seri play Cinderella by Mac Miller ! 𑣲
it was nearing dark in the city of New York, but the city and sidewalks stayed busy with people. You were one of those people, embracing the fall weather as you walked around covered in a coat and scarf you knitted yourself a while ago.
Music played through your ears as you walked, a content smile on your lips as you admired what autumn had to offer you. Oh, and the cake you held that you bought from a nearby cake shop.
Because it was finally the day you’d been waiting for.
Your boyfriend’s birthday.
You and Jungkook had been together for three years now, and you couldn’t have been happier. He was kind, passionate, funny but gentle. He was everything you wanted in a guy, and you were everything he wanted in a girl.
You had been so excited to plan for his birthday, because he always made your birthdays so special, always made sure the day was about you and nobody else. And you wanted to try and do the same.
You looked down at the cake, smiling at the different details you had done for it. It was a round vanilla cake with chocolate frosting, with the words “happy birthday koo!” written across it. You were so happy with how it came out, you couldn’t wait to give it to him—and a few other gifts you had gotten him over the last few weeks without him knowing.
Today he was on one of his “patrol days”. Ever since he revealed himself to the city of New York as Spiderman, that’s how he spent most of his days—either that or his other part time job as a photographer.
So unlike the times you wished he wasn’t working so hard or so often as the hidden vigilante hero around the city, you were thankful for him being so busy today.
Now you were only a few minutes away from Jungkook’s apartment so you could get everything set up, the excitement buzzing within you only growing.
Until it wasn’t.
All of a sudden, you hear panicked screams around you, everything turning into complete chaos. People around scared as they ran the opposite direction of you. You stopped walking, growing panicked yourself as you tried to look around for the source of danger.
Then you hear it, the evilest of laughs from a man from above on some kind of glider—throwing bombs all around the city. You gasped, eyes widening as you run in the direction everyone else was going in, trying your best to protect your boyfriend’s cake in your arms.
But it was useless, everything happened so fast. One minute you were running for your life? Your feet having a mind of their own. And now you’re being swiftly lifted off the ground, the cake falling from your grasp. Your screams filled the air the higher you got, remembering your sudden fear of heights—and that fear was only being further triggered.
The man on the glider, his greenish suit sickening to the eye—and his mask that much scarier to look at. His grip was on tight on you, not thinking of letting you go as he flew over the city. But suddenly he stopped, hovering in the air as he made you face him.
Norman. Norman Osborn. The man who was put in prison years ago, but somehow managed to escape today.
“Why hello there. Must feel lucky that I chose you of all the little people below”, he chuckled creepily.
“P-Please let me go”, your voice shook with fear, your body trembling from how high in the air you were. You looked down, your heart beating rapidly in your chest from how small everything looked. “Please sir”, you begged once more.
Annoyed by your begging, his hand grabbed harshly at your throat, gripping it tightly to cut off your air circulation. You began choking, tears streaming heavily down your face as you tried to pry his grip off—but nothing was working.
His anger now coming to surface, he brought you closer to look him in his devilish eyes.
“You want me to let you go?” He asked. He then held you out into the air by your throat, your feet dangling in the air.
“No, please”, you croaked out.
And in a blink, he lets you go. His grip loosened from you completely, and now you were falling. You screamed, and all you could hear was wind. Your hands moved around frantically, trying to reach for something, anything—even if there wasn’t anything to reach for at all.
This couldn’t be the end could it? That’s all you could think as you were nearing the ground, people from below watching you with horror. Police cars and Ambulance trucks filled the streets, not sure what they could in that moment to save you.
You closed your eyes tight, praying over and over for some sort of miracle.
And maybe in this case, miracles were real.
Suddenly, you feel arms wrap around you as your swooped up and back into the air—just a few feet away from hitting the ground.
You gasp, quickly opening your glossy eyes. You see city buildings around you, people from below—and then you finally see him. Your boyfriend, in his red and blue spandex suit as he swung you through the streets.
“Your okay baby just breathe for me, breathe”, Jungkook reminded you, grunting as he shot another web out to swing.
You tried to do as he said but it was hard, everything was happening so quickly, you were just falling to your death a few minutes ago.
“Koo”, you whimper, nuzzling your face into his neck as you try to breathe and calm yourself down.
Hearing how overwhelmed you were only broke Jungkook’s heart even more.
“I know princess I know, I’m here and you’re safe. We’re heading to your apartment now”, he reassured, his voice a bit muffled because of his mask but you were able to hear him.
His voice was only thing keeping you from fully sobbing in his hold, and you couldn’t wait to be home.
—
You were pretty sure you blacked out the rest of the way home.
You wake up, your eyes a bit swollen from crying moments before. You realize you’re in your room, the decorations and bedding familiar to you. And then you feel something else familiar, more firm but gentle. Your head was resting on Jungkook’s chest, his hand running through your hair mindlessly. He was half-asleep at best, but still aware of his surroundings from earlier events—like his body was still in “spidey mode”.
“Koo”, your raspy voice mustered. Jungkook lifted his head when he heard your voice, his eyes meeting yours. They immediately soften “hey, baby. You okay?” he asked, always wanting to make sure your okay before anything else.
“Mhm” you barely nod. “What happened? I feel like I blacked out”.
“That’s because you did”. Jungkook chuckled. “Halfway through the way here, I was able to get you into bed though so you could properly rest. You were asleep for a while, 3 hours to be exact”.
“Oh”, you lift your head to look towards your bedroom window, seeing it was now dark outside and the moon had finally replaced the sun. “That makes sense. Did you take of that…that flying elf guy?”
Jungkook couldn’t help but laugh at the way you described Norman, who was also known as “The Green Goblin”.
“Yes, I went and help the cops take care of him shortly after making sure you were comfortable enough until I came back. I’ve been lying here ever since….and watching you sleep since I’m still a bit paranoid”.
You giggle. “I’m okay I promise. He’s back in prison anyway”.
“Yeah but”, Jungkook sighs. “I wish I had been there sooner. If I hadn’t shown up when I did-”
“But you did, and I’m okay”, you interrupt softly.
“But-”
“Kook”, you warned him, gentle but firm. “I’m okay, I promise. You got there when you needed to and that’s all that matters”.
“Fine”. Jungkook’s huffs rather endearingly, knowing he wouldn’t win this with you. “Today was insane, didn’t think I would have to safe my own girlfriend from danger on my birthday of all days”.
Your face dropped.
His birthday.
You suddenly lift yourself completely from your boyfriend’s chest, looking at him with wide eyes.
“Your birthday”, you say, stunned and your brain scrambling. “Oh my god, your cake—it’s ruined now”, you groan, falling back into his chest.
Jungkook looks down at you with fondness but also a hint of confusion. “You got me a cake today, love?”
“Yes!” you exclaim, sitting up once more. “And it was the perfect cake! It was vanilla flavored with chocolate frosting and it even had your name on it”, you pout, feeling tears start to surface in your eyes. Jungkooks brows furrow, noticing how worked up you were getting. “Hey baby-”,
“You always make my birthdays so special, koo”, you whimper, your eyes becoming glossier. “And I just wanted to do the same for you”.
Jungkook’s face completely softens, and so does his heart.
“Oh sweetheart”, he brings you into his arms, bringing both legs on either side of him so you could straddle him perfectly. You wrap your arms around his neck, nuzzling your face there as you sniffled and cried.
“Lovie you’ve always made my birthdays special, just by you simply being here makes it special”.
You bring your face from his neck, looking him in the eyes with your watery ones. “Really?”
Jungkook nods, grinning. “Every year, sweet girl. I don’t need gifts or a birthday cake, I just need you, that’s the only gift I’ll ever want”.
His words only made you cry harder, burying yourself back into his neck. He chuckled fondly, wrapping his arms around you as he brought you closer.
But he had meant every word. He didn’t need fancy gifts or a cake with lit candles for you to prove your love to him. Because he knew your love was unconditional, and so was his.
Even though you two did end up going to get a new cake for him because you did feel bad the other one got ruined from the Green Goblin fiasco, he enjoyed it regardless.
He wouldn’t have wanted to have his birthday any other way.
