Imagine the Duffers writing "He feels stupid" and then proving Will right in the show, that he was indeed stupid for thinking he could flirt with Mike... There's no way they would be this cruel.

What the script actually told us here is that part of Will's arc is about accepting his feelings for Mike, not getting over them. It would make no sense for this storyline to end in rejection since Will was already feeling bad for having these feelings in the first place. The empowering story here would be for Will to fully accept himself and his love for Mike and that even though he's different, he absolutely deserves a romantic relationship, to love someone and be loved in return.

yall will never ever ever convince me el's arc is meant to end with her in a relationship she got in at 12 years old after being raised in a lab and manipulated and abused all her life rather than her arc being about independence and finding herself outside of her relationship with men who want to control her

"screw it" they were both about to do something they didn't want btw, they're so gay, Jopper and Jancy didn't hesitate to kiss each other because they're actually in love with each other, Mike doesn't love El romantically

HE'S SO GAY 😭, Mike forced himself to do something he didn't actually wanna do because people forced this idea in his mind that he liked El just because he was nice to her, he's victim of heteronormativity and forced conformity

he didn't hesitate to hold Will's hand and to squeeze it

plus in the Jopper first kiss script it says "finally" instead of whatever this was because they actually wanted to kiss each other, Mike didn't actually want to kiss El

i do find it interesting that it is especially made prominent in the script that kids are playing baseball while lucas is accusing mike of having a crush on el. this is even established with the transition from jonathan noticing nancy being “lost” and “out of place” sitting at lunch with steve, to a bat colliding with a baseball, by the way.

My opinion has shifted tbh. If Mike's not gay then he clocked Will & is just homophobic bc like the "it's not my fault you don't like girls" + the airport half-hug reserved for just Will + the script having Mike's line be "We're friends, Will, Friends" in the rink-o-mania fight all combined its all just.... woof ya kno?
