he licked his lips as he watched the blood pool at the edge of your face, dripping onto the floor, his eyes brightening at the sight. He turned to look into your face, his line of sight falling to your red lips, bruised from biting onto them. he placed his own above yours, ghosting over the skin and you felt his mouth stretch into a wide smirk. immobilised you drew in a sharp breath at the beyond-invasive proximity. feeling a shudder pass down your spine at the pool of heat building between the flesh of your legs, covered with skin-tight jeans
gently, he brushed your hair behind your ear whispering slowly into it.
"you look perfect." he told you, grazing your cheek with his thumb as he smeared the blood onto his finger, licking it off with his tongue.
you kneed him, eliciting a grunt of pain and tugged furiously at your handcuffs which gave way with the second yank, dawning coming upon you that your supernatural strength had regenerated. you burst into a sprint toward the doors to the outside, pushing them open forcefully and leaped out before being sent backward. You hurled yourself again in hopes you could pass the threshold to the outside but was knocked back again due to the invisible magical barrier planted at the entrance.
“come back doll face, i’m not done with you!” you heard him say loudly from down the corridor. you turned on your heel and chased down another corridor, bursting through another door.
with a whoosh of wind, the lights flickered intermittently. you looked around to see you landed into a cafeteria, adorned with white and red foldable, large lunch tables. you rushed to the double doors at the end of the lunch all and tugged them open.
you felt your heart plummet down into your stomach, drumming loudly in your ears, prying its way out of your body.
kai raised his head to gaze at you as you opened the door. his hand propped over his head, body slouched forward, as he'd been patiently waiting for you on the other side of the door all along. he wanted to make you feel like you stood a chance and thrived off taking that glimmer of hope away. he got off your despair and couldn’t help the cheshire smile pulling at the sides of his mouth, brimming with pride.
“found you.”
