Honestly, HR is the first fandom I've been in (including 9-1-1, with all its beefiness on display) that made me want to go to the gym xD I've said it before and I'll say it again, the terrifying "gay agenda" is clearly just promoting sports. And I'm here for it. Give me pussy and give me a bodycombat class, I'm in.
Painted in good, quiet company of another enthusiast.
Went to a painting workshop in my community center (love thst place!) and the theme was modern art. Since I was 45 minutes late (because time is unknowable and my eternal foe), I wanted to make something simple. I ended up with something resembling pop-art. I'm quite happy with it.
Fucking with depression by painting flowers of all kinds. That asshole always comes back, and this time I'm fighting back with paints and brushes, new and old, to remind myself that depressive episodes don't actually last forever.
Why, yes, ladies, gents, and all the folks who don't fuck with gender, it IS much easier to say that on tumblr than out loud.

Thinking about Zoreaux losing his mind when the Hollanov FanMail video gets leaked and the AFC Richmond dressing room is like uh bit homophobic there, mate 😕
And he has to explain that he doesn't care if they're gay or whatever and obviously them getting outed is awful, but why did his boy Shane Hollander have to pick Rozanov.
He's trying to explain the rivalry in football terms when someone chimes in like didn't he already come out a few years ago? Kissed his fella on the ice?
(Not every day that a professional male athlete pulls a move like that, especially after a championship — of course they'd heard about it.)
And then Zoreaux nearly has a heart attack that someone confused Scott Hunter and Shane Hollander and Beard has to step in and explain hockey to everyone while Zoreaux recovers.
When I woke up this morning I had no idea I'd end up needing Ted Lasso/Heated Rivalry crossovers as much as I seem to now.
The chaos. The fun. The unhinged communication those crossovers would bring about.
Where did I leave my ao3 tab swamp again...?
In my very subjective, extremely biased opinion, The Starless Sea is a cure to the hangover of living in this timeline.
The bias stems from the sheer delight that's still clinging to my soul (do please note I'm valiantly refraining from saying "like honey to a spoon").
When I first hit "play" on the audiobook in my native tongue I didn't really expect anything but a famtasy novel about books. Half an hour in, I was in love. As soon as I finished listening, I started again, this time in English.
It's difficult to describe without just sharing my impressions. There are plenty books that read like a Rubik's cube, you try and put the elements together to get that lovely moment of clarity when you figure out the point. This one? Reads like a puzzle done entirely in watercolours. The images shift and stay the same, depending on the light and your point of view. Yet, they remain true. And not true.
In fact, The Starless Sea would make the loveliest animation. I can't imagine it being filmed, but animated? Absolutely.
The thing that hit me straight underneath my ribs was this one line about spirituality that echoed my experience exactly, along with Mirabel describing the weather as "so poetry". Sometimes I bite my tongue before I say something like "today feels like wildflowers blooming on concrete, I wonder which will survive?" because I'm just tired of getting the "wtf do you mean" stare. Having a character express themselves similarly was a treat.
The Starless Sea gave me Mirabel and her "so poetry" comments, wading through fairy tales, symbols and recurring elements sprouting all over the pages, labyrinths of imagination, three love stories, and the beauty of endings and beginnigs, beginnings and endings, and how they exist and mean the same thing.
I'm still a little dazed and entirely charmed. I wonder if I will still feel that in the third reading.

Oh, agreed. The other way round? I think Ilya would go the Orpheus way, run right down to the kingdom of the dead and try to bring his boy back. But Shane - absolutely darkest, nastiest spells.
Less than 4 minutes into 9x15 and I already hate it. I mentioned before that I don't enjoy shitting on popculture just because I don't like a plotline, but there is something screaming in me at seeing Buck on opioids.
I've always had a thing about drugs on TV. I can't watch it. I just can't. Same with books. One time, about twenty years ago, I forced myself to watch Trainspotting, and I still feel nauseous just thinking about it. I don't quite know where this reaction came from, but it's been there as long as I can remeber. To be clear - I'm middle-aged (so I might start forgetting things soon anyway ;p).
What I'm trying to say is this isn't a moral objection, the problem with addiction is so fucking complex and I'm not hating on addicts here - that doesn't solve anything. While I don't think I know any drug addicts, I'm all too familiar with alcoholics. So I'm not just clutching my pearls over my fictional son suddenly developing a dependency. I can also see how it's supposed to mirror Bobby within the narrative, show loss and grief. Or maybe I overidentify with a lot of Buck's avoidant and secretive behaviour so it's difficult for me not to take this particular storyline a little too personally.
But I just felt so sick looking at Buck so strung out. So I hit "pause" and am now ranting on tumblr.
So, dear tumblr, is it okay if I skip this episode and just look up a summary? Can someone tell me if I will have to suffer through a new addiction storyline and watch Buck spiralling? I don't even care for spoilers much, just give it to me straight.

I spend so much time scrolling through Heated Rivalry fanart on Pinterest (that's right, I am, in fact, old), that the algorythym switched from pushing ads for dresses, plants, and home decor to sportswear and running shoes.
Honestly, I'm surprised it's not lube and men's underwear xD
I see that Buddie side of tumblr is going happily nuts over the singing in the car stills. (I love this place, not gonna lie. The pure joy of fandom nuttiness should be protected at all costs and/or possibly sold in colorful pills, with proceeds going to ao3 upkeep.)
The Buddie masses have also confirmed my theory that 9-1-1 is trying to condition us into thinking redheads are evil because I've been scrolling for half an hour and am yet to find a post saying anything other than "waitress sus, clearly the kindnappingest of all" xD
Okay, I usually read fics when the source material needs some help. Like if there's a pairing in subtext (or text - looking at you, Buddie, "would it be so crazy", dear gods of tv writng, put us out of our misery, please). Or if the pairing that's canon NEEDS SAVING from the source material (Beth and Rio, Brienne and Jaime). Sometimes just because it's fun, even if it's hardly there in the original (Sterek).
Yet with Heated Rivalry, there is nothing I would change, not with the books, not with the show. Nothing at all. They give you everything you might need. Theoretically.
So when I noticed a Buddie writer I like wrote a hollanov fic, I just wated to read one. Seriously, one. I was curious xD
Two weeks later I'm ao3 feral, diving in daily for more like a mad truffle pig in a forest and now I know how I will die. Head first in fanfic, real life forgotten. Who needs sustenance when you can have one more scene of Ilya doing heart eyes at Shane or Shane torturing himself with being in love?
I don't know what Heated Rivalry and related fandom media are serving, but if it came in pill form it would definitely be illegal.

you know what pisses me off about last ep that i only now can articulate better than "DID THEY NOT TEACH HIM BASIC SAFETY" in mine and sarahs chat its that this is very much an ignore preestablished character traits to push plot type thing like chris is established to be a very smart kid so yeah would know better than to get in the car of someone he met once, more than that hes also established to be a very perceptive intuitive and emotionally intelligent kid so if the audience and eddie already felt unsettled at the dinner scene chris wouldnt then go in the car with her, also more than that we know eddies a deeply anxious person who is established to be overprotective- youre telling me he never drilled basic safety shit like 'it doesnt matter if its someone you know unless i said theyre picking u up you dont listen and you call me' like this is shit you teach actual children nevermind a wholeass 15 (?) year old (also sidenote that this is a latino household mate that lecture was engrained at 5 years old) the worst part is they didnt even have to do this betrayal of character traits to have the same plot - you couldve had abigail make a threat toward his dad or say there was an accident or something which would ACTUALLY make sense for a teen to panic and go against their safety teachings and get in the car can yall tell nothing annoys me more than ooc writing
Omg, yeeeeeessss. The last two episodes feel so sloppy in that regard. As the target audience, I feel the need to tell the writers to please check out the source material, because clearly we're more familiar with it than they are.
Reading hollanov fics on ao3 is a challenge because of the sheer incoming amount - every time I come back to where I think I was, the number shifts and I end up needeing to look for the page I was on. Clearly, I need to refine my usual filters xD
I'm super impressed with this turnaround, the fandom love is written all over the place and it's making me feel warm and fuzzy in my geeky places <3
Okay, so, 9x08. Do brace for a rant.
While I do think Chim's handling of firing Hen was incindiary enough to put their whole relationship on fire AND spread to the rest of the family... are you telling us that ONE (1!) hospital visit was enough to figure out Hen's condition? Which, if done by Hen from the start, would have avoided the whole conflict and saved the poor woman months of stress and tons of money in quack clinic bullshit treatments?
Really? Is this a hole in the script that we're expected to jump over now? Amazing.
And also, speaking of plot holes the size of California... The lady who was in an accident where a teenager died because of a mechanical malfunction and felt responsible and traumatized? The lady who wanted to be a doctor to help even more people than as a paramedic? The lady who quit that dream to love her family better? The lady who still makes sacrifices in the name of serving the public?
That lady says "fuck it, lol, if I faint, I faint, but you ain't getting me off this job cause y'all not asking me how I am enough"??? What the fuck?
Did the writers not watch this show before? I mean, come on, no narrative "smart girl pitfalls" make sense here, especiaply since in the end they don't frame it like that, they frame it as a protective instinct stemming from grief.
My inner teacher can SMELL the writers didn't do their homework. Man, I'm so annoyed by this that I can't even talk about Buddie.
