Ruth
Ruth paces anxiously in the booth as she hears the sound of people coming into the auditorium below. Oh God, her anxiety.
She takes several shaky shallow breaths, trying to calm herself down so she doesn't vomit all over the soundboard.
It's okay, she tries to tell herself, it'll be fine. She's done tech for several shows. This is nothing new.
Still the idea of screwing up, of the actors and the director getting mad at her, of people leaving the show thinking it was lousy-
The headset she's wearing crackles to life. "Five minutes. Ruth, you ready?"
"I guess."

"How'd everything go?" Emma asks as she sets down her suitcase in the living room of her apartment.
"Great!" Paul says enthusiastically. "I got your mail, I cleaned, I watered your plant, I-"
Emma blinks. "Wait, what?" She questions in confusion.
He gestures to the large ceramic plant pot in the corner, the leaves of the plant spilling over the sides. "Your plant. I watered it. You forgot to put it in your instructions-"
Her laughter cuts him off. When she finally regains her composure, she grins at him, her eyes full of unshed tears. "Paul, that's a fake plant."

“Do you believe in ghosts?”
Ethan jumps, hitting his head on the hood of the car he was working on. “Jesus Christ, Banana, don’t sneak up on a guy when he’s under the hood!” He stands up, rubbing the back of his head. “What did you say?”
“I asked if you believe in ghosts,” Hannah repeats, her expression staying solemn.
Frowning, Ethan answers, “Why you askin’ that, kid?”
“Cause I saw one. At the store.” Hannah says simply. She tugs down her hat a little lower. “At least, I think he was a ghost. He tried giving me an apple.”

"You know koalas aren't bears?" Pete asks, glancing over at Steph. His fingers tap against his thigh anxiously.
Steph blinks. "What do you mean? They're called koala bears." She tilts her head. "What are they then?"
"They're marsupials, so they have a pouch," Pete explains, trying to keep the grin off his face. He takes a deep breath. "So I guess you could say when it comes to bears, they don't meet the koala-fications."
A wave of giggles washes over Steph. "You fucking nerd," She says lovingly before grabbing Pete by his suspenders and pulling him in for a kiss.

Xander winces, stretching to try to relieve the tightness around his chest. He's been wearing his binder all day and it's starting to get uncomfortable.
"I don't know why you don't get top surgery," John comments, not looking up from the papers he's studying. "The government will pay for it."
Of course John knew what was wrong. Shaking his head, Xander replies, "Recoup time, John. I can't miss any work. I'm the best agent you've got."
With a smile, John finally looks up from his papers. "Can't argue that. Still, you know binding for long periods isn't good."
"I know."

“Tick tock, Mac,” Tinky says with a gleeful grin, “Are you going to be able to save him?”
John looks over at the giant hourglass. Wiley stands inside of it as sand trickles down. “There’s no reason for me to save him,” he tells Tinky firmly, “Wilbur Cross is dead and gone. Why should I risk my life to try to save your agent?”
“John! John, please!” Wiley’s hands bang against the glass.
Trying to ignore how much he sounds like the normal Wilbur, John doesn’t look away from the eldritch being. “I’m not falling into your trap, T’noy Karaxis.”

The smell of popcorn fills the apartment. Paul readies a bowl before listening for the timer.
“Hey, will you put some extra butter on that?” Emma requests from the living room.
Paul pulls a face. Not that she can see. “That is so unhealthy, Emma.”
He hears her snort. “We’re having microwave popcorn and leftover Halloween candy, Paul. We’re not exactly the image of health.”
“Still.”
The timer goes off and he pulls the bag of popcorn out of the microwave. “...how much extra butter?” he calls as he dumps the bag into the bowl.
Emma’s laugh makes him grin.
