Allow me my two cents on the season 5 finale (which, I guess, technically, could/should be the shows finale, but capitalism wins):

For a 5 season build up, not only was the Gabriel Agreste problem solved too quickly, but also in a very cliché and not worth it way. And I love clichés, mind you. But there's a proper way to do them and this ain't it, chief

Did they actually give Gabe an easy way out both regarding his crimes and regarding the supposed audience perspective by having him sacrificing himself to bring his wife back? Yes. Yes, they did. And that COULD work. If it was better worked and Gabriel hadn't betrayed Marinette's trust 3 seconds previously.

I have way too many thoughts about this and I will most probably organize them and write a proper script for a video review, but, long story short: for someone who followed this show since it aired and only gave it a break half way through season 5 cause the show got extremely nonsensical, this finale and Gabriel resolution feels like an (extremely) unsatisfying conclusion

There are fanfics out there with a more logical and satisfying - even if filled with clichés, who are NOT a problem - endings for this exact conflict.

A lot of things annoyed me about it (the pace and rushed pardoning, mainly) but the fact they actually managed to physically write Adrien/Chat Noir off from the final fight and keep him ignorant of his father's identity and actions - with Marinette's support to keep up the facade - only shows that Chat Noir was never an equal to Ladybug in any sense of the way. This was 'Miraculous: The Adventures of Ladybug and Cat Noir' for...what? 2 seasons? But from season 3 onward, it became 'Miraculous Ladybug' without Chat Noir being on her level indeed

Adrien was demoted to side character with main plot points privileges. He became a prop, both to Gabriel and Marinette and even the writers themselves. His value in the story was not his, but connected to Gabriel and his mum. And, there ya go, the finale only proves that black on the white: the final fight that concluded Gabe's arch had Marinette handling the whole fighting by herself with no direct need from her FIGHTING PARTNER since she can hold both Miraculous just fine with no consequences whatsoever (I mean, why not write Chat Noir off from the plot completely since season 1 and have Marinette just be the holder of both kwamis from the beginning if this was your goal, Astruc? For character 'growth'? What growth? We all can see how shite you are at grasping the meaning of such a concept), and Adrien was only present when being mentioned verbally between the two. And he was not only mentioned, but he was one of - if not THE - focal point of Marinette and Gabriel's verbal fight. Because Adrien isn't a character in this story, he is a plot point.

I haven't watched season 6 yet and my blabbering might get tossed in the trash quickly, but I can see Chat Noir being just another hero in Ladybug's team like the other teens instead of her power-opposite. Both Plagg and Tikki are the most powerful miraculous in existence. Not only Tikki: Plagg AND Tikki. So having Chat Noir stuck to the sea of heroes instead of in the wheel with Ladybug is...well, quite insulting. If I was Plagg, I would pull a 'Dinossaur Instiction" 2.0 for the disrespect alone.

And Marinette actually covering for Gabriel and have Adrien believe the dude was botherline a hero and not a maniac? That's dangerous for Marinette and Adrien's relationship, if nothing else. Because now there's a foundation of deceit in it, and it's not some basic white lie, it's a major lie that can shift Adrien's perception not only towards his father dramatically, but also towards Marinette for keeping the truth from him. On a realistic level, no relationship would survive such a lie, and Marinette is highkey dooming it and any trace of friendship Adrien might hold towards her if/when he finds out the truth.

Alas, as I said: too many thoughts. Too little organization for now

In a final less important note: funny how Paris made a statue for Gabriel during a time in real life when people were tossing down and destroying statues of bad guys that history tried to portray as good guys. The irony was not lost on me.

I'm not against dubs.

Hell, I find it funnier to watch Yuri on Ice with the english dub than the original.

No japanese will get to the knees of the European Portuguese Yu-Gi-Oh dub...Or the European Portuguese Mermaid Melody dub...Or the European Portuguese Fairy Tail dub that made me fall in love with Gray.

And, boy, don't get me started on the English Black Butler dub. Sebastian could do things to me.

Dubs are fine. I don't understand the 'original dub' fundamentalists. Like, yeah, some context is lost between translations and adaptations and that's one of the reasons why I always like to check the original language first/eventually BUT some people just find it dificult to read subtitles. Or their brains start to itch with the japanese inflection (which is normal. That happens to me with Chinese as well so I get it. That's why I only watch Mo Dao Zu Shi in the English dub). And other people just...ya know, like dubs. Can we all just be friends and enjoy the shows? Good? Good.

I'm watching 'My Happy Marriage', yeah? I've got it in the background as I work on some comissions so I'm watching it in the English dub to multitask and whatnot and...my friends...This is Netflix, yes? With Netflix, usually, you expect things to have quality control and some level of...idk...finesse? (Says the bloke that has seen spanish words in portuguese subtitles AHAHAH PLEASE HIRE ME NETFLIX I AM A PROFESSIONAL TRANSLATOR AND SUBTITLER I WILL FIX THAT SHITHE FOR YA I SWEAR). Then WHY. WHY is the English dub for this show so bad?

And it's not the whole show, mind you. Most of the voice actors are absolutely fine. They are great even. But the gal that voices the main character? Nothing against the lass, but Jesus Christ. I get it. Miyo isn't confident and has a lot of insecurities but does she really need to speak like she's the most shy creature to ever step on this planet? The woman sounds hella fine in Japanese, so why the bloody heavens this choice for English? And there are some lines that are just...completely butchered. I'm sure the lovely voice actor who voices her in english wouldn't mind sitting in the recording studio for a few more hours to correct the lines she delivers with the most annoying and obnoxious inflection.

In the end of the day, I don't believe this problem to be the voice actor's, but the guy that's supposed to be directing and the quality control people. You can be the most brilliant actor, but if the lines and the directing they give you are shite, your work will be shite.

Just...She's the one that speaks the most cause she's the MC and listening to her voice is already not great, but when she absolutely misses the inflection it legit makes me stop my work and come complain on Tumblr and that's stupid.
