Happy 20th Anniversary Supernatural!!
I should write something poignant about the show that shaped my entire personality, or about how much Supernatural means to me, or how much I adore those 15 seasons and crave for just a snifter more... But instead have this fanart that I made specifically for today!
Favorite Shots Per Episode ✩ 1.01 Pilot (2/2)
So are we not going to talk about the fact that throughout the series, Sam started wearing regular shirts and jackets, but in the final scene of the series, Dean’s heaven has Sam dressing like he did when Dean first pulled him back into hunting and Dean is dressed almost identical to the 1st season???!!!!!
WHY ARE WE NOT TALKING ABOUT THIS?!!!!
Tan jacket + hoodie
Regular jackets + a lot of plaid

350 words, The Pilot, trans woman!Sam, trans woman!Dean

Sam thought she knew how Dean would react if he ever saw her again. Obviously he'd be surprised. Then there would be some wisecrack about how Dean always said Sam was a girl, but he didn’t mean it like that. Dean would probably assume it was a sex thing. He thought everything was about sex. He would ask if Sam was going to “cut off her dick” and if her boobs were real (and when the answer was yes, there would be way too many follow up questions). Sam wasn’t sure if he’d start an argument right away, but it had to happen eventually. Dean couldn't handle when people did things their own way, and transitioning definitely wasn't his plan for Sam.
But every time Sam laid awake at night, figuring exactly how her brother would respond to having a sister, she never predicted what actually happened.
He was confused when he first saw her. She expected that. Granted, so was she. When she pictured their reunion, it never involved Dean breaking into her house and wrestling her to the floor.
Still, she flipped him over easily enough. Thank God, Jess walked in and distracted him before he could ask too many questions. Sam didn't want to explain the intricacies of gender dysphoria at one in the morning, when her real concern was why Dean was there at all.
To his credit, Dean stuck to the details of the situation after that. He even kept the staring to a minimum. He didn't ask a single question until after Sam agreed to help find Dad.
But fuck, what a question it was.
They were seated in the Impala, Dean driving and Sam riding shotgun. It almost felt normal, except for the deafening silence. For the first time in his life, Dean didn't turn on the music.
Then Dean opened his mouth.
“Look, Sammy, I know every guy wants to be a girl, but seriously. What’s the deal with all this?”
Sam expected a lot of different questions, but for the love of all that was good and holy, she didn’t expect that.

(Yes, I did say that I was done writing Supernatural fic for a while. Let's be honest, that was just asking for me to prove myself wrong. This has been sitting in my drafts for ages because I didn't feel like writing any more of it, and I finally realized that I didn't actually have to.)

Supernatural Pilot 01x01 // What Is and What Should Never Be 02x20
My observations of the opening scene of the SPN 01x01 Pilot script.
Firstly, John was originally Jack Winchester. Which is a name, unlike John, Sam and Mary, that is not found in the Bible. We highlight his anguish and terror at losing Mary. Meanwhile, that fact that Mary’s eyes were open but glassy says she knew what was going to happen to Sam because of her deal, but felt hopeless in preventing it.
This is completely cut from the show. I think the fact that there is an active threat would have put John less on the revenge quest and more on the protect quest. Also the description of the blackness in the wall reminds me of this…
The Season 15 title card. Clearly paralleling the empty. AKA Castiel’s confession and choice that led to his death, similar to Mary’s.
Instead of giving the baby to the 4 year old and telling him to take care of him, as in the show, John seems far more paternal here. He takes both boys in his arms and tries to protect Dean from further trauma by not having him look at the sight of his dead mother. The mother who just told him minutes ago that “Angels are watching over you”. Also little Dean crying just breaks my heart 😭
Here John is “holding, comforting” both boys.
While in the show he only appears to hold and comfort Sam, leaving little Dean in his PJs to the side. The fire of not just Fury but Pain is highlighted. That was the driver of Mary’s actions when she made her deal and it will continue to haunt this family for the rest of the show.
The fact that Castiel’s deal was not driven by fury or pain but rather love is the book end to this opening. The fact that Dean’s response to Cas’ death is to put aside fury for mercy is the breaking of his father’s cycle.
