My quest for global peace | Ayane Murakami | TEDxDejima Women
Born and raised in Nagasaki, Ayane Murakami and her generation have never known war. Even so, she continues to pass on her war experiences. She hears from war survivors, uses her imagination, and speaks in her own words. Born in Nagasaki and currently a senior at Nagasaki University. She was a student with a lot of inferiority complexes. With a desire to "change herself," she became involved in nuclear abolition and peace activities as a high school student. In university, she was inspired by the wider world through her experiences as a member of the Nagasaki Youth Delegation and One Young World Ambassador. Since then, she has been thinking, learning, and acting to change the high hurdles in social issues and peace activities. She enjoys meeting people the most and struggles to make a difference every day. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Life at C-Sec was boring as per usual, but at least within the last couple months becoming the 2nd human spectre ever, a certain Commander Shepard had been been the talk of the Citadel as well as C-Sec. From grousing that Chellick didn’t need a civilian human girl to do his dirty work to busting Fist’s stupid ring in Chora’s Den life was certainly more interesting lately.
It made him jealous, lessened only by the fact by some stroke of luck from the Spirits that he’d become the Commander’s C-Sec contact. All because of a friendly conversation they’d had while patrolling the Citadel Tower.
However, after not hearing about the Commander for a solid galactic month while he went hopping around the galaxy, Garrus was starting to miss talking to the guy.
Sighing, tapping away at a datapad, he glanced up to check where he was going only to skid to a halt in surprise. Browplates rising, his mandibles flared in a grin as he started moving again, a little bounce in his step. Eager and ready to be of service. “Commander Shepard! Good to see you. The Requisition’s Officer didn’t let me know you were back or I could’ve met with you.”

So I know we all love that feeling of “I don’t have social energy today and my plans got cancelled” but can we talk about that awful feeling of “I properly budgeted my social energy and was Super Excited to use it but my plans got cancelled” because that’s me right now and I just want to talk to people but none of my talking to people are around
I am someone who needs time before engaging in any social activity to mentally prepare myself for it and today my boyfriend and I were outside doing fun stuff and had the plan to go to the mall and get some kitchen gear and then have homemade ravioli for dinner. I was happy.
Then suddenly, in the middle of a conversation and without any warning, he called his friend (who was in town with her boyfriend and his two children) and asked if they wanted to meet up. I was like uh okay.
We made plans to go shopping after (I was hyped for it, I just love buying useful stuff) but when we were in the park with the family, it was cold and he invited them over to our place. I was just eeeeehhh?
They came over, I was hungry and felt like a bad host for eating but luckily they are good friends and just came from a burger place. It was fine. But my energy got drained because I wasn’t prepared for it. Eventually, (the children were young) they talked about going home but the children played on the PS4 on of course wanted to stay longer and my boyfriend just kept trying to convince them to stay, leave the children with us or go out have dinner together. I was mentally exhausted by that time.
I pinched his arm or looked at him to make him stop. He knows by now that this stuff is draining my energy but I guess he doesn’t take it serious. When they decided to go home and finally left, I was breaking down only three minutes after. I cried and tried to make dinner at the same time because I only had a snack and I was hungry and exhausted.
He was angry with me for making them feel unwelcome, which I am truly sorry for. But I was exhausted. I was done. And I tried my best to hide all that.
For everyone out there: Please, take it serious when someone gets drained from social activities! It is no fun for any of us and really should be considered! Now I feel like I have to make it up to them because of the situation my boyfriend put me in without ever asking me.
