Keeping with my theme of "rebuilding my art skill" resolution for 2024 (i havent drawn in almost two years), I bought myself new sketchbooks and some quality pencils. I've never worked with toned paper before, so I decided to test it out with the origin gang's eyes.
Wyll's eyes wound up too far apart. Also, because of the dark sclera and the flatness of the stone, they are remarkably hard for me to draw.
Shadowheart's eyes wound up a little too round/big.
This paper does not allow for blending. I'm so used to blending my charcoal, especially for skin tones other than pale. I also need more practice with skin tones other than pale.
Wyll's skin also wound up too pale. I'm going to blame part my skill, part my lack of a soft charcoal to make the true blacks of his eyes dark enough, part the paper's inability to blend.
I love being able to create white highlights instead of having to keep them blank.
Things about the actual characters I noticed
Shadowheart somehow has mascara on? Where is she sourcing mascara in a pseudo Renaissance world?
Astarion has such long, beautiful eyelashes. Wyll does too, but Astarion's stand out more because he has white sclera.
Lae’zel's eyes are actually stunning. I did not do them justice.
Karlach has the most beautiful face. She is gorgeous.
Gale's eyes have a lot of expressions that are easy to draw. Especially variants of "stoplickingthedamnthing!".
