do you think he knew that chuck was going to send him to hell ? do you think he knew chuck was lying ?
do you think he was beginning to lose himself , flickering painfully in and out of reality , watching his mother torn up with grief that her only child will forever be eighteen years old , all his dreams and plans simply thrown in the shredder ?
and then a light came to him , a beautiful Light , and spoke to him . told him , do not be afraid , that he could call him " chuck " — and for the first time in so long , he knew someone that seemed truly kind ?
if you only come with me for a moment , the beautiful Light said , and speak to your good friends , i will give you the peace you deserve . and do you think he let himself hope ? hope he would no longer be in that hazy space just on the edge of reality , watching the world go by and never being more than a whisper . . .
and so he goes with the beautiful Light , who is calling himself " chuck " , and they become friends . they talk . and he is taken to see his friends , his friends who led him into death , and he tells them that they can trust the beautiful Light . and do you think that he hopes his friends will get to have the same peace he has been promised ?
and he is finally given that peace . his soul melts into goodness and light and he is so , so happy —
but the warmth becomes heat , unbearable . and the sharpness and the darkness and the void and the pain begin to file in . and is that all he can feel ? unbearable , unceasing pain ?
and do you think that in his heart he cries , and he wonders amidst the torment of Hell — what did i do to deserve this ?
do you think he wondered if it was pointless to hope or trust at all ?
