Submitters of Death say: "What a legend. He plays the contrabass clarinet. He just loves board games."
Submitters of Sonhearst say: "his quest for vengeance brought tears to my eyes."
Ok, so here's this Bathearst plushie I've been working on for like forever and I finally finished! Yay! The cape turned out a little bulky but that's ok because it's sort of stuck in a permanent dramatic billow.
If you would like to learn how to crochet, I recommend going to this blog or this youtube channel
What you need:
White and lilac yarn
Fiberfill
Scraps of black felt
A needle for putting it together (I use a big embroidery needle)
Some stiff cardboard
Something to use as a weight (I use a little rice sewed up in a scrap of fabric. Un-popped corn works well too)
Notes:
Read the whole pattern before starting. If you can't be bothered, at least read the "Head" and "Mask" sections so you know how they should fit together.
Gauge isn't important for this project, as long as you use a hook size that doesn't leave you with gaping holes. I use a 4.5mm (size 7/G) hook.
This is a fairly simple project. The only tricky part is the end of the cape and maybe the back part of the mask.
Numbers in ( ) at the end of each round indicate how many stitches should be in that round/row.
Continuous rounds are used, rounds are not joined at any point. This is just personal preference, it gives a smoother look.
Abbreviations!: Rnd = round(and row in the cape/mask sections), sc = single crochet, dec = decrease, st = stitch, ch = chain, slst = slip stitch, dc = double crochet, hdc = half double crochet, tc = triple crochet, qc = quadruple crochet
Head: in white
Rnd 1: 6 sc in magic circle (6)
Rnd 2: 2 sc in each sc around (12)
Rnd 3: sc in next sc, 2 sc in next sc around (18)
Rnd 4: sc in next 2 sc, 2 sc in next sc around (24)
Rnd 5: sc in next 3 sc, 2 sc in next sc around (30)
Rnd 6: sc in next 4 sc, 2 sc in next sc around (36)
Rnd 7: sc in next 5 sc, 2 sc in next around (42)
Rnd 8-12: sc in each sc around (42)
Rnd 13: sc in next 5 sc, dec over next 2 sc around (36)
Rnd 14: sc in next 4 sc, dec over next 2 sc around (30)
Rnd 15: sc in next 3 sc, dec over next 2 sc around (24)
Rnd 16: sc in next 2 sc, dec over next 2 sc around (18) (you'll want to stuff it around here)
Rnd 17: sc in next sc, dec over next 2 sc around (12)
Rnd 18: dec over next 2 sc around (6)
Fasten off, making sure the top is closed. Secure magic circle (if you used it).
Body: in white
Rnd 1: 6 sc in magic circle (6)
Rnd 2: 2 sc in each sc around (12)
Rnd 3: sc in next sc, 2 sc in next sc around (18)
Rnd 4: sc in next 2 sc, 2 sc in next sc around (24)
Rnd 5: sc in next 3 sc, 2 sc in next sc around (30)
Rnd 6-21: sc in each sc around (30)
Fasten off. Get a small disc of carboard, just big enough to fit in the bottom of the body and stick it in there. This way Bathearst will have a base to stand on. You'll want to put a small weight in here too since he ends up quite top-heavy. Stuff the body and secure the magic circle (if you used it), leaving the top open. You could stop here if you just want Sonhearst.
Bat-mask: in lilac
Rnd 1: 6 sc in magic ring (6)
Rnd 2: 2 sc in each sc around (12)
Rnd 3: sc in next sc, 2 sc in next sc around (18)
Rnd 4: sc in next 2 sc, 2 sc in next sc around (24)
Rnd 5: sc in next 3 sc, 2 sc in next sc around (30)
Rnd 6: sc in next 4 sc, 2 sc in next sc around (36)
Rnd 7: sc in next 5 sc, 2 sc in next sc around (42)
Rnd 8-13: sc in each sc around (42)
Rnd 14: sc in next 21 sc. STOP. Do not ch 1, turn. (21)
Rnd 15: sc in next 5 sc, dec over next 2 sc across. Turn. (18)
Rnd 16: sc in next 4 sc, dec over next 2 sc across. Turn. (15)
Rnd 17: sc in next 3 sc, dec over next 2 sc across. Turn. (12)
Rnd 18: sc in next 2 sc, dec over next 2 sc across. Fasten off. (8)
Fit the mask over the head to see if it fits. It should easily fit over the head without being too lose. The back part should come down to the neck area where the head and body join.
Ears (Make 2): in lilac
Rnd 1: 4 sc in magic circle (4)
Rnd 2: sc in next sc, 2 sc in next sc around. (6)
Rnd 3: sc in next 2 sc, 2 sc in next sc around. (8)
Rnd 4: sc in next 3 sc, 2 sc in next sc around. (10)
Rnd 5: sc in next 4 sc. 2 sc in next sc around. (12)
Rnd 6: sc in next 5 sc, 2 sc in next sc around. (14)
Rnd 7: sc in next 6 sc, 2 sc in next sc around. (16)
Stuff lightly (optional) and sew to mask.
Cape: in lilac
Rnd 1: Ch 16, sc in second chain from hook. sc in each chain across. ch 1 and turn. (15)
Rnd 2: sc in next 5 sc, 2 sc in next sc across. ch 1, turn. (18)
Rnd 3: sc in next 6 sc, 2 sc in next sc across. ch 1, turn. (21)
Rnd 4: sc in next 7 sc, 2 sc in next sc across. ch 1, turn. (24)
Rnd 5: sc in next 8 sc, 2 sc in next sc across. ch 1, turn. (27)
Rnd 6: sc in next 9 sc, 2 sc in next sc across. ch 1, turn. (30)
Rnd 7: sc in next 10 sc, 2 sc in next sc across. ch 1, turn. (33)
Rnd 8: sc in next 11 sc, 2 sc in next sc across. ch 1, turn. (36)
Rnd 9: sc in next 12 sc, 2 sc in next sc across. ch 1, turn. (39)
Rnd 10: sc in next 13 sc, 2 sc in next sc across. ch 1, turn. (42)
Rnd 11: sc in next 14 sc, 2 sc in next sc across. ch 1, turn. (45)
Rnd 12: sc in next 15 sc, 2 sc in next sc across. ch 1, turn. (48)
Rnd 13: sc in next 16 sc, 2 sc in next sc across. ch 1, turn. (51)
Rnd 14: sc in next 17 sc, 2 sc in next sc across. ch 1, turn. (54)
Rnd 15: sc in next 18 sc, 2 sc in next sc across. ch 1, turn. (57)
Rnd 16: sc in next 19 sc, 2 sc in next sc across. ch 1, turn. (60)
Rnd 17: sc in next 20 sc, 2 sc in next sc across. ch 1, turn. (63)
Rnd 18: ch 4, qc in next sc, tc in next sc, dc in next sc, hdc in next sc, sc in next sc, (slst in next sc. sc in next sc, hdc in next sc, dc in next sc, tc in next sc, qc in next sc, tc in next sc, dc in next sc, hdc in next sc, sc in next sc.) Repeat bracket section until last qc. ch 4, skip one sc and slst in the last sc.
Rnd 19: slst in every ch and st across.
You may also want to slst along the sides of the cape to make it look a little tidier.
Assembly:
Sew the head to the body. Sew the cape to the bottom of the mask. Cut eyes out of black felt and sew or glue them to the mask in the appropriate places.
Sew the mask to the head. Alternatively, you could leave the mask loose, add eyes to the head under the mask and have a TRANSFORMING SONHEARST/BATHEARST PLUSHIE.
Finally, cut the mouth out of black felt and sew or glue on OR embroider the mouth with black thread/wool.
Well, Bathearst is a busy kid, what with always fightin' the scum of the streets outside the law, so i mean, he was nice enough to send me a commem'rative shot glass but he don't have time to call his dad a whole lot.
And Wifehearst, well, i mean... I'm sure you heard what...
