tessercraft—at the start of each round, a Tactician may choose a single target it can see; the target must save or teleport instantly within 5’ of the Tactician or another War Elemental. Anything in the path of the forming wall must Save or take 3d6 crushing damage as they narrowly avoid entombment.

Tacticians are the closest thing to a direct embodiment of the will of the Front that most people ever see. They are created from particularly useful foot soldiers, hand-selected (and often groomed well in advance) by the Strategists. They are allowed the privilege to elect, demote, and discipline officers, and expected to direct small unit tactics for high-value actions, surveil the rank and file for breaches in morale standards and possible deserters, and enact capital punishment for major breaches of procedure. They prefer not to walk about with their alterations bared except in combat situations; conservative Tacticians will cover their via visceralis with a tightly buttoned officer’s jacket, heavy scarf, and iron mask, while more vain ones prefer to commission elaborate prosthetic “public faces” that slot neatly into the space. They have a personal connection to the Front itself. Their awareness suffuses the world around them, feeding back not only the raw sensory information of their surroundings but also the name, rank, role, decorations, allegiance, and emotional state of everything on the field. They have an attenuated sense of self and otherness—from a Tactician’s perspective, everything is a component of a deeply interactive system that periodically malfunctions and fails to communicate properly with the rest of the whole. A Tactician does not have enemies; it has disposable, adjustable organs that must be coaxed, usually by force, into playing their role.
