au designs for blumiere and timpani 🖤🦋

following the events of super paper mario, blumiere was divinely ordained by grambi and jaydes to atone for his crimes by looking after the descendants of the tribe of darkness and the tribe of ancients, the tribes having reunified into one kingdom (known today as the eclipse kingdom) following the passage of time and the millennium of separation between the fated lovers.

they now rule the eclipse kingdom together as monarchs, with timpani having made the choice to stay by his side out of love despite no obligation to carry the same weight he does. their relationship is by no means perfect, but it’s a love that’s still beautiful and true despite its flaws.

something i always thought about regarding spm is consequences that blumiere would face following his redemption, since even though he was redeemed the fact remains he still committed many crimes which he should be held accountable for

this combined with my opinion that it’s simply unrealistic and boring for a couple with such a complicated and tragic past to have a perfect and flawless ending made me come up with the idea that, as his retribution, he’d need to look after his people

(if you headcanon he was the heir/future chief of the tribe of darkness like i do, it’s safe to assume he never wanted leadership in the first place, which is why i thought this was an ideal form of retribution for him despite the fact that becoming royalty would sound like a reward for most people)

i dont really remember when i first came up with it, but i just thought it was an interesting and novel concept for them

i’ll elaborate more on their individual characters and lore (as well as certain appearance choices i’m sure stand out) in a later post, but for now i just wanted to introduce what i have going on

they have four children which i will introduce tomorrow after letting this post marinate for a little bit 🖤🦋

Lord Blumiere had long since thought Dimentio as dead after their last encounter and isn't to happy upon seeing The Jester alive and well in Necromourn...

This was a redraw of an older piece i did a long time ago where those two reunited albeit unwillingly in the post spm au...

the only design we aren't completely happy with is demyan (the dark blue one at the end of the drawing). it doesn't really look like what we were going for, but maybe it just needs to grow on us...

below the cut are some doodles of how they look outside of headspace while fronting, although the differences aren't always so obvious since they attempt to mask as being a singular person... plus extra yapping about their thoughts on other characters

they'd all have different favorites in terms of people :3

dimentio holds nothing but contempt for count bleck (and was never a huge fan of nastasia for being loyal to bleck while knowing he was lying), but dimentio always saw mimi as something like a sister (actually, all of them view mimi this way). o'chunks is his top favorite, though. he's extremely paranoid and struggles to trust most people, but o'chunks manages to put him somewhat at ease... maybe it's because o'chunks is the bluntly honest type, and a little bit of a himbo (/affectionate), thus relatively easy to get a read on.

dimēn was absolute besties with mimi, and probably would've liked peach as well if they weren't on opposing sides. he liked nastasia the most out of everyone in his system too, since he always found her interesting to chat with. he'd probably like luigi more than mr. L, but in the way where he sees luigi as more of a sad wet cat than anything else (and that's mostly because luigi is understandably scared of what he thinks is just dimento). love didn't hate count bleck at all, but he definitely didn't feel very bad betraying him.

dante likes mr. L the most because he always has the biggest responses to dante's pranks and teasing out of anyone else in the team. they think mr. L makes a lot of neat gizmos too. he likes mimi and o'chunks a lot, though they've mostly gotten used to his shenanigans, and aren't as fun to tease without the big reactions they used to have. he doesn't hate anyone as much as dimentio hates the count, but dante finds both nastasia and count bleck to be unbearably boring.

donelo didn't form until after the whole ordeal with super dimentio, so it never got to personally meet anyone from team bleck or the heros (well, unless i write something about that in the future). but hypothetically... count bleck wouldn't necessarily be considered a friend by any means, but i think she would've appreciated being able to have moments of companionable silence with him. masking isn't as draining when xey don't have to say anything. speaking of, if it weren't for donelo having to mask all the time, donelo definitely could've had some interesting conversations about identity confusion with mimi, considering her whole deal.

demyan fronted so rarely that they weren't able to get to know anyone all that well, but i think o'chunks would've made for a really good friend and a stable form of outer-sys support for them. i think it might've been a little envious, maybe even admire count bleck to some degree for being able to remain so composed despite carrying his own grief and guilt with him.

Taking a break from drawing again, gonna make something else until I get my normal motivation back, so I'm gonna make the Bad End Generals from Smile Precure as Madoka Magica witches 😋
