Hi there! Would you say it's safe to say Chace Crawford is a SC? He seems pretty balanced, and I thought loose clothes were never flattering on him.
damn that's such a good call, you are locked in tf it works in every way... his 5'10 height fits so neatly into the classic type range and we can rule out dramatic, FN, gamine and romantic through that as well. so it has to be SN, N or any C.
so yes, especially natural-fabric pants won't sit well on him at all. he has a very defined yin waist, i see rounded R-influenced shoulders so not dramatic classic, and his face is super symmetrical. like all soft classic and soft gamine guys, he easily has a "pretty man" factor.
i see parallels to cillian murphy. like chace he doesn't have extreme vertical either (his height is said to be between 5'7 to 5'9?), the shoulders don't have a yang edge; they both do the corporate style much better than the scruffy athletic natural wear & hair.
telltale sign: choppy strands have a terrible effect on soft classic men. how does it ruin their faces so intensely?? it's yet again proof that ugliness does not exist, just being out of kibbe harmony. look at how they massacred my boy cillian!
adding wave (yin) does the trick. midpart favored (symmetry!). next to soft dramatics, soft classic men are the 'prince' typecast incarnate.
hey! i saw that you were interested in fashion and styling and kibbe and i was wondering if you have thoughts on soobin and yeonjun switching outfits for the act sweet mirage finale soundcheck? i thought it was super interesting how the same outfits ended up having a completely different vibe when worn on different people! (this is all in good fun ofc, no shade to either member and they were such good sports for doing the switch)
Hi! omg thanks so much for this question!! I thought it was really cute and silly of them to switch entire outfits when they said they’d be styling each other for soundcheck. it’s so TXT 😂
As for the difference in vibes despite them wearing the exact same outfit, if we’re going by particular styling systems then Seasonal Color analysis and Kibbe typing come into play!
I just wanna preface this by saying that I while I do have an interest in Kibbe typing and styling as a whole but I’m not entirely sure what their Kibbe types are. I had some initial thoughts about sookai’s Kibbe types a few months back but haven’t really done a full-on analysis for any of them (though I’d really like to!! 🙈)
While I’m leaning towards Soft Dramatic (vertical + curve) for Soobin, I can’t pin down Yeonjun’s Kibbe type. But he might be a very slim Flamboyant Natural (vertical + width) in my eyes. Will try to expound on this a little bit later!
With all that aside, let’s try to break down their looks below the cut! Be forewarned that it's going to be lengthy bc of all the photos and side discussions 😅
omg! your typing of alicia vikander left me bamboozled. i thought she was FN. doesn't she have that squarish body shape that you mentioned models usually have? like, i agree that she looks more dainty than angelina but she still looks super athletic no 🤔
she does have a square torso but she looks tiny and small not athletic or model like. she is 168cms/5'6 inches but looks much smaller. she has relatively short limbs and a "petite frame" and very delicate features as well.
(L to R)
Marion Cotillard, Alicia Vikander, Olivia de Havilland, Laura Linney & Kirsten Dunst
All the above women (except Alicia ofc) are verified Soft Classics. You can tell how they all have delicate features and a harmonious yin-yang balance. No individual feature stands out but together everything looks harmonious.
she's not in the least athletic looking. which is why imo, she was horribly miscast as lara croft.
she looks like a ballerina (and she did study ballet for several years), very soft, very classic but has some yang to her although its not very pronounced.
also remember, having abs =/= to being athletic or being an FN
even when she's ripped, she still looks small and delicate tbh
there is no way in hell she could ever be FN
I also think her official height is an exaggeration and she's probably 5'4 irl
Accomplishment of the Day #2: Keep/Purge Decision Making
Starting like 2 weeks ago I started purging my closet. Guidelines for keep/purge SO FAR:
1) must actually be a flattering color
2) must actually be a flattering cut As for point 1, I'm basing my choices off of seasonal color analysis. I've analyzed this to death over the past few years, and am pretty sure my profile is deep autumn.
Execution: High contrast in features, overall olive leaning yellow undertone. Highly saturated color is preferable, and colors I wear need to have a yellow undertone over a blue undertone. If I wear white it should be stark white as an accent for other highly saturated colors. For chunky jewelry I stick to gold, and for delicate jewelry I stick to silver, but I don't mix the two. My dailywear jewelry defaults to gold. On point 2, the only system I know of is the Kibbe System. It's aimed at afab fem dressing individuals, which is only a portion of my presentation. In that system as far as I can tell I'd be categorized as a soft or dramatic classic type. It's given me a frame of how to emphasize my fem aspects when I want to, and some transferable aspects.
Execution: Moderately sized patterns, high contract, flowy light fabric, gentle definition where it already exists, don't add unnecessary angles, cut sweaters off right above the waist. Between those two things, I have a pretty good idea of what I should keep vs purge. Anything I have trouble judging based off memory or a glance I check in a mirror in as natural sunlight as possible. If the color is redeemable on me, I'll keep a small portion of the poor cuts to tailor. If it's a good cut but a poor color, I'll pass it along to someone it'll suit better.
I think I have maybe 4 large garbage bags so far of purged things. I probably have half to 2/3 of my closet left to go through.
I wanna reach the kibbe/essence/image identity side of tumblr hi
Effy’s style for Soft Classics
Hi everyone! Sorry this post has been so long overdue. If you missed the beginning of this series, you can find out what your type is here. Today we’re focused on soft classics for the anons who have requested it! This one is interesting because as an adult, I think Kaya Scodelario is actually a soft classic, which is why she no longer suits the same outfits she wore on the show (when she was still a teenager and so had a more elongated, dramatic body type).
When you compare images of her when she was on Skins to images of her now, you can see the difference.
When she was on Skins, she had a very long, narrow, angular look:
But when she wears the same type of outfits now, you can see they don’t suit her as well because she’s become more of an hourglass shape, with very balanced features but a little bit of softness:
So the first thing I want to say is that if you’re still a teenager, your body type might change as you grow, and that’s totally okay and normal.
Soft classics are a balance of softness and angularity, with slightly more softness. They are very symmetrical, with soft or rounded edges all around. They tend to have a proportionate bust, waist, and hips, with slightly short and soft arms and legs. Their facial features tend to be soft and full, with large eyes, soft cheeks, and full lips.
Examples of this type include Carolina Herrera, Catherine Deneuve, Catherine Oxenberg, Deborah Kerr, Donna Reed, Emma Thompson, Grace Kelly, Jessica Chastain, Joan Bennett, Joan Fontaine, Laura Linney, Lee Remick ,Marion Cotilliard, Meredith Baxter Birney, Merle Oberon, Meryl Streep, Naomi Watts, Norma Shearer, Olivia de Haviland, and Veronica Lake. I think that list probably also includes Megan Markle, Amber Rose, Emily Blunt, Rachel McAdams, Catherine Zeta Jones, Kirsten Dunst, and Leighton Meester.
In general, Soft Classics should look for clean and symmetrical silhouettes with waist emphasis, tapering or cropping around the ankles and wrists, and simple, soft, slightly rounded details. Clean, unbroken lines, smooth draping, and small gathers look great on this type. But Classic types also have a little bit more leeway in terms of borrowing elements from other looks, since they are so balanced.
Starting with dresses, Soft Classics should look for options that are graceful, flowing, and elegant. Flared shapes look great on this type, and waist definition is a must. Ruffles, slightly ornate details, and sparkly fabrics are good things to look for. Soft Classics want to avoid severely tailored dresses, ones that are wide and unconstructed, and ones that are fussy or flouncy.
A simple black dress like the one Marion Cotillard is wearing here can provide a great base for an edgy outfit. You can see that she has some slight ruching around the neckline, with a defined waist:
I also really love a bodycon dress like this one as a base for a Soft Classic outfit:
For an edgier look, this fit and flare leather dress is flattering on Soft Classic types because it has the flared skirt and defined waist:
To channel some of Effy’s more glam, series 4 looks, you could try dresses like the ones below. The sequins on the dress on the left provide some ornate detailing and sparkle, which is super flattering on Soft Classics, while the right has a mesh, which provides some edginess. For all of these, adding a big leather belt could help to provide more waist definition:
Small details like on this dress are great for a Soft Classic look:
I also really love this dress for an edgy Soft Classic look, since the defined, ruffled shoulders can read as edgy but without overwhelming a Soft Classic body.
A lightweight, flowing silk dress like this one (but in black) with a thick leather belt is a super flattering choice for Soft Classics, and can easily be made edgy with the right accessories:
For sweaters and shirts, look for options that are soft and smooth, short to moderate in lengths. Lightweight knits, cashmere, angora, and silk are all great fabrics. Avoid oversized or bulky tops, perky patterns, and thin ribbing.
Like with the dresses, I love a sheer or mesh top for an edgy Soft Classic look. They’re sexy and flattering and totally channel Effy’s series 4 looks:
I also love a velvet top option for this type, since it’s soft, smooth, and touchable, but can still be edgy:
Tops in lightweight fabrics like these are great for Soft Classics- for an “Effier” look, just look for the fabrics in black:
A ruffle neckline is also super flattering, and channels some of Effy’s more feminine looks:
For pants, look for softly tailored styles in lightweight fabrics. Soft pleats, tapered legs, and cropped hemlines are great for Soft Classics. Straight leg pants are your best friend. Man-tailored pants, deep pleats, or oversized/baggy pants aren’t as flattering on this type.
A small plaid can look really edgy on Soft Classics:
Of course, straight leg jeans are also great on this type:
For skirts, look for a-lines. This is great because when Effy wears skirts, typically that’s the cut they have. Leather is of course a great option, and if you can find one with some pleating, that will look super flattering.
For something super edgy, this kind of skirt would look great on a Soft Classic:
For hair, Soft Classics should go for looks that are controlled, smooth, and soft, with clean, symmetrical outlines. Curls and waves are great. Moderate to long will be the most flattering, with layers framing the face. The curly look Effy sometimes wears would be great for this type.
For makeup, opt for minimalistic looks. Anything too heavy will be overpowering on a Soft Classic’s delicate features. A soft, smokey eye is great for this type. Makeup looks should be rounded, accurate, and very blended. A glossy lip looks great on this type.
For shoes, look for delicate, tapered shapes and avoid chunky styles. You might think that these shoes look too delicate or simple for Effy’s look, but on a Soft Classic they’ll look edgier than they would on a more angular type, and heavier shoes might look out of place on you.
Hi caro hope you're doing great 🌺 this is Toby Wallace ad I think he's veeery cute . I do definitely see some width in the face and the limbs ( his body reminds me of Harry styles') I like him with his bouncy curls , more like way locks in the show " the society " ( not too long ) but not so much with the FG haircut , all choppy and partially shaved I think that's a no no . Also the dramatic makeup on his under-eyes makes him look sick and tired like he has a bad cold or smth . I absolutely love him in the simple black t-shirt , the plaid shirt also looks nice . He's 180cm , I think he might be a soft natural, what do you think ? ( the suits kind of hide him away ad his overall frame , also the oversized double breasted coat looks too big on him so definitely not a Flamboyant natural )
toby's exceedingly beautiful, some director better give this guy some traction! plus a proper stylist so he can dress his type, with all the cool toned palettes. grey is so good on him. 💞
now, while his wardrobe is very dramatic classic, he visibly leans yin, especially the face. so first i considered either soft gamine (toby looks way younger than 30 and has contrasting characteristics from many types?) or the romantics (heartthrob energy, fuller lips, rounder nose, long curls, YA appeal, teenage novel cover dream boy).
...but nope, he's far too tall for those IDs. and especially gamine styles are tackily over the top for him. because around 5'11, we have to cross out gamin and romantic. yes, G is fun, but out of proportion for him, and looks unlike toby wallace, but a character. yes, the harry effect. patterns and color pops clash here.
dots look much nicer and surprisingly serious on an actual gamine type (yoongi from bts, also a very yin face: but he does bright color and patterns like he invented it, as typical for G category men)
natural is meh for toby, sometimes nice, or okay, suitable, but not stellar. too much width, too much texture, too much fabric, it doesn't always do the trick. again, a character. soft natural is a possibility, but anything soft yang is hit or miss. i think it hides him sometimes. we see the garment first, not him. the face doesn't light up.
remember, jeans look otherworldly on actual natural types like gigi hadid. we can still see her face before the outfit. the wide shoulders sit in place. it's simple yet fantastic.
and then, as the only remaining yin subtype with vertical, soft dramatic. he never dresses SD so it's hard to tell. reasonably tall with a baby face, it'd work on paper. maybe i see many types in him because subtypes mix things up. feminine but structured, wide yet elongated, androgynous. (again, looking fly in cool tones below)
i figure that because everything feels boring on him, SD is worth looking into if we ever get him in a role like this. i'm curious how much glam he can handle. then again, pure D looks okay on SDs, but it's all boxy and oversized on him. an SD frame is bold enough for that. toby again drowns despite his height, paradoxically. angles don't do him justice at all, it distracts from his looks a lot 😒
so i compared him to SD bill skarsgard, the looming presence of an actual sharp yang frame. narrow, extremely tall, majestic, chiseled, mature and severe. the suit angles just sit where they should. no boxiness. no heartthrob cutiepie face. this is kibbe's most direct-looking, straight to business type, even with yin secondary.
going back to toby i realized he might not be cut out for the D/N type badassery nor the petite G/R-leaning types alike. i don't think he'd be a villain typecast like bill, at least if we go by movie stereotypes. so, it's the middle path plus yin. for SC we go as gentle and draped as we can, unobtrusive, minimal, and i think it's nice for him.
he does have the symmetrical face for a classic, and a frame that has some squarishness. i wish he'd wear waist emphasis once so we can confirm it. i do love him in basics. it's like we finally see his gorgeous face. toning it down always works for classics, and loosening up the fabric is subtle. soft colors like pastel are amazing.
